  1. One thing that is confusing me is - he has never chased the ball down in his career - why is it pissing people off now? He's just not that type of striker. He has never been that type of work-horse striker.

    He has that 'X-Factor' about him where he can create a goal all by himself, something that Davis has shown tiny glimpses of but Tammy doesn't show enough of either.

    Norwich is a small nobody club.

    Yeah i know we are on their level at the moment but i will never be content or "happy" to compete with them. I'mg lad to see progression in the team, but i would be happy to compete with bigger teams like Everton, not Norwich.

     Aston Villa should always be a top 8 club in The Premier League and we just have to cross our fingers we can get to that level some day.

    We're not entitled to anything. You earn the right to play in the Premier League - not rely on previous historical achievements. You get there through winning the league or winning the play off. Simple as.

    We went from;

    Nearly facing up a winding up order to being saved;

    Just about keeping our most prized asset,

    Enduring underwhelming results from a 'tried and tested' manager who lost all endeavour and got found out;

    and we've now gone to;

    To looking to the future by getting in a Villa man who has brought us all a sense of togetherness;

    Breaking records whilst setting a new records that we will probably never be broken;

    To giving us a chance back into the big time while building a sustainable model, and giving us back our sense of identity and pride.

    We're doing just fine.

    Why? We are where we are. Norwich are the champions of the league we are in. At the moment, there are only two possibilities:

    (a) We can compete with Norwich

    OR

    (b) We CAN'T compete with Norwich.

    I know which I prefer.

  4. Roy Keane, Patrick Viera, John Terry, Steven Gerrard, Ramos, Puyol, etc were all different types of captains - but all consistently were talking in ref's ear during the game. Call it trying to gain a tactical advantage or just trying to sway the ref - it's what captains do.

    I don't think Dean Smith and the coaching team have a problem with it, and to be honest, Jack hasn't even been in trouble for it. He's not one to lose his temper and do something - he might display his temper, but doesn't act on it.

    He’s losing his temper. There’s no profound thought behind it. He’s not mapping out out how he he wants the opposition to react, no tactics. Just losing his rag. I think some people have some claret tinted specs on when it comes to Jack. You are right though, having Terry there will be huge for him if we go up this year and he stays, I think he’ll be an even bigger influence on him over a longer period of time. As I said before, I wasn’t having a pop at him, and that with the right mentoring he will know when and where is the right time to pipe up and when not.

    Can only be a good thing though mate.

    For too long we've been a team of, excuse my french, pussies.

    For you to see how a captain should behave - look at the Blues game. Even Blues fans were saying fair play to Jack Grealish, who is their no.1 public enemy.

    I never brought it up because of the incident in the last game, it’s something I’ve seen in him the last couple of seasons, which I wasn’t too concerned about until he became captain. It’s probably best to agree to disagree on this. I just personally feel the captain should hold himself to higher standards than his team mates and be the one who can keep a clear head.

    I've got to agree with DDID. He's learning from the one of the best captains, John Terry. He's learning how to use his influence as captain to dictate how the match should be officiated, and protect himself. I don't see any other captain doing anything different to be fair.

    Jack's instrumental to this team both physically and mentally.

    I have heard is a video from another angle and its him grabbing the shirt. Klich would have went down if he was punched or at least felt something

    He's defo grabbing his shirt. Watch Klich's collar. No punch at all.

    You could say the same about the team as a whole though. Before the 10 wins in a row we had 10 wins in 34. Things are definitely improving lately and he has played a considerable part in that. Young lad, foreign country, different language, 2 different managers and the entire defence behind him has changed since xmas. Hardly his fault that some of this may have made it more difficult to settle

    Regards to the language bit, he speaks brilliant English 😂

    The one thing they are right about it's that he complains to the ref a lot. But I think this had become more noticeable since his prolonged absence through injury. The guy wants to play football and wants to be there to help his club and he knows that these personal assaults on him could result in injury which would prevent him doing just that

    Why should he be forced into the physio table just because some fat trog who can't handle his ability plows through him, seemingly with the blessing of the incompetent official.

    Yes he whines and asks the ref how many times this is gonna happen. And I don't bloody blame him. If the lad had some protection he wouldn't be doing it

    it's not just him - it's all our players. When they feel Jack isn't getting the protection he deserves, Whelan, Conor, McGinn, and Elmo tell every official that they're not doing their job; allowing 'free hits' on Jack as a marker.

