  1. Sink or swim time for Lambert now these two have been, rightly or wrongly, scapegoated for the poor form/attitudes at Villa. Lambert has come out of it relatively unscathed, seen as the guy cleaning up the problem rather than causing it.

But why was this culture allowed to develop under Lamberts reign at all? He should have been managing these two, not letting them run riot.

...and given this is Aston Villa I'd wager my house that these two will receive a fat pay off, no matter how heinous their actions turn out to be.

  2. I would play the same first xi as Saturday with Bertrand in for Bennett. Joe had a good game but I think Ryan suits the Stoke game more.

Agreed. I think so long as everone is fit, the villa team more or less picks itself (the vs. Chelsea team but with Betrand) with the exception of whether Baker or Clark plays along side Vlaar. These are clearly our best players and we don't really have any depth to pick and change.

  3.

Seen on the SSN app that the daily mirror reporting that Lerner isn't looking to sell, but is instead looking for fund-raising ideas to help the club.

No quotes, not even an 'anonymous source'.

File this under stuff the tabloids have just made up to fill pages on a slow news day.

You can literally follow the warped tabloid BS logic to it:

"Hmmm Randy Lerner hasnt invested much in Villa lately....HEADLINE: LERNER LOOKING TO SELL VILLA!"

"Hmmm well the club have put a statement out totally rejecting that theory....HEADLINE: LERNER BROKE AND LOOKING FOR FUNDS!"

  4. I don't believe a word of that above... it is the same all the time, the same line.. "I speak to Randy two or three times each day" - the standard reply for any question asked.

    I think Randy will sell.

The fact that this is a typical response shows how Lerner completely lacks any public presence to the fans of the club. Even the cheif exec knows this which is why he has to constantly remind us that, yes, our owner does in fact still exist.

Hope more stories like this emerge until Lerner has to actually show some kind of public presence.

    Rob Butler @BobRutler

Three quarters of 'McVeigh and Butler' - every Thursday at 6pm on BBC Radio Norfolk. #canarycall presenter after every #ncfc game home and away, rain or shine

    1. Hughton also said as far as he is concerned Hoolahan is the only unhappy player who wants to leave. #ncfc

    2. I asked Chris Hughton if he could still see Hoolahan leaving this week... He wouldn't commit to a definite answer on that one. #ncfc

Surely thats that then. Can't imagine Hughton refusing to deny he was leaving unless he was nailed on to go. It will happen on the final day of the window when the brinkmanship has run its course and a fee is agreed.

  6. Hoolahan vs N'Zogbia?

Other than lower wages what's the pro's for Hoolahan?

Havn't seen him play that much soo it's a genuine question

N'Zogbia has pretty much never looked consistantly any good in a Villa shirt?

  7. Firstly he needs to produce a solid defensive unit to complement the pretty great attacking line up he has assembled. If Lambo can manage that, we will have a special team on our hands, and he might deserve to get mentioned with the great AV managers.

  8. Great result, OK performance. Passing was a bit spotty today and as a result we lost ALOT of comfortable possession and only managed about 35% of the possession, which isn't great. Having said that i'm certain we will improve and if we can score 3 on the off days we will smash a top ten place. Guzan is invaluable as always, seems like most our wins are helped by a blinding save from the big man. Nitpicking really, c'mon the villa!

  9. The best player by a country mile in the bomb squad and we could only manage a loan deal for him.

Don't look good with getting rid of the rest.

As a result of a series of clerical errors, Stephen Ireland will likely remain on the books for another 8 years at least.

  10. Remember too we only took 1pt from our opening 3 Premier League fixtures last season.

It's a tough start. But we need to make sure it's a tough start for Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool too.

We could easily be the surprise team next season.

    Why not?

Exacly, what a statement of intent say... 4/5 points from these 3 games would be.

  11. Not even worth discussing. It's an entirely theoretical idea- of course we would like him back but Barry will not take a ~60k a week pay cut to come here when Stoke or West Ham will offer him ~75% of his existing wage to go there. They are welcome to him as he is not worth those wages, especially 3 years down the line when he has less impact and no resale value.
