  1. Im sure people thought the same with reading last year, i didnt say they would get it i said imagine if they did. No need to shit yourselves ladies.

This time last year Reading were 8th, 2 points off the play offs. I can see the similarities.

Thread purpose: Laughing at smelly tramps

Your post: Talking about them getting promoted and us getting relegated.

Imagine if Peter Pannu came round your house and pulled your pants down and you fell in dog doo.

  2. I remember James Richarson being quite good on channel 4 but I've never bought the Guardian, my U-11 team used zonal marking, I like it when AVB wins but I'd never call him AVB out loud and I obviously despise football pundits and the Sunday Supplement dregs.

On the other hand I enjoy the PL, like Messi more than Busquets, despair when people tell me Carrick's organisational and anticipation skills and reasonable passing make him some kind of single handed title winner and I'll never defend Zlatan's bullshit, I just enjoy it.

  3. No trust neccessary really, I don't think it takes Emmanuel Steward to deduce that Kimbo would get flattened by anyone even remotely resemblant of good.

Actual success in MMA was never attainable because of a lack of skill, but it was a good idea because $$. He clearly has the work ethic and potential to have had reasonable success in either sport had he trained consistently from his early teens.

It's a shame he never grew up / trained with his cousin Rhadi really, they could both have made an impact.

  4. I still dont really get the whole Kimbo Slice phenomenon.  I saw all his street fight videos years ago and they were nothing more than a guy who happens to have a very hard punch knocking out bums. The fight against the guy with dreadlocks was the best example, he was fixing his hair when Kimbo nailed him.

I think Kimbo is easy to understand. A 240lb super swole black guy with a big beard, bald top of head, cool name, cool voice, turns up to bareknuckle fights in a hummer, was one of the first to have his fights go viral on youtube. He was even "Street Certified"  :)

He's like the perfect internet sensation. I can't think of a single thing (other than legitimate fighting skill) that would have made him better received.

I think he made the right move going into MMA first as well tbh, he just happened to time it well enough that some people with more money than sense needed a 'name' to launch their organisation with. He made way more money as the face of Elite XC fighting cherry picked opponents than he would have in boxing.

  5. "We go again"

Please stop saying this bollocks, Lambert

If I never hear that phrase again it'll be to often.

In a similar vein, the phrase "It's all about...". Some people seem to think every single thing is "all about" something which it usually isn't even partially about. Half wits.

  6. Nice find Dr! I've never seen the full fight before, I didn't think the footage existed tbh. I've seen/heard/read more interviews with Pele Reid about that fight than I've seen fights of his.

That is some premium material for winding up the Klitschko evangelicals. Hopefully Fury gets his grubby hands on it!

  7. 9 days ago I thought by now we'd have offloaded at least one piece of deadwood and brought in at least one combative, defensive player to make us less resemblant of a door mat every time we take to the pitch. No such luck. I know there's 3 weeks left of the window but I am worried at the seeming lack of urgency to resolve the issues.

On another note, I'd rather we put the winner of the zorb race at right back than Hutton.

  8. Those are really an untapped market for the American promoters. Only Bellator have really dipped their toe there.

And they are all pantshittingly exciting. Shame that massive one (Gunganishvilli?) lost his M1 title really.

  9. Gotcha. No worries.

Who do you hold high in the MMA game in either grappling derivative?

The guys who've done well in the ADCC and actually are moving / have moved to MMA are pretty much the cream of the crop as far as sub grappling goes. Roger, Braulio, Lister, Maia and Palhares come to mind. Chris Weidman also impressed despite only being a purple belt when he competed and Matt Serra is coaching him. Edit - Almost forgot Vinny and Werdum, both killers and had the best match of the 2011 event.

There are more great freestyle wrestlers than you can shake a stick at, and there are good judokas (Ronda, Lombard and obviously Ishii) and hopefully Khabilov is the crest of a wave of Sambo competitors wrecking everything they can lay their hands on.

  10. You dont think he's one of the best grapplers competing in MMA? I'm not saying one of the best fighters btw.

I don't know if it's intentional or coming off poorly in print, but the tone in you posts above is a bit uncalled for.

Yeah, sorry about the tone, I've been reading the main forum a bit too much. ;) The antique Boxing vs MMA argument didn't help either. :)

As far as Aoki is concerned, he's a very good grappler but to suggest he's even in the discussion for being "the" best is not realistic IMO. He's nowhere close, probably not even top 20 AFAIC.

Edit - Submission grappling he's maybe top 30, if we're talking about grappling in general he's not top 50 IMO.

  11. You're right, they can't be compared, and the experiments they've had have been hilarious. I couldn't believe it when an extremely overweight and over-the-hill James Toney faced off against Randy Couture. It was never going to end well for old 'Lights Out'.

That wasn't an experiment, it was a sideshow. Toney needed money, DFW needed ammo for his squabbling with that crusty old prick Arum and an agreement that suited both parties was agreed.

I'd be too embarrassed to be involved in such a discussion in 2012 to comment on the rest of your post.

Shinya Aoki, regarded as one of the best, if not "the" best submission grappler in MMA

By who? Certainly not anyone with the faintest idea what they were talking about.

Edit - It was hilarious to see him get splayed out though.
