Also in that case, Rafa's achievements are also down to Houllier because he inherited Dudek, Smicer etc etc.

played infront of a capacity crowd after the draw for the champs league and broadcast worldwide. By the way Atletico celebrated it, didn't look exhibition to me.
-
Cups are cups mate.
If you think the Charity Shield and the European Super Cup are actual honours you are mistaken. One is a one legged pre-season exhibition game the other is a two legged exhibition game that rarely attracts even a TV camera
Eh?
Euro super cup is a one off match and attracts cameras easily. Been on the BBC for past few years and was on Sky this time round.
I was trying to see where he was coming from with that one myself.
-
I can see where you are coming from, but Ligue 1 is a far stronger league than the SPL.
-
c) what was the point in your post? was it just to belittle my opinion?
As it often is, like a few others on here.
-
Why do we celebrate the 1983 Super Cup then if it isn't an honour? Which one is 2 legged?

Sven We'd be laughed at just as much with his appointment.
-
i hope Randy wasn't hopping for bums on seats style football with this one, what a shite appointment this is,some on here are happy with the appointment fair enough, but this will end bad forget top 6 or even 8 imo
Can you tell me next week's loot numbers please mate? PM me if you don't want anyone else to know.

Check this guy out http://tinyurl.com/33benwc . He was successful in the past with a certain club, got sacked didn't last long in another job. Had three years out and then went on to win the biggest prize in football. Perhaps the Spanish FA got him on the cheap too because there was no compensation!
It means absolutley nothing that Houllier isn't at a club job. There are plenty of reasons as to probably why that is. Even the Messiah was out of work before he came here. Some people want to **** moan for the sake of it.
-
With us probably not playing too directly and using the midfield more, he will get to show us what he is about more. If we do play direct, his size will go against him.
-
I'm glad he finally got it.
Finally got what?
The fact that we will have appointed an unemployed manager that is not as good as the ones who were employed but who we could not get due to compensation?
that isn't a bew opinion i have had
In your opinion Richard.

General, a few posts back I said actions speak louder then words and IMO if Houllier is the man then you have made a shrewd appointment and has signalled a certain amount of ambition. Time will tell whether he will be successful but I feel that he has the reputation to make everyone realise that we are still serious about going forward as a club.

Staggering the amount of negative people on here. Then i really don't think it would matter who was appointed as some would still find some way of turning it into a negative so i guess with Houllier's age, former heart problem & consequential loss of form at Liverpool it merely makes him an easy target for the "ink bullies".
Don't get me wrong i understand just how much this means to us all but for me it is time to accept the difficult predicament the club found itself in & move forward with positivity & focus on all the good in this situation.
If it is GH then we can rest assured that Randy & co must have seen him as the best option & therefore, as i trust their judgement, i will trust he is the best guy for the job at this time. So what are the positives?
1. By all accounts his tenure at Liverpool was split into 2 halves. The 1st half before his heart problems was fantasic. He won the treble etc & made good signings mainly. The 2nd half, after his heart problem was poor but was that really any suprise? The guy had serious problemss for goodness sake.
2. He is now over his health problems so surely we would be getting more of an "early period" liverpool manager which would be awesome.
3. His age for me is a bonus as he will need every ounce of experience coming into this particular situation. Also he will be the perfect guy for KM to learn from at close quarters.
4. His style in the way he likes setting up strong foundations for youth development etc would seem to be perfect for us.
5. He's a proven winner which none of the other candidates are. Neither are Moyes or Jol in the Premiership.
6. His style of play would suggest he would be able to utilise the current squad to it's full capacity.
^^^This. Hughes spent shit loads at Citeh and won sweet FA. Moyes spent quite a bit of money at Everton and won sweet FA. Jol spent money at Spuds and won sweet FA. Houllier spent money at Plop and won 5 trophies.
I'll reserve judgement before shouting my mouth off.
People say we want a name and he IS a name. People want experience and he HAS experience. People want someone who will buy from foreign markets and he WILL buy from foreign markets. Let's give the guy a chance. He has been more successful in the Prem than our dear old MON and he was supposedly the Messiah.

can't wait for the modern-day equivalent of igor biscan strutting his stuff at villa park.
I can't wait for the modern day eguivalent of Fred, Mahmadou Diarra, Toulalan strutting his stuff at VP.
Shit just noticed the spelling mistake. C'mon Cracker, sort this out old boy.

I don't think we will play dour boring football. Lyon played some decent stuff under GH and we have seen K Mac has a taste for attcking football keeping it mostly on the deck. So I think we won't be playing as much longball/sitting on a 1-0 lead like we did so often under MON. Does anyone have an idea how many games we were winning 1-0 only to be held to a draw in the final stages?
-
FFS we are appointing a Prem proven manager who has won things, BIG things and yet he isn't good enough. IMO he is exactly what we need at the moment. Someone who will utilise the squad that we have in a different way, someone that is willing to pick up bargain players from around the globe as well as promoting youth. Let's just enjoy the ride shall we becasue the last time I looked into a crystal ball, I couldn't see **** all apart from the table the otherside.

switzerland are at wembley on tuesday so lerner better get his arse to london and interveiw Ottmar Hitzfeld
Switzerland plays England at Basel's St. Jakob Park on Tuesday to begin its qualification for the 2012 European Championship.
This guy ain't the sharpest tool in the toolbox is he?
I see the NOTW are spouting the usual bollox again this morning. I've lost count of how many bullshit stories they have published this summer.
-
I hope he can really pick up a good relationship with Ash and Gabby. just watch the goals flow if he does.

Has anyone considered that we are getting Houllier who isn't fond of Carew and Staunton who probably isn't fond of Ireland. If Ireland gets put on the back burner, then Man Citeh have truely done us over and got Milner for £18m.
I spoke to Staunton over the summer in the Fox in shenstone and he was raving about how good Ireland was, and how upset he didnt want to carry on playing for the Republic...... so dont worry about that one
That is good to hear. If it is true, I'm not worried about Stan being a coach with K Mac. Deep down, we all loved him playing for us even though he went back to plop for a bit.
-
GH spent 80 million net in 5 years compared to MONs 90m in 4. He won an fa cup, league cup and uefa. Also finished top 4 more than once and one season 7 points off winning the league. Let's look at his positives and give him a chance hey?
^^^ This, This and This again!
-
What about his tactics at Lyon Bicks? Or do they not count? Did well in Champs League (including beating Madrid a couple times).
-
And one other thing, Houllier will se need to have a strong DM to cover the back 4 and will see that NRC will be that player for us until we can another.
Confirmed: Houllier is the new Villa manager

Isn't this always the case with Villa fans. We have some pathetic fans who would actually want to see us fail so that they can say 'Told you so!'.
