  1. lets be honest the worst full back i can remember recently is de la cruz. i now who i would pick between de la cruz and hutton
  2. a win tonight and we go 8th it isnt too bad really. we are not going to catch the top 6 so a win tonight and hopefully on sunday could possibly leave us 3 points behind newcastle who seem to be struggling if our home record can pick up and start to match what we are like away then i see no reason why we cant realistically finish 7th or 8th. if mcliesh finishes top 8 then can build his own team which can defend we may still have a bright future
  3. would like given cuellar clark dunne warnock albrighton petrov ireland zogbia keane bent
  4. Here is a novel thought. If the fans actually attempt to support them team, instead of sitting in silence waiting for one of them to make a stray pass and then vent ultimate rage at the team - we may just do it. The only time this season I have heard the fans support the team was Arsenal, now I know we lost it, but how well we played that day. Just a thought. Mate the people who dont like the McLeish generally stay away, so what you are actually saying is those who are tolerant of him are causing a poisonous atmosphere at Villa Park? Nice on you. ..............................and as usual, everyones fault except McLeish who is supposed to set up, motivate and send out a team mentally, physically and tactically capable of winning the game. The whole post is silly, but that bit tickled me. EVERYTHING is McLeish's fault. If the half time pies weren't hot enough, he'd get the blame. And believe me, there are plenty of McLeish haters still going up VP. WTF! So it's **** Mcleish's fault that the pie's are cold, the guy's an utter bastard! We know he's out of his depth unless RL is happy with 9th at best although I personally doubt he can even manage that, now back to the pie's Mmmmm it was sarcasm  give him time before judging him just because he came from SHA dont mean hes useless
  5. theboyangel obviously failed maths a loss brings it down to 4 but i cant see us losing
  6. Our biggest rivals are in the Championship because they are shit and it is where they belong. Their current manager knows how to get teams promoted, but I disagree that they play "good football" they play "winning football" - I wouldn't confuse the two. As for your comment about the owner. Grow up you child - you weren't moaning with MON at the helm now were you? houghton has only ever got one team promoted and that was when newcastle kept basically the whole team that went down. those other at SHA have only been scoring goals for fun against poor teams, 6 at 9 man millwall and 4 at leeds who were poor. if you want somebody to blame for all this try MON for wasting randys money on crap like harewood shorey salifou heskey etc
  7. liverpool might not be one of the biggest clubs now but when the majority of top european players were born in the early 80s liverpool where a big club for them growing up and they will want to play for them. we dont have the money to compete with these sorts of clubs, we need more youth players along with a better scouting network. mcliesh got zarate and benitez to blues if we sign players like this and tell them they can get a move to a really big club it is the only way that we can challenge Ah so your actually agreeing with me? You see I thought you said that we needed to spend big money to compete, now you actually agree that it is possible by putting in place an infrastructure that develops our own talent (which in fairness, is pretty much there at the moment), plays football the right way from the youth to the first team and has a scouting infrastructure that includes scouts with passports we might be able to compete? i still think that to be a really top club we will need to spend a lot of money buti agree with you, that we will need to improve scouting but you cannot deny spurs have and always will spend a lot more than us and unfortunatly because they are in london it is more attractive for players to go there then birmingham. we need to find new ways to attract players
  8. and? What has that got to do with it, just because you want something doesn't mean you are god enough for it. I wanted to be the next Villa manager, does that mean when Alex is fired I will get the job appreciate the fact that he wanted to come to us, by the sounds of it nobody else did, even martinez turned us down and that was a blessing in disguise
  9. thanks good reply. I would ask a question though, why do you think people like me don't like him mainly because he managed the blues. I admit I hate the blues, but his being a blues manager previously has absolutely no bearing on how I feel about him now. In stark contrast I would love him to be successful just so I can turn around to my blue nose mates and gloat that we pinched a great thing from them who will be a legend at our club. So if anything him being at blues and we pinching him I want him to succeed to rub it in my mates faces. Failure they can just say they sold us a lemon. Surely that makes more sense than me wanting him to fail. His record is my issue, how his teams play, he is unimagative, he makes constant errors, he can't react when other manages do, he's not fixing problems that are happening over and over again, international players don't seem to know what to