fan power is as overrated as anything. the only real way that fans could make a stand is by boycotting games and having an empty villa park but that wont happen and even that isnt guaranteed to work

It just annoys me to think that Lerner has paid out for Ireland, Houllier's compensation, MON compo for unfair dismissal, compensation to the inbreds for McLeish then 12 months later more compo to sack McLeish then more compo to Norwich for Lambert.

 

Blimey we could have bought a few players for that.

 

All these players on high wages were signed with Lerners blessing. It's just like Levy cannot moan about AVB's signings IMO as he approved them.

 

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, it has been really frustrating being a Villa supporter over the last few years. But I am just "hoping" we start spending more next summer to give ourselves a real chance at success again. All we can do is hope.

Look at the flak McL was taking when we were ninth at a similar point in his season.

_{This forum is annoying sometimes.  Lets be honest.  The truth is somewhere between what HH is saying and what the most negative fans on here are saying (pick a member, there is plenty).   HH is obviously biased but makes some valid points.  The neg brigade are obviously biased because they want to be proved right but again they make some good points.  What we don't need though is fans calling for his head when we are **** 11th!  That's right **** 11th!  Yes the football has been shit, yes some of the signings have not performed so far and yes PL has had a shocker with tactics.  However, it is also true that he has had to build a whole bloody club from top to bottom on a Lidl budget.  You try feeding a family of 6 on a £20 pw budget and see how their health detoriates.  PL is doing a decent job, not great and certainly not shit.  Fans need to wake up and get behind the team.  I work with footballers on a regular basis and I know that the atmosphere in a ground has a massive effect on them.  Right now VP is a terrible place to call home.  I don't blame the fans really considering what we have watched these last few years.  However, we need to do what we did in the second half of last season and get behind them.  Yes performances have been poor but results haven't.  If we continue moaning the first time a pass has been misplaced then we might as well pack up now and wait till next season when we open the season against Yeovil.}

I'm not saying it is. I'm saying u don't NEED to buy into anything. Less face it, u either do or u don't. If u do, u will accept small progress this season in the anticipation and hope of it is another stepping stone to better things. If you don't, well u pay your money u are entitled to feel the team should be doing so much better. It's all down to what u expect in the managers second season and with what little resources he has had!

If this is the case then perhaps it should be relayed to the fans so we all know where we going and what the plan is. Perhaps saying your present players aren't good enough is damaging to the team as it stands today, either way its a fine balancing act between keeping the fans happy, at home and the players happy on the pitch. 

 

The best way to convince fans is by winning.

I like Paul Lambert being the manager of Aston Villa Football Club. But I think Lambert needs to take responsibility for performances and results regardless of what is being spent at other football clubs.  I just hope this current bad form is just a minor blip in a successful season for us.

 

Prob less than half. Who has lambert signed for £13m and on 40k a week. That gets you a wanyama. Look at what they spend. Did u read the Cardiff chief exec and what they spent? Villa are a big club historically but in terms of current spending power it is bottom 3 or 4 all day long.

 

Is it likely we may be able to get more than 1 player in January though? We've been linked with a left back now, so that is a few links to different types of players (although we know that they are often bollocks).

 

As for the cleverer/more clever debate, that should probably be left to off-topic section but my view is the same as HH, it may be in the dictionary but cleverer is certainly not a clever word to use - especially in reference to a person's lack of intelligence. He was lucky to inherit some decent players.  None of the midfielders he has bought are even halfway decent.  Westwood, KEA and Sylla are all dreadful.  His fullbacks aren't much cleverer either.
