  1. this is not a debating thread. Q&A and comments for the club ONLY, please
  2. Man United sing We Are The Pride of All Europe "We are the Pride of all Europe, The cock of the North, We hate the Scousers, the Cockneys of course (and Leeds!) We are United, without any doubt, We are the Manchester boys..." Walsall sing We Are The Pride of the Midlands http://fanchants.com/football-songs/walsall-chants/we-are-pride-midlands/ "We are the Pride of the Midlands, The Villa are scum, We hate the Wanderers, The Baggies and Brum, We are the Walsall and we are the best, We are the Saddlers so f*ck all the rest..." So how about we sing We Are The Pride of The Midlands (since we are the POTM afterall) http://fanchants.com/football-songs/aston_villa-chants/pride-of-the-midlands/ "We are the Pride of the Midlands The Lions of Brum We hate the City, the Wolves and West Brom (and Cov!) We are the Villa and we are the best We are the Villa so f*ck all the rest" Personally I think it's great because: - It mentions that we are the Pride of the Midlands - It mentions that we are the Lions of Brum - It mentions all 4 of our West Midlands rivals (even Cov! ) Thoughts?
  3. I'd rather Ireland stayed than Houllier. Ireland is a good player. Houller is not a good manager.
  4. First, I don't think you are remembering quite correctly. In MON's first season we were unbeaten for the first 9 games - the longest unbeaten run of any premier league team. We were 6th after 9 games. This was with a squad that, apart from the additions of Petrov, Sutton and Agathe, was the same one that had finished 16th and in quite some disarray the season before. We then went on a poor run and sunk as low as 14th after 25 games, at which stage we were 9 points clear of the relegation zone - the nearest we got to the drop zone. We then picked things up and got 21 points from our final 13 games, including an unbeaten sequence for the last 9 games, rather neatly matching the start to the season. We finished, as you say, 11th, with 50 points - a total that had only been bettered once by a Villa team in the past 6 seasons. Now, perhaps you could explain which parts of this season have been "similar" to that? Secondly, I note you are repeating the idea that we should let Houllier spend all of Randy's money in the summer and then sack him early in the new season if his squad turns out to be no good. I think I have run out of new words to express what a crazy idea that is and how much trouble we would be in if it actually happened. Houllier has failed very badly this season and in my view has not earned the right to take us into the next one. This. Let's be honest can you really see Houllier here for the long-term i.e. 5 years + - er no. He only stayed at Lyon for 2 years before needing a break. You gonna let him spend all our money and then leave for us when he needs a break. Get a younger manager in.
  5. The mere fact that some of us actually see that as success for this season is evidence in itself of why he should be replaced This. Who do you think we are? West Brom? Wolves? Wigan? You think staying up with 5 games to go is some sort of success for our club?
  6. No, quite wrong. The sooner these two go the better - Warnock hasn't been good for more than 12 months and is very disrespectful to the club and fans, we are better off without this kind parasite. Ireland: it would cruel to call most people stupid, however with Ireland you are on safe ground. How this boy has what he has is one of life's injustices. We would have to lose money to get rid of them though. I'd rather keep them and play them. I think they're both good players.
  7. I know, he is actually a player suited to playing in the 'hole' unlike Ash. If we got a new manager (hopefully) we could do with convincing Warnock and Ireland to stay and get them back playing again because at the end of the day they're both good players who we are not using to our own detriment (cutting off our nose to spite our face.)
  8. Would this change if Cov were in the Prem, and Wolves were in the Championship. Would Cov replace Wolves as our #3 rival?
  9. In whos eyes yours? you look about 18??? the last time villa played Coventry id guess you was 9/10???? Coventry through 80's 90's was fierce......on and off the pitch...always a good derby is Coventry. This. Of course it's a derby - and a bigger one than Albion in my opinion, making it only second to Blues. It goes without saying that most Villa fans, myself included, have forgotton about them by now and it is true to say they really are a nothing club. But then what does that mean in the context of whether we have a local rivalry? Nothing. Blues are the biggest joke of a club since records began yet I'd say our derby game with them is one of the most fierce in the UK. It is naive, in my opinion, for people to dismiss this clash simply because we haven't played them for such a long time. As in all derby games, Blues included, when you don't play them for years the rivalry simmers untill the next meeting. Coventry was always a big derby game in the 80's/90's and when we relegated them in 2000 I remember the atmosphere was white hot - and not just from Coventry fans either. There was untold trouble before and after that game, also in VP. They obviously hate us FAR more than we even think about them - but the city is the same distance from Brum as Wolverhampton is and make no mistakes about it - it is a rivalry. Quite a fierce one too in my opinion. This. From what I gather: Blues hate us. Albion hate Wolves, but only really dislike us. Wolves are indifferent to us. Walsall - pre-season friendly Stoke - not a real derby East Midland teams (Forest, Derby, Leicester) - not a real derby Cov hate us. So surely the fact that Cov fans hate us so much, means that we hate them a least a bit back. Surely any Villa-hater (Blues or Cov) is an enemy to us Villa fans?
