  1. Purslow is a very cool customer. I love the fact that he is at the helm of our great club, wonderfully backed by superb owners. I have watched his interview. He again stated how ambitious our owners are. He also said that our transfer plans were well defined and in progress and were designed to improve the first team and the squad. He then deliberately made some vague comments, entirely purposely not wanting to reveal any further detail.

I suspect we will be looking for 2/3 starters plus a couple of squad players. The budget will be around £100m. Purely speculation on my part but that’s where I got to reading between the lines.

  2. I do wonder whether Hause will look to move on this summer. He left Wolves to play first team football. That looks unlikely for us. Hope I am wrong because he provides excellent cover and could head away a small planet.

    No way would i.

Why do people keep saying this? Competition for places if ollie performs he will stay in the team of he doesnt then his place will be under threat

If ollie gets a 2-3 month injury touch wood wont happen who we wgot davis who has scored a mighty one goal all sesson or wesley who has been out for 18 months.

We  need another striker in my view as well. If thw grealish injury has taight us something we need to ensure we can cope with injuries to key players

I suppose the point is, why spend £40m on a player to provide competition to an established performer when we have glaring needs in our first 11 to be addressed first. If money were no object then it would be great to sign Tammy(although £40m is way too much and he wouldn’t come here unless he was guaranteed a starting place). Spending £40m on a centre mid or a wide forward would provide much greater overall benefit to the team than spending it on competition for an established, performing player.

I know this is probably an unpopular opinion, however I’d absolutely love it if we could get Dele Alli.

Admittedly he’s suffered a huge dip in form recently however, class is permanent and I really think Dean would get the best out of him. He’s still only 25, still a fantastic talent, with the added bonus of already having significant premier league and European experience and I’ve no doubt he would slot straight into our midfield and have a massive impact almost immediately.

He does tick a lot of boxes for me and Spurs are apparently desperate to get him off their books, so potentially he could be available for as little as £25m which would be a real bargain.

    UTV

You have got to question why Spurs are so desperate to get rid of a young English player in his prime! Massive no for me. I never thought he was ever that good. He has been rubbish for ages and he would want massive wages.

  5. As a team I think we really lack football intelligence. This kid has it in spades. His reading and anticipation are incredible. If our midfield trio had his intelligence we would be much the better for it. Exceptional tonight. Really enjoyed watching him play.

Watching BT kind of reminds me of Watching Tony Daley back in his prime, obviously BT hasn't got that blistering pace TD had, but the uncertainty of what's going to happen when he has the ball at his feet gets you to sit/stand up and get excited to see what he,s going to do, beat three players score a worldie, fall over, 50 yard back pass after beating 3 men who knows!

I think the same every time I watch Saint Maximin. Very Tony Daley like in my view.

  7. I am pleased for AEG. He is a likeable bloke and has played an important role in our renaissance but I think now is the perfect time to sell him. His value will be fairly high, probably the highest it will ever be and we need better than he can offer. He scored a great penalty today but the rest of his performance was really poor. If we could sell him for a large amount and replace him with a younger player of similar value but greater potential, then we should do it. Otherwise, happy for him to be back up next season.

A glimpse of what a very good DM can bring to Aston Villa.

This is so true. Sort out centre mid and wide forwards and we are top 8 easily. Bert did quite well today but AEG was a total passenger.

  9. We have been poor when coming up against an energetic, pressing team in recent months. Chelsea will not give us a second of rest so it will be interesting to see how we cope with that now Jack is back. I suspect Dean will bring Luiz back in for Marvelous, although hopefully he will stick with our team from Spurs.

The result is kind of irrelevant although a win would be lovely. A good performance and no injuries will do me though. Is it too greedy to hope for a Grealish goal? UTV

  10. Really hope Ty makes the England squad and then forces himself into the starting 11. I love everything about him. I think our recovery only really started the day that he walked into our beautiful club.

Norfolk or Birmingham, I know where I would sooner be.

However, when it comes to the football and the teams, Claret and Blue wins that battle.

Norfolk is the epitome of bland. For a young man Birmingham wins hands down.

  12. I gave Dean loads of grief after one of our worst performances of the season at Palace. Only fair that I should give him some Kudos after today. Much better Dean. Very well done. Loved seeing the youngsters on the pitch too. No complaints from me.

    Admit what?

Did you actually listen to it?

He's not agreeing with you and the small gang that constantly criticise. He didn't criticise the job Smith's done at all. He used the phrase weak link in relation to our owners. He clarified it further by saying he doesn't think there are many top 6 managers out there. He also said he's unsure if Smith can take a team into the top 6. I love Dean Smith, but I'm not sure he can either. It's an incredibly difficult ask.

I thought he said that he thought that Dean was the weak link. He then went on to say he got us promoted but only off the back of the good work undertaken by his old mate Brucie! That bit made me laugh out loud.

Wasn't sure how to clip it, starts at 2h 30.

Thanks for sharing mate. Very interesting listen. I do like Jordan. He clearly likes the Villa and always bigs us up. We need more media spin like his to help raise our profile.

I would like us to get 50 points. Doesn't mean a lot in the grand schemes but I don't want us to be hanging on 49 by the final whistle on Sunday.

Quite a long way into this season it looked like we were on for 60 plus. Not achieving 50 would feel very disappointing. It’s unlikely we can get a win in either of our last two matches so a scrambled draw will have to do.

There is no chance Dean Smith gets sacked, regardless of the next two games.

I doubt there is a single pundit or neutral fan who thinks Smith's job is on the line.

I don’t disagree about the pundit/neutral fan point but part of that is because Villa go under the radar. They will not look at the detail. They will just see a club that finished 17th last season and 11/12th this season. They won’t look at form, performance, injuries, sequencing of games etc. I think the owners will take everything into account, positive and negative and that he will come under pressure.  Just my opinion of course. I could be well wide of the mark.

We have 23 points from our last 22 games, aka 1.04 PPG, aka a 39/40 point season based on those last 22 games.

If we lose against Spurs & Chelsea, thats 2 wins in the last 14, and 6 wins in 24.

We currently have 2 wins in the last 12, and 6 wins in the last 22.

Our first 14 games were way above what we could have reasonably expected, so well done there as that early form is what has ensured our season isnt a semi dog fight, but the last 22 games have been way...way below what i think is reasonably acceptable, our last 22 games have been relegation dogfight form.

I know you can’t ignore the early season form. We were ace up until Christmas. Way better than anyone expected, but when you get such a long spell of poor form, the pressure is going to be there from the people who have invested £300m or whatever it is on new players.

I know people don’t like to hear it but it’s true. I said after the CP match that I wanted a change. I have obviously calmed down a bit now and can see things from a wider perspective but those kind of stats will grab the attention of the owners and not in a good way. Whether any of us think it’s right or wrong, another 2 performances like Sunday and I would not be surprised to see Dean sacked.

Just for the record, what I would like to see are 2 very good performances, regardless of results, that show we are on the right track. If we get those then I will be happy.

We have 23 points from the last 21games which is 2nd half of our season. We played City twice in that time, had a fixture pile up others didnt and we lost to United, City and Liverpool with very questionable calls

How is 21 games the second half of the season? We only play 38 matches. All of those other things are true but still........I am shocked.

  19. I listened to the Villa Podcast last night. They reckon we have 17 points from our last 18 games. I haven’t checked that stat but if it’s true I am genuinely shocked. It has felt bad for a while but I had no idea it was that bad. That could easily be 17 points from 20 games come the end of the season! That will certainly get some attention in the boardroom.
