  1. Look, if he can motivate the complacent, straighten out the inconsistent, guide the young and eager, ship out the drunks and malcontents who are not half as good as they think they are, then Aston Villa, like the phoenix, will rise again.
  2. Ha! If it turns out to be Martinez he's not going to know how to act when dealing with RL. Talk about night and day in owners. Randy doesn't say shit when shit is needed to be said and Whelan talks shit when shit should not be talked.
  3. Thought I read (paper speculation) that he was in the running for Villa and Liverpool. Maybe just got the Villa part from here
  4. I remember where I heard that last... Kidding, I think Martinez would do a good job. Why? Dunno, just think they would go for a big name if they were planning to spend money. Big name like Villa Boas? Btw what happened to that link? Linked to an Italian team or French team? That Villa link died quick
  5. Maybe he won't have to teach it. Maybe he can get rid of the lame-o(s) that dont have the skill set and bring in a couple that do. The young guys can all pass. The hoofers just hoof. They are easy to spot.
  6. Frankly I'd be happy with Lambert or Martinez. Two totally different styles of play and different men but I'd gladly support either one and their quest to turn us around and compete.
  7. I'll support whoever the new manager is simply because it wont be Alex McLeish BUT at this time I'd like to see a manager appointed who is running to Villa because it's an ideal as opposed to running from where they are to get away from a situation they don't like. Lambert - good situation at NCFC so if he comes it's because he sees Villa as a step above. Rodgers the same. OGS, Poyet true as well. Frankly if Martinez was offered the Villa job and doesn't take it to me that shows he doesn't meet the criteria for being ambitious/hungry. Young, yes, but ambitious, no. So jog-the-hell-on
  8. I'm still waiting on Ancellotti. I heard he got lost in Paris but Randy's plane should be delivering him any moment now... where's TheTrees for confirmation?
  9. It would seem that Gazton has more than a player as a source. And no matter who the source is, in my opinion, that person(s) will have more interesting "speculation" if you want to call it that, than the rest of us. At least that speculation is based on more informative tidbits than the rest of us posting on here and twitter. So I hope Gazton continues to post whatever it is that he's heard. Nothing is gospel until a signature is on the dotted line, of course.
  10. Last years managerial appointment was shocking, disgusting, ridiculous and has caused many if not most Villa fans to lose respect and faith in this board, rightfully in my opinion. BUT what they were looking for last year is not what they are looking for this year. All they cared about was the trimming of the wage bill and someone mean and ugly enough to be the bad Santa and work with no money. What idiot would take that on? Oh right McLeish. The Villa situation was still a huge step up for that clown. However, This past season proved to the board that the fans won't tolerate the negative football, the negative attitudes of players and the negative direction of the club. The manager for this upcoming season will not have to be bad Santa and will probably be able to move along some of the shit players who are soon out of contract. So...a very long winded post to say that the Villa job this year is a better job than last year's job and should be appealling to a broader mix of applicants.
  11. Hmmm, so do you know something but can't share because you are sworn to secrecy or are you just a particularly positive, sunny dispositioned, glass half full, walk on the sunny side of the street type of person?
  12. Mantis don't let them quell your hope, man! With Villa, lets face it, hope is all we **** have! Ha! Granted I'm still hoping Ancelotti will turn up to sign a contract as Villa's new manager so I can hope with the best of them. I think he just got lost in Paris and ran out of money and had to take any ol' job but he'll make it here soon enough. Seriously though OGS is near certain a dead horse, it's hard to assume anything other than that but until a new manager is appointed no one TRULY knows a damn thing.
  13. We bought him from Blackburn. I don't see what Rafa had to do with that one Yeah, My bad. Well he shipped him to Blackburn didn't he? He can ship him back to Liverpool through Blackburn again for all I care.
  14. Yep. And on a 4 year deal. Laughable. Okay good. Proves Rafa can adequately deal in the transfer market. Maybe he can fleece others by selling Collins Dunne and Warnock again. Didn't WC Fields say that there was a sucker born every minute? Ha!
