Either way. He is still earning less wages than he was but he accepted it as he equally loves the club.

So even if he was on say 35k and was offered a new one year one at 15k he could have still said no and gone elsewhere for more.

But he equally accepted that's all the club wanted to offer him and still signed, wether to coincide with FFP at the time, but I still think if that was not the issue he would still take a pay cut/reduction to stay anyway.

So either way he has taken a reduction in wages for a combination of reasons.

The only team in for him were Forrest - who offered him low wages. No one else was in for him at that time. Of course he would stay, he's a cult hero here and he does have a connection with the fans and the club - hes a cult hero now. But ultimately his time is up here.

Especially in the full back position - Guilbert and a new left back is going to be pivotal in the way we're going to play next season. Hutton isn't able to play at that intensity.

    You answer your own question.

It would be looked at hypothetically if you like. Rather than offer new one on same terms he was offered new one with less wages.

Whatever way you dress it up it's still a pay cut in essence.

Him taking a pay-cut on a current contract and him accepting a new one year contract on less wages are completely different things.

In the first instance you make it sound like he went to villa and asked for reduces wages to help the club - he didn't

The club offered him a new one year deal to reflect what they think he should be earning.

    It's equivlent to this;

Pay Cut = Your boss comes to and says, AVFCRigo82, I'm sorry I know you're earning 30k a year contract but could you please a reduction to your salary to 28k a year. Is that OK?

Accepting reduced wages = Your boss tells you: "AVFCRigo82, I know your contract is finishing in a few months, you've been on 30K a year for this contract, but I'm going to offer you a new one year contract on 28k. It's up to you if you want to accept it."

I agree he is no longer a 90 minute player but he gives his everything for this club.

If you gave Aldo a 15k contract extension tomorrow as a backup player he would snap your hands off.

    I hope he doesn't leave.

    Why?

Guilbert is coming in and he's going to be a brilliant player for us. Mark my words.

The other spot can be given to Bree, and we may even have Elmo still with us next season if he isn't moved on. No point keeping Hutton to be battling for 3/4th place, rather his 15/20k go towards another player. Maybe it's time Hutton to drop down a level.

Problem is they are both Left Footed.

Not ideal for a CB pairing.

Mings can actually play with both. His right peg is actually decent.

It's a weird comparison though. Are you talking pure ability or relative to the division we're in? Are we talking an average or peak ability?

Probably ability. Baring in mind Hutton has played for us in the Premiership and in the Championship, while the others were all in the Prem.

Bertrand was left back and he is better than Cuellar and Reo Coker

Luke Young also few places too high and Habib Beye sadly missing 😉

    Haha shit you're right.

To be fair to Luke Young, he was absolutely solid. Even played most of the season at left back and was still great.

  7. Just had a bit of an idea - if you had to list all the right backs we've had in the last 20 years, where would Hutton rank on your list?

For me he'd actually be near the bottom.

    1. Mark Delaney
    2. Luke Young
    3. Kyle Walker
    4. Matt Lowton
    5. Olof Mellberg
    6.Ryan Bertrand
    7. Carlos Cuellar
    8. NRC
    9. Alan Hutton
    10. De La Cruz
    11. Didier Agathe

We deperately need replacement for Whelan and Jedinak as well as better wingers. We also need a cover for Jack.

All of these areas should of had a much higher priority than the gk situation, as i'v said before Steer is more than capable at this level and it's millions wasted already. Nyland and Kalinic both looks bang average.

No - the defence was a priority. Whelan is still capable in the deeper midfield role and we also have Thor who could play there, Lansbury too, albeit he injured himself.

Not sure why you're glossing over the fact that January is not a month you can do 'great' business in. The fact we signed Croatia's no 1 goalie who played extremely well for the World Cup Finalists, recalled Elphick, signed Premier League defender in Tyrone Mings and Hause on loan shows Smith and his team above did extremely decent business in the transfer market.

New wingers? We had El Ghazi, Adomah, Bolasie and Kodjia as wingers. Sent Bolasie back and recalled Green. Again good decision for us.

Cover for Jack? as much as you can try, you'll never be able to get a replacement for what Jack brings to this team.

All these area's you speak of will all be changed in a few months when you get a proper opportunity to sign/let go of players. Not in January.

  9. 1 hour ago, villalad21 said:

He had a chance to start that in January.

Unfortunately he decided to waste millions on a bang average goalkeeper when we desperately needed strengthening elsewhere.

Like where? The defence? Oh you mean where he got Mings and Hause - two players who are earning rave reviews right now, and recalled Elphick after the previous buffoon in charge sent him on loan?

We were something like 19th in the form table over the last 20 games. I think that's justification to question the managers ability.

Let's see where we are at the end of the season.

Wtf? That is bollocks. Just checked, over the last twenty games we were ranked 9th in the form guide.

It's perfectly true, i really couldn't give a shit. He is massively, massively overrated and not even fit enough to start half the games we play.

But since you have asked i i have a spare 5 minutes if you include this season we still have more points per game and a better win percentage when he isn't involved at all compared to when he starts.

