I think another 7 points could give us 4th and I know Newcastle would prefer to be in our position rather than their own. You can never write off that Manchester lot, but they won't win all of their remaining games, which they would have to do, if we can somehow get those 7 points. I think that Spurs could well lose their next 3 games and Newcastle will hopefully be sobbing on the Tyne again. We just need to find it in us, to get those 7 points and the sooner the better, but I suspect that it may go to the last game.

    Lol you don't say

Unless Arsenal and City win in the week, in which case Spurs become of no real concern to us whatsoever.

Well, it'd still be quite nice to finish 4th but yeah, if that happened then you can all but close this thread down and relax as far as the league's concerned.

I have some fears of holding on to 5th, but they reduce slightly as the games run out.

However, that's nothing to with irrational fears, but the fact we have six games left, two of which we're strong favourites to lose and two of which are incredibly tricky (rejuvenated Chelsea and Brighton away) meaning our two 'bankers' of Bournemouth and Palace (A) have a lot of increased pressure on them.

Add to that suspensions, injuries, a lack of form and the fact we've no experience in this situation, I'm uneasy crowing that we've got 5th or above in the bag so confidently as others. A win against Bournemouth may change that with a few other favourable results. It's not a sleight on Emery to suggest we may struggle to hold fifth, it's a culmination of the situation you can find yourself in this part of the season when you're a smaller team in terms of squad depth and experience. We're looking good for it at the moment... But not enough to be shouting 'ole' with every pass.

But with 5th now looking incredibly shaky for CL anyway, it may well be irrelevant. 5th or 6th wouldn't make much of a difference. It'd be fourth or nothing and that looks tricky, despite both us and Spurs stuttering, as they have the healthier squad, the experience, the game in hand and no European distractions.

Suppose most of this will be clear one way or the other in the next 10 days.

Assuming Man United lose today, the chances of us finishing below 5th are very very slim.

The chances of 5th not being a CL spot however are far far higher. Arsenal's game against Bayern Munich is far more important than any league game featuring other teams now.

    Recommence celebration.

No, this is bad for us because Bournemouth could catch us and also it'll give them confidence for their game against us next weekend everything is terrible 4th is over liquidate the club.

Came on to see if that result would have calmed people down, to find out that now people think Newcastle will finish ahead of us 😂😂

I can’t believe this website is free

It's why I've kept the quote in my signature for so long. It must've been said like 12 years ago yet it's still just as true today.

How did we lose4-0 to this lot? They're shit away.

    I could probably understand a 1-0 loss, but 4???

A mixture of things really. Sending off obviously played a huge part too.

Newcastle have got 13 points from their last 6 games… that’s some form…

And if they got 13 points from their next 6 games we'd need only a win and a draw to finish ahead of them.

    They're not a serious threat.

At what point does the thread go from being happy with Newcastle battering Spurs... to being worried about Newcastle overtaking us 🤔

    😂

Tomorrow if we lose to Arsenal. Even though most expect us to lose to Arsenal away anyway, this place will go into full panic mode and there will be predictions of us finishing 8th.

Newcastle above United and 10 behind us ,may be a bigger concern than United given they have easy games v Shef United and Burnley coming up.

    Spurs have been very poor.

Newcastle are 10 points behind us if they win this with 6 games to go (same as us). Even if we get only say 4 points from our last 6 games, which is a significant drop-off in form even compared to the last 5 where we've only won 1, they'd still probably need to win 5 of their last 6 games.

    Come on.

  10. I almost don't like watching him play so well, because the simple fact is that *whoever* replaces him whenever he does go/retire will be nowhere near as good. He's arguably one of the top 10 goalkeepers of all time, at least in terms of ability.

OK, but Chelsea & Man City are way ahead at the top of the agents' fees league

Exactly. Man City in 2nd spent almost as much on agents as 3rd and 4th combined.

I know there was a lot of talk about United catching us and they would have to an achieve championship winning form and how we would have to drop to relegation from. Well the latter is happening and will probably continue on Sunday. We are averaging 1ppg in the last 5 and not looking like we will pick up too much from there. That should be more than enough to get to 66 points and see off United easily but unless Spurs implode I just don’t see how we get 4th. I imagine we finish 6 points short.

I agree in that I also think we'll finish a few points off Spurs but "relegation form" is a bit of an exaggeration. Sure we've only taken 5 points from our last 5 games but we literally won 3 on the bounce right before those 5. It's also worth pointing out that in the last 5 games Man United have taken the exact same number of points as us, and they're fast running out of games.

  13. Was sat in the middle of the Trinity last night so had a clear view of Unai and noticed that when we were 1-0 up in the first half and having a few chances (but not converting them) he just looked really pissed off and agitated, despite the crowd at the time being in good spirits. You really get the sense that he's genuinely not happy unless we're about 4 or 5 goals up.