do, tactics seem one dimensional at best and can't change, his excuses are pitiful and we generally 9 times out of 10 look the poorer team in games......that's my reasoning and that's why I want him gone now. I want to build on a team with a manager over the next 5 to 10 years as we go through this phase we are in with money restrictions. We, as fans, need to believe in a manager that can do that but with McLeish we can't and the fans seem to be agreeing with me....low crowds, booing at games, forums in meltdown and media commenting.....it's so detrimental to the club that it has to change now or more likely the summer so this club can consolidate and build for the future. McLeish is not the answer and will never be because too many people don't think he's good enough and he isn't, I'm not backing a manager just because I hear the term we need to get behind him....getting behind the wrong person is just foolish. If there is a problem you fix it and move on, we have a problem and it needs fixing before we can move on. he looks one dimensional because of the squad he inherited, there is no options for him
  10. i think a lot of people are forgetting that he actually wanted to be in charge of villa
  11. nothing is wrong with me and im not on the wind up, i suspect the ones who blindy defend GC and give no reasons for their views are on the wind up. i already posted what would make me change my opinion of him as a football manager of aston villa, perfectly reasonably and logical things which would have to change in order for my views and opinions on his suitability to manage aston villa in a fit and proper manner, yet oddly not one of these 'supporters of him' have offered any kind of answer as to what would make them change their view, even when put in REALLY simple terms. a perfectly reasonable and balanced question which included that i was not some wind up merchant that will never change my mind, however i notice that the loudest ones who wont hear a bad word said against GC oddly enough cant give any answer and then try and make excuses for not being able to give an answer. it is not a difficult or trick question, it is one i would expect a normal 8 year old to be able to answer. i may not agree with the answer but thats life, not answering it and avoiding it at all costs, making weak excuses as to why they wont answer it, well that makes them look like the wind up merchants. i suspect most of them will 'keep right on till the end of the road', with their support of him no matter what happens, making weak excuse after weak excuse. relegation? well it was down to the shape of the football club losing more money than forcast - well its a down turn in the economy fans staying away - well it was raining football pundits on televised games saying " the worst dullest performance i have ever witnessed in the premier league" - well it was a tricky game the excuses will keep coming. and when they do, which some posters have been doing no matter how bad and boring we have been, it is nothing to do with the manager the only reason we wont go down this year is not due to the manager, it is down to other teams being even more shit, this season is a weak premier league, with little tactical nous we should be looking at top 10 with no problems what so ever. with a half decent manager 7th or 8th should be the least target do you think we will get 7th or 8th? getting behind the team is one thing, getting behind a clueless out of his depth one dimentional manager is another if we have done something well i say it, if we do shit then i say it. he has been piss poor, as have a few of the players. i notice people supporting GC are quick to say a player is playing poor but then oddly it is nothing to do with the manager? really? REALLY? cant blame him for everything going wrong at the club. the fans who stay away because of him are just using this as an excuse he hasnt actualy been that bad, a manager is only as good as his players and a lot of them are shite. his biggest mistake so far was buying hutton, jenas looked good when we was fit just a shame it didnt last very long. and he saw we missed a link between attack and midfield so he brought keane in. there is nothing to judge him on until the end of next season at the earliest. he needs to be judged on his own team remember this is mostly MON's team plus bent hutton & given. IMO we will finish around 8th mostly because of our away record, at home players are scared to make mistakes
  12. our current manager  Don't get it.... thought his name was Alex? :? ginger c u next thursday
  13. liverpool might not be one of the biggest clubs now but when the majority of top european players were born in the early 80s liverpool where a big club for them growing up and they will want to play for them. we dont have the money to compete with these sorts of clubs, we need more youth players along with a better scouting network. mcliesh got zarate and benitez to blues if we sign players like this and tell them they can get a move to a really big club it is the only way that we can challenge
  14. We wont even be doing that this season I'm afraid. Your support of Mcleish, though admirable, is at best misplaced Given our current league position, I would say your prediction that we wont be finishing 6th - 10th could be deemed misplaced as well Richard I think 6th to 10th has become 8th to 12th. Neither excites me, of course, but those thinking we'll be in big trouble are incorrect IMO. IMO the top 2 will be man utd & man city for the next few seasons arsenal, spurs & chelsea next, after that its pretty much open for anyone
