For me Messi is clearly the better player in their thing, but I know I'm probably influenced a little by how much I like them, y'know, by whether or not I think they're a colossal arsehole. I hope that isn't why I prefer Messi over Ronaldo, but Ronaldo is a gaping aperture and who knows, perhaps that affects me at a subconscious level in choosing. Ditto Haaland and Mbappe, albeit it at a lower level, Haaland seems to be a likeable, peculiar chap with some self awareness, whereas Mbappe is a little bit more of an erm....y'know.
