  1.

And therein lies the main reason why other posters are relunctant to put names forward.

Exactly. These are the responses :

    1. Someone really good, i.e. Guus - 'There's no way he'll come, you're in la la land'

    2. Someone unproven, i.e. someone doing good in the lower leages or someone from an OK foreign team - 'There's no way to know how he'll do in the Premier league'

    3. Someone availabe, i.e. Clarke, possibly Mackay - 'He's rubbish', well duh... that's why he'd be available to a penny pinching Villa in the first place.

It would be pointless to appoint somebody similar (or worse) to Lambert. I could not bear having to witness another rebuilding program and transitional period.

  2. A general question to those who think that Lerner will start backing the manager again when all the bigger earners are of the books.

    WHY?

As I see it he has pulled back the purse strings and is now entering the phase of running the club at as low a cost as possible so he can start to pay back the loans he made to the club until he gets to the stage where he can hope to sell the club without making a loss on it.

I was told 18 months ago by someone who would know that Lerner was looking to sell the club but it appears the numbers didnt stack up then.......I wonder why?

    Edit.

  3. It's hard to deny his heart lies elsewhere. Even the worst of the Premier League owners manages to watch their team sometimes.

That being the case, it gives weight to the rumour that he is looking to sell.

I have great doubts that he will mark his ten year anniversary with the club. The push towards sustainability gives him a better opportunity to sell the club to more potential bidders than normal.

Or maybe RL will have another crack at making us successful in the future. Who knows??? It is all very vague and confusing with Lerner.

  4. The only thing that makes me feel negative about Villa is Lerner (hell, the football isn't great, but when you have to buy a squad for 40m, what do you expect?).

Everything else I am excited and positive about, even if I do not rate some of our players I support them 100%.

Its the constant cost cutting and searching for a few quid under cushions like we are a small club that pisses me off.

I agree. It is disappointing because we are the biggest club in a huge city, and we are not matching our potential on the pitch I believe.

  5. For what its worth, hairyhands said if we get anybody it is likely to be a loan but even then only if we can get them in on low wages. I have very little faith that Randy is going to put any money in next month, especially if we are still mid table. Bit like Football Manager where you're on target to meet or exceed expectations but you ask for extra cash, "sorry mate but the team is doing fine just get on with it".

I think we will be waiting for one of the alienated players to leave before we sign a player; Alan Hutton and Shay Given are our most salable players in January. We will be waiting deep into window for a signing (if we do sign somebody in January). Frustrating, but I suspect Lambert being fully aware of these conditions.

Well you are entitled to an opinion.

It just annoys me to think that Lerner has paid out for Ireland, Houllier's compensation, MON compo for unfair dismissal, compensation to the inbreds for McLeish then 12 months later more compo to sack McLeish then more compo to Norwich for Lambert.

Blimey we could have bought a few players for that.

All these players on high wages were signed with Lerners blessing. It's just like Levy cannot moan about AVB's signings IMO as he approved them.

I agree with a lot of what you are saying, it has been really frustrating being a Villa supporter over the last few years. But I am just "hoping" we start spending more next summer to give ourselves a real chance at success again. All we can do is hope.

I think it will be more a case of picking ourselves up and going again

Same transfer policy with us just spending enough to stay in the division and gambling

    You would hope not.

  7. I think a poster mentioned about writing to Randy Lerner regarding his transfer policy in another thread. I am intrigued by the idea of writing a letter to Randy Lerner and challenging him constructively on his ownership and his vision for Aston Villa, it is far more positive than creating unfounded rumours and starting a hate campaign against RL. But I am fairly certain this has been done many times by other supporters, and I will probably not receive a reply for my efforts.

  8. I don't really see how relegation would solve anything.

I am not advocating relegation because it puts the club in serious danger and there are no guarantees that this could work out. But I think there will be less pressure and a better opportunity to build a winning team that plays attractive football in a lower division. Obviously it depends on competent people operating the club for it to succeed.

  9. It's been a problem long, long, long before Lambert took the job, so I'm definitely not blaming him for it. What needs to happen at Villa is the one thing that'll never be let happen by the fans - we need to completely reset everything from the kids up to play proper movement based football. it's a 5-10 year job though, so there's no chance there's anything close to the patience required for it to happen, because what you'll get in the early days is shit football, young players signed for small fees and... oh... wait

I agree. I know this sounds crazy but I actually think relegation would help the club in terms of creating a better style of football and a winning mentality.

  10. Does anybody really believe we will get the creative/attacking midfielder we are lacking in January? I hate being negative but I feel it is going to be similar to the last winter window. I hope Jack Grealish and Samir Carruthers are both recalled in case we are unable to sign a creative/attacking player.

100% agree and we should respect his right to keep his identity private instead of people making silly comments about who he might be.

I am sure HH does not care about us jokingly speculating on his/her identity. HH has clearly been upset by the unfair criticism Paul Lambert has received recently.

This is a discussion board.  He obviously has as much right to post here as everybody else, but if he's going to do that, he has to expect that he's not going to agree with everything that's said.  If people are expecting other posters not to disagree with a supposed ITKer in case they get upset and flounce off they're going to be disappointed.

I agree with your sentiments about forum discussion, but you have to admit posters may be going a bit overboard regarding Paul Lambert.
