Not sure that's the correct approach to the transfer market for us, tbh. Look at Spurs, do they cash in on their MVPs? No, they fight tooth and nail to keep them, and I think it's absolutely fair to say they would not still be top four right now without likes of Kane and Son. By rights the rest of that squad certainly have no business being up there.

We should be doing everything we can to keep Emi, full stop, IMO.

The difference is that Spurs are consistently a top 5 club and we are not..

We all have difference in opinions, I just think if a club offers £85- 90+ million for Emi then we should sell him..

There are clubs that have finished above us with worse Goalkeepers..

    Why?

I think they money can be used to improve our squad.

Controversial opinion.. But.. I don’t see the benefit of having a world class goalkeeper if we’re a mid table club trying to break the top 10 - 8.

If we had a world class striker or midfielder then we would have to keep him 100% and build a squad around that player..

There's an interview section with Unai Emery on today's episode of Michael Calvin's Football People podcast if anyone wants to have a listen (starting at around 30th minute)

    Very good interview.

    He spoke about

    • What he wants to implement here
    • His passion for the game
    • How he is able to watch games reduce the information for players to digest.

This was a reminder that we have a high calibre coach at Aston Villa.

We have not had this type of manager here.. ever

  4. So..

He is our best goalkeeper of recent memory, however this does not mean that he is exempt of criticism.

Despite saying a few months ago that the time wasting didn't bother me it has begun to gripe me now..

I just feel like the time wasting is not progressive football, I would rather our team try to keep the ball with short passes.

Emi is in a weird position in terms of his career, he is playing catch up because he has peaked later in his career and now he has accumulated this success in a span of 2/3 years of first team football.. Remarkable tbh

So I understand his eagerness to progress and I don't blame him if he wants to move on because he is high level and is currently the top 5 Goalkeeper in world football right now..

But if he does not get on with Unai then he has to go, there can't be two different voices in the dressing room..

  5. Love him, but he is at point where he needs to test himself at a higher level, he should 100% leave this summer and hopefully we get a good fee for him too.

He turns 31 in September and I am sure he wants to have at least 5 years of Champions League and title winning football.

  6. I was disappointed by his performance yesterday and I personally have had to come to the realisation that he is not going to be a top player at this club..

He is lacking a lot at this level.

    He is a highlight player..

He has talent but he is weak, soft and many other things..

If he left in the summer I wouldn't be too disappointed..

  7. I think we need a rebuild and a potential overhaul, not because we have lost two in a row but mainly because we have a squad built up of 3 managers.

Leading towards the summer when Grealish got sold, the squad has been poorly constructed and although we have some good pieces i.e (Kamara and Dougie..  ) we are very passive defensively and lack physicality.

I don't expect this all to happen this summer and this could potentially take two seasons for the players that were with us in the first season to be moved on..

Name one or two  other than Pau Torres, Thiago Silva and Marquinhos.

You’ve named 3 better defenders already..

Do you expect me to include more to strengthen my case??

so you think he's our best defender but you also think emery will sell him in the summer? am i understanding that correctly?

We need to find someone to play alongside Diego Carlos..

If the contract situation isn’t addressed I can see him leaving.

Emery is ruthless and has worked with better quality defenders, he knows if Mings has what it takes to meet his demands..

I like Mings, he has been a solid presence and a constant in uncertain recent times, he has been a force for good for the club. He is a grown up and a decent human being too. But I don’t want that to romantically cloud judgement on what we need to move forward.

I hope we keep Mings at the club, a bit like Young - a squad player with class, respect and integrity, but I hope we buy a replacement: a progressive, ball playing CB. As the ‘team’ improves and possession and general defensive shape improves we will have less of a need on a stopper.

I think the game against Leicester did Mings no favours in Emery’s eyes. In fact I think Konsa and a Mings are done, they are just too slow and uncomfortable in possession for what Emery wants from his team. I reckon we see a new CB pairing come August.

    He has to go imo..

He had too much influence and personality to be a squad player here.. Gerrard tried that and that backfired for him amongst many other things..

  11. Honestly speaking..

We are not going to get into Europe with Mings in defence..

He has been our best defender because our other defenders are not premier league standard..

    EDIT

I think Emery will move him on in the summer and that will kickstart his regime at Villa..