  10. I wonder if when the Cov fans sang "Everybody shit on the Villa, cuz their a load of shiteeeee" the Blues fan joined in and there was a joint version of SOTV from both Blues and Cov fans? I wonder who hate us more, Blues or Cov?
  11. Just wondering how us Villa fans would rank Coventry in terms of our derby rivals. From what I gather, Coventry hate us with a passion (i.e. they still sing SOTV) and they see us as their no.1 rivals (although since we haven't played them for so long they have developed a rivalry with Leicester.) I think most Villa fans would agree that Blues is our main derby followed by the Albion. But then Wolves isn't really a massive West Midlands derby is it (doesn't seem to mean to much to either club) so would you say that Cov is a bigger derby than Wolves? Would you ever find Wolves fans singing like the Coventry fans in these two videos: I'd love to face them in the FA Cup or Carling Cup next season. Everyone loves a derby don't they?
  12. Is that the same 'Wog Hogson' who's got the Baggies in the top half?Yep, the same Woy that hS never had an English team in the top 5 or 6. He has found his level at WBA, him and Hughes are mid table managers at best. And a Europa League Final with Fulham. And a UEFA Cup Final with Inter. Not to mention various honours in Sweden and Denmark over the years. And of course, named LMA Manager of the Year for 2010. You do talk some absolute bollocks some times. I talk bollox, how much did he win though, LMA manager if the year haha it only because he got Fulham to a poxy Europa final ffs. It's a cup that our last manger wanted nothing to do with. If he was that good Woy didn't he do more at liverpoo??.your talking shit IMO. In England he is only shit. and hasn't even won 30 away games with all the English teams he has been with haha who's talking shit now??. I'd take Hughes over Houllier any day of the week. In fact, I'd take Hughes.
  13. Irish since he is from the Republic of Ireland. If he was from Northern Ireland then you could say that he was both British and Irish.
  14. Yup. Great Britain - England, Scotland, Wales UK - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland British Isles - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland
  15. Robbie Keane is not British. He's Irish.
  16. So if we finish bottom of the league, you'd rather stick with Houllier than give the job to Benitez? Are you serious?
  17. True, we'd probably be seeing McClaren talking about the need for 15 points to stay up! whys that then? sm won the league in holland with fc twenty & a cup..won a cup with boro..let me know if you can think of gh winning a double or a championship. won 5 trophies with liverpool in 1 season. and the league with lyon twice on the bounce Not impressive.
  18. Still not sure if I can get excited over Coyle. Hughes' Fulham are only 2 points behind Coyle's Bolton. Be interesting to see who finishes higher in the league - Fulham or Bolton.
  19. Probably about equal to be honest. Johnson was playing better in the first part of the season, Downing's playing better now (Johnson's been injured.) I do think that Johnson is much better at playing on the right as I think Downing doesn't really like to go on the outside on his right foot. Don't write off Johnson though just because he doesn't play for Villa. He is probably as good as Downing and he is younger.
  20. Allardyce - Got Bolton promoted. Established them as a Premier League club. Got them into Europe for the first time in their history. Curbishley - Got Charlton promoted. Established them as a Premier League club. Kept West Ham up. What have Grayson, Lambert, Poyet, Hughton, Coyle ever done? Less than Allardyce and Curbishley that's for sure :winkold:
  21. What's with all the bias against the English managers? It's like the England job all over. People write off the likes of Allardyce and Curbishley but why? They've done more than Coyle, Hughton, Lambert, Poyet etc. Personally I don't want another foreign manager after the Houllier debacle. I think the next manager should be British. I don't think that a British manager would have disrespected the club in the same way that Houllier has. So even though they seem to be unpopular (because they're English?), I'd be happy with Allardyce, Curbishley, McClaren, Hughes (I know he's Welsh) etc. I feel that English managers should be given a chance at the bigger clubs (of which we are one) as they are always disregarded for foreign managers - Jol, Van Gaal, Riijkard, Ranieri etc. EDIT:Oh and before anyone goes off on one about Allardyce playing long ball, Allardyce says he has only played direct football because of the clubs he has been at and the resources he has had at his disposal. You don't know for certain that he would play the same way with the quality of players he would have had Villa.