    I'd say the only resemblance between him and Ronaldo is his hair cut and his poise, when he's standing over the ball :lol:

    For me, he's a winger, more in the mould of Joaquin, where he's not incredibly fast, but he has quick feet and a trick or two he likes to rely on.  He cuts inside more than Joaquin used to, but that's because it's a modern thing and Joaquin was played on the right, and was right footed. Nedved was a good shout actually.

    He's got a nice cross on him at the moment, and his in-swinging crosses are like Ashley Youngs used to be back in the day.  They have a curl and pace on them, rather than a more floaty cross like Adomah's, these are more effective if you can beat the first man, and don't have the tallest strikers.

    What he's doing really well at the moment is choosing the right thing to do.  I like the way he pauses to allow Taylor to create space for him to either pass to him, or use Taylors run past him  to come inside.  If you're against a full back who has a lazy winger in front of him, it's always 2 v 1 and you'll rain crosses in all day long.

    I like the way he's not overly concerned about picking a corner when shooting, but uses the "Ronaldo" shooting technique of "balling" the ball straight, causing drift which with the newer balls makes the ball move, meaning the keepers can rarely catch, but they have to palm the ball away - again, meaning we have the ball bouncing around their box (we've scored a few goals following up at the back post lately).   He goes for hitting the target rather than missing the target, useful for powerful shots outside the box.

    We really need him to keep this form up, which is obviously the risk you get with wingers - here's hoping his hot streak continues (maybe broken up with a rest) which will mean he can really contribute towards us getting promoted! :)

    A bit weird considering with the ball, he is probably one of the fastest players dribbling with the ball at his feet.

    Look at when he outpaced the defender a few weeks back from the half way line. Gave him a 5/10 yard heads start and still went past him.

  11. He has that 'X-Factor'. Can do something out of nothing. It's not something you can teach.

    Another thing - Heard he played through the pain barrier for us on Monday - the rib injury he had he had to take pain killing injections a few days ago, but was fit enough to play. Hope we see more of King Kodj.

    He'll probably bang in the goal that takes us up!

  12. 43 minutes ago, Junxs said:

    Kodjia is without doubt the most skillful player at club, that run in the 2nd half past 3 players was sublime. I'm just delighted we seem to have the best version of him back.

    It also saddens me when our own fans don't appreciate him, seen it mentioned by a few people they'd rather have Davis starting - well that would have been 0-0 yesterday then.

    This - 100%.

    His footwork and ability to make a mockery out of defenders is brilliant. Only player who gets close is probably El-Ghazi, then maybe Jack.

    That series on the YouTube page are very funny now McGinn has found his stride. Very entertaining chap.

    Small insight into other bits and bobs as well. He's made quite a few references to refs doing us in, which he's correct with. Also called Jack The Messiah and made fun of Tammy when he hadn't played him in for a chance.

    This. I spotted those sly digs when I watched the video as well. He's just brilliant.

    Sadly just don't rate Green. He doesn't seem capable at this standard for a team trying to get promoted. For me, his final ball is usually what let's him down (but he did great for McGinn's goal the other day) and he doesn't seem to have the confidence or ability to take a man on. We always look weak down our right with Green starting and he doesn't have any cohesion or understanding with Elmo that I think Albert has. (FWIW, I also think Albert is massively limited).

    Got to disagree with what you've said there (in bold). When given time and space he does run at his man - please watch his run for the first goal last week - ran past 3/4 players with good/quick feet.

    In his post match presser Smith indicated 8/9 players called up for international duty. Wondering who they are.

    Taylor, Mcginn, kodjia, Kalinic and BB is all I can come up with.

    Just wondering who Smith will have available to work hi magic  with over the break

    Tammy, Conor,  Elmo?

    Since the return of Jack, this is some of, if not the best football I've seen us play in the last decade.

    I watched the Leeds vs Blades game, and on this run of form I'd happily back us to turn them over.

    THIS. Some of the football we have played is seriously some of the best I've seen us play.

    I never said he didn't play well, i said he weren't the best player on the pitch

    You disagreed with someone who said he had his best performance in a Villa shirt today. If that's the case, when was he better?

  19. 4 minutes ago, villalad21 said:

    Disagree.

    Didn't do any mistakes and won the ball on several occasions but didn't pose any attacking threat.

    Don't remember any crosses from him that led to chances. He played ok,  nothing more.

    Ridiculous. Won the ball countless times in Boro's half to push us going forward.

    Had a great game today, and linked up well with El-Ghazi. Well done Neil.
