This is to help publicise England's bid for the World Cup in 2018 and they would like as many of us as is possible to register our support here.. By adding this link to the competition they are hoping we'll help towards achieving their target of two million registered fans supporting the bid to bring the World Cup to Villa Park and some other places in this country. Now, here's the interesting bit, the forum with the closest line up to an XI selected by John Barnes (one of the bid's Vice Presidents) will win the chance to send a forum correspondent to the post-match press conference for the England versus Andorra match on June 10th, as well as a ticket for the match itself. They would like a team submitted by the 5th June, which means we've only got the rest of this week, so please register your support for the England's World Cup bid and vote here for your all-time best World Cup Midfielder. sled Posted June 3, 2009 Share Posted June 3, 2009 Jairzinho only gets into this category by dint of (lol) being considered a winger as that's what all wingers, old and present-day, are now classed as. Jairzinho certainly did spend a lot of time on the wing and during the 1970 World Cup no one ever thought that he was anything other than a winger. Later a bit of analysis was done which showed that he was in fact a centre forward who played FROM the right wing. And was always cutting un. To replace the so-called centre forward, Tostao - an incredibly technical player - who inevitably raced out to the left wing on na decoy run. In fact this one of the many ways in which Zagalo managed to fool the world and win a World Cup. Despite having a defence that was crying out for a Liam Ridgewell, a Titus Bramble or a Perry Digweed just to give it some semblance of quality. A midfielder he was not though.