  15. With all due respect, one excuse after another. He knew what the score was, knew what he had to work with, knew his budget. He has spent it, all 17 million of it and his signings have not really worked at all. I cannot help feeling he spent on luxury rather than looking what was needed. Losing young and downing was a perfect opportunity to change our playing style and invest in players that can play, we brought a winger. The only reason you make these excuses is because you have given up, the moment you say "we are a mid table team" you may as well not bother. I think a new manager in the summer would be the best thing that could happen. We might go somewhere, whereas under McLeish, I suspect we might be fighting for our lives whilst any talent we have is cherry picked. unless we get a stupdily rich owner like man city or move to london we will always be between 6th & 10th. dosent matter who the manager is that is where we are. if he can win a cup with blues and finish top half with themhe must be doing something right I disagree entirely with your post. Money is a shortcut to success, but not necesserily the only way. Tottenham are starting to see the fruits of a progressive transfer policy that focused on younger players initially supplemented by quality. Looks like they will buy Adebyor today for 8m. 8 million! Manchester United are not in London, Liverplop are not in London, Everton didnt move to London to get 4th place or throw silly money at it. Some people will always find excuses why we shouldnt reasonably expect a degree of success. I would prefer that as a club we say, we want to be top four, what do we need to do to get there. tottenham have spent a lot more than us. obviously manchester utd and liverpool are the biggest clubs in england who will attract the best players. spurs might buy adebayor for 8 million but he wages for a year will cost them just aas much all of the most recent succesful clubs have spent money its a fact you cant get away from

  17. 1.we ARE to good to go down 2.there will always be at least 3 clubs worst than us
  18. to be honest he hasnt done that bad a job. more points than last season, and thats when the XI he has picked or most games has had warnock hutton and gabby who might aswell not be on the pitch. he knows what is going wrong and a least he is trying to change things
  19. if we finally drop gabby hutton and warnock we will win, if we play them then its like having a handicap. truly awful at arsenal
  20. this is the view from the arsenal site http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/talking-heads-arsenal-v-aston-villa DAN ROEBUCK, COMMENTATOR It's time to forget about the recent Premier League disappointments and focus on a competition that Arsenal have as good a chance of winning as anybody. For me there is absolutely no reason why they cannot go all the way, with Manchester City already out and one of Liverpool or Manchester United set to follow. Onto the game, Arsenal may be boosted by the possible returns of Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin. Both have been missed one way or another, Arteta in particular in that midfield area. It's certainly been a case of not knowing what you have until it's gone with him. Either way, this is an excellent opportunity for Arsenal to get back on track and put themselves in the hat for the last 16. Villa are no pushovers, as they demonstrated perfectly in their own back yard in December, but I think Arsenal will have too much for them again. STEPHEN HUGHES, CO-COMMENTATOR Regardless of the competition, Sunday is a massive game because Arsenal have to regain some of the confidence lost by virtue of those three league defeats. Arsène Wenger has used the FA Cup to rotate his squad in the past and he might be tempted to do so again with a Premier League trip to Bolton on the horizon, but I hope he plays his strongest available XI. I love the FA Cup and have some great memories of it and it's well within Arsenal's reach this year with Man City and either Liverpool or Man United certain to be out by the fifth round. All the same, Villa are tough in-form opposition and let's not forget they won at the Emirates last season. JAMES McNICHOLAS, GUNNERBLOG For Arsenal fans, the fourth round of the FA Cup will provide some respite from our poor league form. It also presents us with our most realistic path to a trophy this season. The jeopardy surrounding our qualification for next season's Champions League has put the six-year quest for silverware on the back-burner, but we're now just four wins from a major final. With that in mind, I expect us to field a strong team, although the forthcoming visit to Bolton in midweek might encourage Arsène Wenger to give Robin van Persie a rest - particularly if Thierry Henry is fit to start. Aston Villa will provide a stern test for an Arsenal side low on confidence, but I think the home draw will work in our favour and that we'll progress to the fifth round
  21. can honestly say i have not seen hutton do a reducer it has been no tackle or a shane long tackle
