  1. I would like to see this too, if we sell Milner then I would be disappointed if we did not make a bid. That is a completely over the top comment on the RB situation. We have 2 decent RB's, I agree we should be looking at signing a better one but Young is not htat good and Cuellar is not that bad.
  2. Is that you, Fabio? Both are completely different to playing Gerrard/Lampard or Barry/Lampard, it is more a Kheidra/Schweinsteiger, all action pairing. Without a midfielder behind the striker to drop back when needed, I think it'd leave us too open in the middle. Milner runs off to help the wing and leaves the centre of midfield completely open. If we had another midfielder doing that then people would just walk through the centre circle unchallenged. Although I do like KPB and think he could be utilised well at Villa. You could be right, and you are using perfect logic that I agree with, however I think Milner will improve further as I feel he is a very willing learner, so with a bit more teaching and and the two of them creating a partnership I think it could work. I think it would make us a more entertaining team too, teams who use these holding players tend to be pretty boring.
  3. You been listening to John Giles. All he keeps saying is holding role is a myth I saw him after the Germany game but I have always hated it, the "Makelele role" thing always got to me and I hate Mascherano because of how he is now seen as a good player because he runs around a lot and consistently fouls people. You can train a monkey to do his job whereas to be a proper footballer you need some natural talent. Giles' reason that 30 years ago you didn't need a def mid doesn't hold too well imo because the game has evolved. I think Germany showed how well you can do with a team of players willing to do every job, their movement was unpredictable and constant whereas if only one player would ever go forward it is easier to track. As I said , I would like to see it given a go.

  5. I would like to see KPB and Milner in the middle, with Ash and Ireland out wide. I'm not saying it would definitely work but both are athletic players who will cover a lot of ground and are not afraid to put in a tackle, I would like it to be given a chance. Get rid of this stupid designated def mid!
  6. I'm liking the negative response to Cole. I would not want him at Villa if he was on 30k a week. A complete luxury player these days, I'd rather see Albrighton given a step up than Cole.
  7. I would hate if we got some super rich owners. Randy is perfect.
  8. I used to like City, loads of young talent coming through, some great years and some awful years in recent times, entertaining and honest. But since the money came it is as if that is now their personality, they now market themselves as a big wad of cash! When they are interested in a player their only angle is "we will give them more money than any other team will" and they are so aggressive in doing so. I'm not having go at any City fan but to me that is really sad for a club that used to be so much more. I know money is a huge part of the game now but I would hate for Villa to down a similar route, I know we now have Randy with a good bit of money and I am delighted with it but we have retained what we are all about under his ownership all while progressing on the pitch. Not really sure what my point is, other than love what Randy is doing at the club...
  9. If we are signing any City midfielder to play in a 4-5-1 formation I want Ireland. Petrov holding, Milner leg work, and Ireland with the brain. Remember when he came on against us last season? He changed the game for City, he would be great at a team that appreciated his talents! Ireland (or a player of the same mould) and a striker (Rodallega or similar) are the most important signings for us this summer I think. Those 2 players will give us so many options. I believe we will spend money and I am very confident of another good window. I hate the lack of links but that is how MON works, remember when we signed Cuellar? No links, just signed.
  10. Is it just me or do most Portuguese players move for huge sums of money? Deco, Bosingwa, Carvalho, Danny, Ferriera, Nani, Pepe. They are just off the top of my head, I reckon that LB would cost a lost of wonga!
  11. We need 5 if Milner stays. 1 ST, 2 MID, 1 RB, 1 LB cover. I am confident of a good window.
  12. Spot on SGC. We have a model and a plan and will continue with it. That plan might be to have a solid core of experienced british based players at low risk and then look to add some gambles, this is what I think it is. Could be that MON doesn't want to talk to any foreigners either but I highly doubt that. He has shown he is an intelligent and determined man so he would not rule out such a catchment area of the rest of the world!! I guess it could be one of those repetitive jokes that forums are rife with, unfortunately I don't get those jokes.
  13. Speaking of right backs, the South Korean one, Duri(??), looked a decent player in the 2 games I saw him play in. Loves getting forward and isn't scared of trying something different when he is up there. I can't really remember how he was defensively but that probably means he was OK.
  14. Sorensen was at fault for Honda's freekick. It was an unforgiveable mistake from a keeper of such experience and talent. All Honda did was hit the target, it was not a good freekick. Second one was much better, maybe the wall was poorly positioned but I can't say for sure. Honda looks a good player, no question. But I would prefer Doyle or Rodallega to him, they are settled and have shown that they are quality in the PL.
  15. Exactly. We haven't signed anyone from abroad because MON did not see the value, not because we have not looked. As for for Joe Cole...no, just no. He could be on 30k and I still wouldn't take him. If Spurs sign him on loads of money it will be a good thing for us as they will probably play him more than he warrants.
  16. Fair enough, you want to sell him on our terms. If Milner said tomorrow that wants to stay with us there would be no discussion, we keep him and all is well. However if he decides he wants to leave we must get truck load of cash for him! I think one of the 2 above will happen. I would be really happy with the first one and content with the second.
  17. That makes sense but on the other hand we would be selling our best player after him putting in 1 really good season. We need to put up a big fight to keep our best players, if we don't we send out a terrible message to the fans, investors and other clubs.
  18. I can see it being another inspired summer. We will have an extra bit of firepower for next season and I can't wait to see who.
  19. I too want to sell Heskey but I also want to say that he was a fantastic player to watch when on form. A perfect mix of power, pace, strength, and a ridiculous ability to keep the ball near him. I love him but he can leave now!
  20. Sound logic. But it is City, their owners probably think the difference between 7 and 12 million pounds is negligible. Also they sold Dunne for £6m.
  21. It would set us up well with young, promising players with premiership experience. My point was that we could still have a great window with only 'MON type' signings. I don't understand peoples need for some foreign, I love a fancy signing as much as the next guy and I would be giddy if we signed someone whose name ended in ...inho but they are not necessarily what we need. I could well be. I remember some story reporting a fee of £6m but I would put his value around £10m. Quality player.
  22. I'm finding it hard to believe we could afford all those players. Some rough guesses: Out: Heskey £2.5m, Sidwell £4m, Shorey £2m, Beye £1.5m, L Young £4m. £14m in. In: -Richards would cost at least £6m -Doyle and Rodallega are the best players in their respective teams and Doyle would probably cost around £12m and Rodallega would cost more towards £15m -Ireland would be a bargain at £12m -Parker is the best player in the West Ham side, so he wouldn't be cheap. I'd guess they'd ask for at least £10m (probably more). Randy would have to put forward about £25m-£30m. Unless we're counting the sale of Milner. I think we'll see 3 signings this summer. A right back, a forward and a midfielder. Putting the money issue aside would you agree that if this happened it would be a good window? You are right though I made a mistake adding up the prices. In my mind, Richards 7m, Ireland 7m(as he wants out), Doyle/Rod 12m, Parker 8m. That is 34m. So selling about 10m worth Randy would be spending 20-25m.
  23. I've looked around for the correct fee but can't find one. It said that Blackburn rejected a 4 million bid. If he cost 6 million I think he was a good signing but not a bargain. I was using him as an example of MON being good in the transfer market.
  24. .....all of whom would want to start every week....and probably wouldnt.....so we'd be in the same position next summer... Everyone wants to start every week. If we sign a player that doesn't want to start every week I will join the 'MON out' brigade because that is unacceptable.
