Why is everyone going crazy thinking Lambert is automatically coming to villa. I still think villa will talk to Benitez and Poyet as well. Lambert might not even leave Norwich. I wouldnt be putting much money on lambert just yet.

Sky say this and Sky say that. They werent saying to much about the Villa manager over the past week when liverpool were looking for one. They are now trying to generate stories on Villas search as they have nothing to talk about regarding liverpool. 24hrs, why not 23hr 36min or 18 hrs 22mins. All made up. I wouldnt go putting to much money on Lambert just yet. Yes we might talk to him but Villa did say they were going to talk to a few and i am starting to believe them after they said they werent waiting on liverpools sloppy seconds which is now proving correct.

This! No real money to spend with us so at best keep us up. I would rather gamble with a young up and coming manager. If he gets it I hope he proves me wrong. No I dont like the fact that we would be his back up option but to be fair how many managers have we gone for and gone for a "back up" works both ways. Its why i always thought Moyes wasnt as bad a bet as everyone made out. RL is always going to have to provide a sh1t load of money to rebuild the team no matter who comes in. If he didnt he wouldnt be protecting his investiment

Because, as was said at the time, he'd got a gentlemen's agreement with Whelan that he'd stay at Wigan for one more year. I am starting to feel more confident about us landing Martinez tonight. He was my top choice before Ole came on the scene and I think he'd do a great job for us. I think he'd be foolish to stay at Wigan another season if there are offers to get out. Even a very good manager could find themselves relegated with that club. No such thing as a gentlemens agreement in football, i dont believe that. Especially when Martinez left Swansea high and dry when he left them. Not saying he was wrong to do this, only saying whats changed.

What streets this? Reason why Martinez is coming away in the betting tonight is because he hasnt got the lpool job and bookies are running to cover themselves that he now has free run at villa job. I personally think he will stay at Wigan. Why would he not even talk to us last year and take the job this year?

Everton are clinging onto solvency by a hairs breath... Villa aren't in that situation. We have a wealthy owner who is simply trying to reduce the wage bill.... We are in the top 20 of biggest wage bills of ALL the sports clubs in the world aren't we? A list that includes the NFL, Barcelona, Man Utd et al. I think the wage bill is dramatically down now, though we won’t see the accounts for a while. RL is not stupid, he knows the team needs rebuilding so he may be willing to start this now and also keep control of the wages. I am sure he won’t want a repeat of the season gone past. This is were Moyes may come in... money to spend with emphasis placed on controlling wages.

Lerner normally flys back to US Fridays & comes back to the UK Tuesdays... I wouldn't read too much into that. A VT poster who will remain nameless also heard some crack from BMH about Moyes coming before McLeish was officially sacked. However he didn't belive it... so didn't post it.... and I don't blame him after last year. None of us know for sure... and perhaps at this juncture neither do RL & PF, until matters are concluded. That would have to include Solskjær somehow since he's the only name we know. Some temporary appointment then Solskjær comes in january or next season? Or big Ron is on his way back with Dalian Atkinson as his number 2.

I read this morning somewhere and i can't mind were that AVB was being linked to them. Thought it strange as they had 'ur Harry' here probably No wasn’t there but anyway i hope he doesn’t come either. He bankrupts nearly every club he is at. Think RL knows his stuff when it comes to finance so he won’t touch him with a barge pole.

So is that your criteria for a manager? Somebody who is going to keep Villa up for the next 3 years. I'm going to assume you're not stupid enough to compare the abilities of Wigan to stay in the league with the abilities of Villa to stay in the league. Or to put it another way, Martinez has performed minor miracles at Wigan. If he can keep them up for 3 years with their resources, imagine what he could do at a club that is set up to be an ever-present Premier League side. So yes, someone who can keep WIGAN in the PL for 3 years is the kind of manager who should be looked at. Liverpool certainly seem to think so too and I'm going to hazard a guess that their ambition isn't only to stay in the Premier League for the next 3 years either. As I will no doubt have to repeat between now and us hiring a manager, Rafa has been a complete and utter disaster since he fell out with his number 2. You can pinpoint the downturn in his results to the point where he fell out with Pako Ayseteran. So there's no way I want that spent damaged POS near the club. I see you subscribe to the "let's wait until they're out of our reach before we go for them" school of management-hiring. If you can't see that Lambert is going to be the real deal at this point in time then there's not much I can say to help you. Let's agree to disagree and move on to something else. There is a difference between managing a team to keep them up and managing a team to push them on to the next level. If we have any ambition we should be hiring a proven manager who has done this in the past. I reiterate Martinez/Lambert might be able to do it but they haven’t done it yet. But I as you say we will have to just agree to disagree.

We are/should be a top 5 club thats why i think we need a manager like Raffa who has managed at that level. Both Lambert and Martinez arent proven at that level. They might turn out to be able to manage at that level but why should Villa take the chance. We deserve somebody who is proven already.

I agree, Raffa for me as well or my one man personal crusade of Martin Jol which will never happen. Martinez is flavor of the month. I wonder how many Villa fans would have wanted him in Feb.
