V01
I have a flash drive I use to watch films and whatnot on my xbox, everything has worked fine for months until today. I plugged it into my laptop and selected the stuff I've already watched and hit shft+del, confirmation dialogue box opened as usual and I confirmed progress bar pops up as usual then about 5 seconds later it and the file explorer window close. I open the device folder again and nothing has been deleted, I try again and get nothing. Ejecting the device and re-inserting did nothing so I tried to format it and got a write protection notification. Google'd for a fix and found regedit and diskpart as possible solutions. tried diskpart first ran "list disk", "select disk #", then "attributes disk clear readonly". came back as completed, However this did not work. I tried again then ejected the device and reinserted, still no joy. Moved onto the regedit method. created a new registry (StorageDevicePolicies) in the relevant subfolder and added a WriteProtect DWORD entry with the value set at 0. restarted computer and still no joy. Googled some more and found a few more commands to run in the diskpart method. first of these was "clean" to be ran after the attributes line, but this comes back as an I/O error. Am I doing something wrong is it ****?
limpid Posted January 19, 2016 Administrator Share Posted January 19, 2016 USB sticks have a finite life. Unless there is something of value on it, buy another.
