We stayed in the capital Skopje but it really opened up when we hit the road, we stayed in Lake Ohrid and Strumica. The countryside is great and the lakes really good. The water was dead clean too. Fairly untouched and the weather is pretty darn good in summer, pretty cold in winter though. Lake Ohrid is worth a look. There was a english guy bumming around the country in an old city link sprinter van which was quite funny, we bumped into him by the Lake.