  15. It does look like Randy wants a manager on the free, doesn't it? No other club has leaked that Villa are snooping around for their manager so who ever Randy has targeted next is not under contract, is my assumption. Based on all the press on OGS it seems he didn't have a specific compensation clause in his contract if he chose to move to a PL team and his contract was re-worked to add it this week! Guess Randy thought he could get OGS for little or nothing too. So the Rafa rumours probably are more than rumours. I know we judge managers and players based on their last job and on their failures but Benitez is a good manager even if he is a fat ass arrogant one. Hey maybe our boys need a little injection of arrogance. Rafa with a kitty of cash might just work! Personally I'm neutral regarding him but should he be appointed I'm 100% behind him.
  16. What I love is that we know only one person has been approached and we only know that because Randy's plane was dispatched to Norway to bring the one person back to Brum for an interview. The response was overwhelmingly positive. It also appeared that it was all systems go until one night at dinner the one known candidate re-negotiated his contract to include a compensation clause to be paid to his club if he were to leave. If there was a formal request to speak to any other PL or Championship or La Liga or Serie A or Bundesliga manager who is under contract we would know that not from Villa's end but from the other club's end. It leaks out no matter how discrete Villa may want the process to be. It's hard to keep those things quiet. Then the club keeps suggesting to local press that they are okay with how things are progressing? That they are working on it?None of it adds up.
  17. Not inspired by the thought of Benitez. Not one bit...sigh... after a year of watching utter dreck would love to watch the beautiful game.
  18. I bet there was no formal offer but Randy told OGS to take the weekend to think over his interest and the whirlwind of a firestorm started and the wife got cold feet or really hated the turmoil and it was all off-putting. It's easier to stay than it is to go and they opted to not move forward with a formal offer.
  19. Why are you insisting that we turned him down rather than the other way around? If you have a wife and kids and there is a major life change being offered it's not just your choice! You have to take their feelings and desires into account or your ass will be divorced right quick.
  20. Dear Randy, If you are reading message boards, **** NO to di matteo. Sincerely, Villanesque p.s I'm serious dammit!
  21. Tbh I don't know who I want. I didn't know I wanted OGS until it was obvious that he was under consideration. Though I don't know who I do want I do know who I don't want. Roberto di matteo is not a manager I'd want to see at Villa. I'm not going to join the argument as to whether or not he's luckiest son of bitch to have ever won Champions League but rather I'm of the opinion that he works well with well paid veteran players who have had loads of previous CL experience:) There is nothing about his style of management or tactics that indicates that he would be great with younger players. We know our old crotchity veteran players are NOT going to work hard enough and care big enough to bring their best effort every game. We need someone who can inspire our young core of first teamers to play real football and play with pride. RDM isn't that guy in my opinion of course.
  22. So we'll find out in afternoon what's going on. IF PF/RL/Board had not gotten him to sign contract instantly he said yes, it's just **** up beyond belief. Never should take anyone's word in anything like that before they have actually signed. Huh?
  23. To kiss and make up. If it was anything other than that it would be Villa hosting the presser. Stick a fork in this one. It's done...sigh
  24. True but it's long and drawn out & has lots of twists & turns - plus OGS does remind me of a Frodo Baggins type. Frodo may well have got his reward on this occasion too.... a huge big payrise of Rokke - hence the meal in Oslo with his wife! Who knows?!!! If all of this speculation and adulation leads to the culmination merely of a freaking pay raise then my admiration was based on my imagination and that will be my rationalization for my humiliation.... for believing in this guy. Say it ain't so Ol'
  25. I voted for Ole. Yes he may be too young. Yes he may be too inexperienced. Yes he is definitely a risk but there is an optimism with him. He's someone that wants to coach at Villa. Some one who knows the prestige of the club and respects the history of the club. I'd be happy with Lambert and he would be a great appointment but OGS may be the charasmatic leadership the team and the club need. He'll recognize those that mail it in and those that give their all. He'll immediately have the respect of every player and if there's one that doesn't show the appropriate respect he'll show them the door. He'll have a lot to prove and he'll have a lot riding on this appointment. Hope he gets the nod from the board.