    Started 60 W24 D19 L17  PPG 1.51 (40% win rate)

Played full match or came on as sub 79 W30 D24 L25 PPG 1.44 (38% win rate)

    Not played at all 47 W20 D16 L11 PPG 1.61 (42.5% win rate)

Still the same, The more he plays the lower our win % and points per game

Well what the **** have you got to say now?

    HAHA. Overrated? He's bloody underrated.

They play in the prem mate... We play in the championship.

Fulham's squad isn't good enough at that level, that's the reality. We should be inside top 6 with the squad we have. Blues are 5 points above us and their squad is horrific.

When Jovanovic joined Fulham, just avoided relegation by 11 points. They finished 20th. That was two seasons ago. When you give a decent manager time and a decent budget they will get better.

15m for JM, wobble you head..

all depends on what areas BR thought celtic needed bolstering ,he fancied JM to add to their midfield, it makes no difference ,if another prem club wants him..my view is villa can not provide the same platform at this moment as lesser clubs in the top flight, with payments dropping & ffp gripping, ..

Lol thank God you're not in charge of player sales. It's all in hand.

Leicester can offer a better grade of football, more money, better pool of players to learn off & a top coach..

silly me thinking JM will say no to the above.

villa have & will sell their better players when to whoever.

the list is endless. barry, milner, downing, young, just plucking a few..the modern day footballer will go,-fact, & villa need the ££ to plug the ffp -fact.

So in your head you've just added 2+2 and got 5.

Just because Rodgers wanted McGinn to play for Celtic doesn't mean his requirements are exactly the same for Leicester. Different clubs, different leagues, different motives. Anyway, Leicester will have to pay way over the odds for him. I'm talking 15m or more.

  15. The best player in the Championship returning back from a long injury is always going to make news. Not only that, it changes other team's tactics when playing us.

Not only that, it means our other midfield players will have move time on the ball

Not only that, it increases our set-play chances of scoring because of how many free kicks he wins in dangerous areas

Not only that, he provides an extra goal threat because of his ability to find players in the final third.

Not only that, he alleviates pressure from our defence because of his ability to hold onto the ball.

    Overrated? GTFOH.

I’ve read a lot on this thread and often find myself swearing I’m not going to look at it again but have some kind of weird need to inflict further angst on myself. The problem I have is dealing with comments about Smith from supporters that want immediate success and when this fails to materialise it must all be Smith fault because of his tactics, decisions etc.

I 100% get the frustration that were not doing what we thought we would be doing and challenging the top 6 but life is not that straight forward.

You look at the teams Smith has previously had and the way they play and the personnel he has had to play that way which has brought him success. Then  you look at the players he’s inherited and how they tried to play, initially with success, but cannot keep up with his demand because they are not his type of player.

If we want success there is a much better chance by giving Smith time to get his playing staff sorted in the summer, with a full preseason of players that sign for him because they want to play for him. Rather than players inherited who aren’t capable or don’t want to. Only at this point will we know whether Smith is capable of taking us to where we all aspire.

In my head to get rid of him before he has had this opportunity would be madness and driven by the insatiable desire of some to change because we haven’t has immediate success. Life isn’t like this and people need to be given a proper change to succeed.

Dean Smith is my man 100% .

    Absolutely 100% bang on.

Zidane left madrid, They have had 2 useless managers this season that ronaldo didn't even play under. He is far from the only reason for their current state

Barca find a different way to play and win/draw 77% of the games he does not play in (this is no worse than their record with him in the team) I wouldn't call that struggling

    Seeing as you like stats,

Please find out how we got on with and without Grealish please.

Why has DS not done this with a few already?

If he is wanting to introduce his style of playing surely it would be in his interests to be having certain youngsters in his training sessions getting them used to what he is trying to do in the future?

Because we don't want to destroy them before we need them.

Imagine our youngsters come on now while we are playing shit - it's sink or swim time. Bring them on to experience this toxic atmosphere we've had in games in the last few weeks? That could potentially ruin their careers and potential.

Best thing to do is send them out on loan, gain that experience of playing in a team where the expectations aren't so high and they can experience 'real' football. Bring them back at the end of the season and review if they'll be able to play the 'Smith' way and introduce them to Smith's pre-season and training.

There's a reason why we aren't paid to do this and our owners have put people in place to put these strategies in place.

Ronaldo has been sold, nothing they can do about that, he is no longer their player. If they relied on him that much they shouldn't have sold him. You can't compare an injured/suspended player to one that is no longer there, Especially when they won or drew 82% of the games he missed last year.

Messi has missed 13 games in 2 years, they won 8 drew 2 lost 3. Do you think anyone cares that their threat up front "was quite bad" ?

You don't get points for playing nicer football, The result is all that matters

The point I was making was Grealish to us is as pivitol to any star in any team is.

Without Ronaldo's influence at Real they have fallen hard. Yes he's not there anymore but the principle is still the same.

Without Messi, Barca are forced to play a different way and they struggle at times.

Taking Grealish out of our team means the opposition can change their game play dramatically and changes their tactics against us big time. Having Grealish on the pitch alone means more time on the ball for our midfielders and helps our wingers.
