  1. So this is whats changed since last year. Lets face it he has to provide significant funds as we have next to no top players at the moment.
  2. Because, as was said at the time, he'd got a gentlemen's agreement with Whelan that he'd stay at Wigan for one more year. I am starting to feel more confident about us landing Martinez tonight. He was my top choice before Ole came on the scene and I think he'd do a great job for us. I think he'd be foolish to stay at Wigan another season if there are offers to get out. Even a very good manager could find themselves relegated with that club. No such thing as a gentlemens agreement in football, i dont believe that. Especially when Martinez left Swansea high and dry when he left them. Not saying he was wrong to do this, only saying whats changed.
  3. What streets this? Reason why Martinez is coming away in the betting tonight is because he hasnt got the lpool job and bookies are running to cover themselves that he now has free run at villa job. I personally think he will stay at Wigan. Why would he not even talk to us last year and take the job this year?
  4. Is the reason why Grazton said we wouldnt hear anything to July is because he is a manager at the Euro's? For example a certain Joachim Loew
  5. Everton are clinging onto solvency by a hairs breath... Villa aren't in that situation. We have a wealthy owner who is simply trying to reduce the wage bill.... We are in the top 20 of biggest wage bills of ALL the sports clubs in the world aren't we? A list that includes the NFL, Barcelona, Man Utd et al. I think the wage bill is dramatically down now, though we won’t see the accounts for a while. RL is not stupid, he knows the team needs rebuilding so he may be willing to start this now and also keep control of the wages. I am sure he won’t want a repeat of the season gone past. This is were Moyes may come in... money to spend with emphasis placed on controlling wages.
  6. Lerner normally flys back to US Fridays & comes back to the UK Tuesdays... I wouldn't read too much into that. A VT poster who will remain nameless also heard some crack from BMH about Moyes coming before McLeish was officially sacked. However he didn't belive it... so didn't post it.... and I don't blame him after last year. None of us know for sure... and perhaps at this juncture neither do RL & PF, until matters are concluded. I really hope it is him - 10 quid on him at 300/1 and 10 on Jol at 1000/1. I know i bet on who i wanted it to be instead of who it probably wil be. Money is coming for Moyes now anyway.
  7. Everton were a hairs breath away from bankruptcy this time last year. Lerner wouldn't let that happen - he's just trying to make AVFC a bit more self sufficient and sustainable. I posted earlier that I still had a sneaky feeling on Moyes for Villa but as it's lock down at VP.... who knows? I've a funny feeling about Moyes as well, I posted similar comments this time last week. Reasons being He cant wait about at Everton for ever and who is to say he will even get the utd job. Everton 2 weeks ago stated they are trying to get him to sign a new contract which he hasn’t done. He might be starting to realize he has to move on. Contrary to what we all think Lerner may give him money. Lerner has more or less got rid of the high earners and a total rebuild from scratch will be needed. When he approached Moyes last year they may have agreeded to give it a year hence McLeish being the stop gap. Might interest Moyes now. AND McLeish was in the states at the weekend… is this a big coincidence? There would be no rumors about Randys plane then and little press to see them talking AND Moyes was in the sates not McLeish... dont want to give everyone heart failuer

  9. He was into 5/1 about an hour ago on betfair but thankfully on the drift again. Only takes one decent size bet to move him in to that. What is he now then ? - I don't see him listed at all ? 35/1 he is mixed up with the 1000/1's as he just jumped into the betting
  10. That would have to include Solskjær somehow since he's the only name we know. Some temporary appointment then Solskjær comes in january or next season? Or big Ron is on his way back with Dalian Atkinson as his number 2.
  11. He was into 5/1 about an hour ago on betfair but thankfully on the drift again. Only takes one decent size bet to move him in to that. Also i'd like Poyet too but he is on a long contract. 2million to buy it out so not sure RL will pay that to land him.

  13. I read this morning somewhere and i can't mind were that AVB was being linked to them. Thought it strange as they had 'ur Harry' here probably No wasn’t there but anyway i hope he doesn’t come either. He bankrupts nearly every club he is at. Think RL knows his stuff when it comes to finance so he won’t touch him with a barge pole.

  15. Anyone know anything about Harry Redknapp talking to villa? Second favourite in Betfair now. That would be a way of getting the wage bill up again.
  16. So is that your criteria for a manager? Somebody who is going to keep Villa up for the next 3 years. I'm going to assume you're not stupid enough to compare the abilities of Wigan to stay in the league with the abilities of Villa to stay in the league. Or to put it another way, Martinez has performed minor miracles at Wigan. If he can keep them up for 3 years with their resources, imagine what he could do at a club that is set up to be an ever-present Premier League side. So yes, someone who can keep WIGAN in the PL for 3 years is the kind of manager who should be looked at. Liverpool certainly seem to think so too and I'm going to hazard a guess that their ambition isn't only to stay in the Premier League for the next 3 years either. As I will no doubt have to repeat between now and us hiring a manager, Rafa has been a complete and utter disaster since he fell out with his number 2. You can pinpoint the downturn in his results to the point where he fell out with Pako Ayseteran. So there's no way I want that spent damaged POS near the club. I see you subscribe to the "let's wait until they're out of our reach before we go for them" school of management-hiring. If you can't see that Lambert is going to be the real deal at this point in time then there's not much I can say to help you. Let's agree to disagree and move on to something else. There is a difference between managing a team to keep them up and managing a team to push them on to the next level. If we have any ambition we should be hiring a proven manager who has done this in the past. I reiterate Martinez/Lambert might be able to do it but they haven’t done it yet. But I as you say we will have to just agree to disagree.
  17. So is that your criteria for a manager? Somebody who is going to keep Villa up for the next 3 years. We are/should be a top 5 club thats why i think we need a manager like Raffa who has managed at that level. Both Lambert and Martinez arent proven at that level. They might turn out to be able to manage at that level but why should Villa take the chance. We deserve somebody who is proven already.
  18. I agree, Raffa for me as well or my one man personal crusade of Martin Jol which will never happen. Martinez is flavor of the month. I wonder how many Villa fans would have wanted him in Feb.
  19. Its a holiday in the states today so nobody is working. He could be coming back a day early because of that.
  20. When you put it like this how does Villa need RL to bail them out 2 years in a row to a cost of 20 - 40 million each year? The squad is thread bare and we sold all the family Silverware which got money back in. Also we are 19th in the world club league table released last week. How are we loosing so much money ... cant be high wages as we only have 8 real first team players from above. gate receipts have plummeted. Its wags from the last few years I think you will find. Players have sucked all the money from the club and accomplished nothing...but like idiots we give them long term contracts just to secure the so called "top players" :x We need to change the whole way we do buissness why buy a shit so called proven premiership players like Hutton when you can have 3 talented hungry lower league players and pay them 10k a week. So we dont owe RL anything, he let this all happen. Def right about hutton and 3 lower league players. Conference league players wouldnt demand 10k a week but

  23. Should have moved for him last summer. Decent manager - can't see why he would move again though ! With the right money to spend and good youth setup he might. Depends on his ambitions i suppose. I would love to see him here. We would have a good home record again thats for sure.
  24. What does anyone think of Martin Jol? Plays very good football with Fulham and would return the flair to Villa. I know he doesnt fit into the age bracket but with the other names been thrown about i think we could do somewhat worse.
