I don't think PT would put weaker tactics/ subs against Liverpool, but I would have a niggling thought in the back of my head if we lost to them..
Are you off your head ?

Have heard Thompson call us a big club that has greatly underachieved in 20 years. He is just giving his opinion.
What better incentive for him to go and do something about it!
I'm not a fan of his, but I'm also fully aware I don't need to be. I'm not likely to be going drinking with him anytime soon after all. He's here to do a job, not be my friend - and being the winner he is, he'll do everything possible to achieve his high goals
That's good enough for me. A few ruffled feathers may be a good thing too. Some players get to laidback at clubs, a kick up the arse every now and again works wonders for keeping people on their toes

The League never lies. Being insanely lucky in the Champions League does lie.
They never beat Chelsea, they had 6/7 minutes of madness against Milan and were totally outplayed for the rest of the game and they needed a late goal to get out of the group stages.
Did that bother you and make our achievement any less satisfying in May '82 ?

I bet i'm not the only person on here that LOATHED Big Ron before he came to Villa. I couldn't stand the bloke.
But once he came to MY club and did his best for us that changed overnight.
Thats football for you.
And if knocker Thompson comes he'll be getting my full support too.
-
As for him quitting Sky will show he'll be committed to us how the **** does that work?.
I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about to be honest
If he's quit it's because he's coming to Villa. He can hardly do both jobs can he?
Hope MacDonald is happy to go back to doing what he's great at. Unless his head has been turned by the bright lights

Seems a good idea General. Put yer feet up and take a load off for a week or so.
All will be back to normal in a few weeks
-
The reaction to Phil Thompson from some borders on the pathetic.
To be fair, people are perfectly entitled to think he's a clearing in the woods
He hasn't exactly been complimentary to our club over the years. Including the last few weeks
-
He won the treble
'a' treble. not 'the' treble
-
I've not rode a bike in about 6 years, but I bet I can still get on one and ride it like it was yesterday since I rode it last.
I guarantee your legs would disagree
-
I've missed a few pages of this thread and don't have access to Sky Sports News anymore so can someone tell me where all the Phil Thompson talk has come from? Is he going to be Houllier's assistant?
Just people putting 2+2 together and coming up with concorde face
Lets not forget Thompson said only a few weeks ago Villa were overachieving being 6th in the league. If he does come with Gerard maybe the club will have to come out and issue a new set of standards to which we're now aiming so Phil doesnt get any big ideas about trying to overachieve

The 63-year-old had been expected to be confirmed as Martin O’Neill’s replacement at Villa Park today or tomorrow, but the deal has been delayed over some minor complications which club officials are confident of smoothing out in the next 48 hours.
EXCELLENT!
Moyes must be resigning
-
If not Houllier, the who?
Klinsmann maybe?
Not sure they would be interested to be fair.
Unless Curbs got the job of course!
-
He's only 2 years older than MON!
Not when O'Neill was appointed to do a long term job though!
63 is hardly an age to 'START' building a side
-
If its Houllier, then like any manager he'll get my full support
It's hardly an inspiring choice though, and screams SHORT TERM due to his age. Which doesn't fit in with the building a dynasty line
But, hey ho. Onwards we go
-
He has also said far more worse things about the fans than Oleary ever did
As someone who reads the General's posts all the time i'd love to know what these 'worse things than O'Leary ever did' were
?
He's never said one thing that i've took as offensive in all his time here
-
If we cant get Moyes or Jol why not wait? Stick with Kevin for the time being and use the season to blood in the youth and save a few pennies...Then maybe look at the end of the season and see how things lie? Im sure a squad full of young players with experiance, mixed with a nice transfer kitty would be more appealing to a manager like Moyes?
Its like the people say.The timing has been against us.Why would Moyes want to take over when the season has started and transfer window closed?
Stick with Kevin, have a season where we could finish bottom half (or worse) and then try and entice a manager like Moyes from that position ?
Not likely is it!
If we stick with Kevin, we've also got to get a bloody move on and employ a whole host of new staff pronto
-
David Moyes would be barmy to leave Everton for Villa. Some fans really need to open their eyes to reality.
Based on what logic ?
He's at a club of similar stature and has been for 7/8 years (I think) and has pretty much hit the glass ceiling with them now.
The only way they will go further is with a big cash push which we know they havent got.
The one thing we can offer him that they can't is a billionaire owner. Whether Randy would give him the funds to take US through that glass ceiling who knows ?
But he sure as hell isn't ever going to get the funds to do it at Everton and i'm sure he knows that too. He's effectively just treading water every season now. At some point you need to take a new challenge just for your own sake.
He can hang on in in the vain hope he'll be offered the Man Utd job one day but thats one hell of a gamble. And none of the other 'BIG 4' are likely to come knocking anytime soon are they ?
Which leave us
-
Last season, even as a season ticket holder I couldn't get a ticket for this game. This time I got one no probs and there are lots left apparently
Weird.
-
Nothing to suggest we have not approached for all these managers just people getting into a tizzy.
Sadly there's nothing to suugest we have either. Which is why people are getting in a 'tizzy'
The only names we're hearing from people allegedly ITK, are out of work managers, most of whom havent been employed for a while.
Is it that we have offered the job to some top names who are in work and all have turned us down flat or is it that we havent even tried ?
That's the only question I can see that folks are worried about. If we're that an unattractive proposition to top names then i'm very worried.
-
Whats all this 'who are available' nonsense ?
You don't just buy players that are out of contract do you?, you make offers and they either become available or they don't
No different with managers. If you don't ask you don't know
-
Houllier and Staunton ... really whets the appetite
Champions League here we come
Not.
-
As a fan you have the right to spout your opinion but the club can interview who the **** they like.
True they can, but he as a supporter can also say/think whatever the **** he wants as its his club
-
About halfway through last season, I was fed up of H&V's anti O'Neill brigade and stopped viewing their site. Their constant opinion was we could do much better than O'Neill and should get rid there and then.
Their theory being, that if he left we'd have our pick of the best managers (outside the top 4) queueing round the block for the chance to manage us
I wonder what they're thinking now ?
Its the dregs of the managerial graveyard and nothing else it seems
Confirmed: Houllier is the new Villa manager
