  1. I don't know how I'd feel about this Doyen group, if the rumour turned out to be more than that. They seem to have plans in place and obviously some knowledge/contacts regarding promising players, however, would they buy a team to make them a success, or just to make a profit?

I guess their obvious goal would be to make a profit, but they partially own some top young talent that would improve us, Leandro Damiao and Luc Castagnios would be more than welcome to join Villa for example.

Remember this all stems from Tevfik Eren apparently wanting to buy a club in the Premier League, I'm just stringing together the pieces of info regarding him and the sports arm of the Doyen Group that he financially backs/owns.

The only profit possible is when they sell

Not necessarily. There are two other profits streams available -

    1) The good one. We win things, we earn prize money, we sell more merchandise. Profit.

    2) The bad one. They leverage their current business model by owning Villa as a separate organisation who then borrows money from the parent organisation in order to sign players who are represented by the parent organisation. This means that THEY would make profit, but Villa would potentially be in a precarious position.

Fair enough but to win things you have to seriously spend money and that brings the profit down if there is any at all. It's one thing getting for 6th and a whole other game getting to 1st

  3. I hope I'm wrong on this one, but this is my theory anyway:

I suspect that Randy has got sick of all the pelters he's been getting about being an awful owner. Lots of fans saying that he should bugger off and sell us to a billionaire.

He knew it would be inevitable that many would be calling for Paul Lamberts head after such a dissapointing season. He would be put under pressure to get rid of the manager when the he had done nothing wrong in his eyes. Remember the restrictions the manager has been working within regards players salaries etc. It's no wonder many of the players are struggling. Quality players play consistently well, that is the big difference with many of our players. They have their good games but more bad than good.

This I believe is Randy Lerner saying " OK, lets see who will come in and is prepared to pay £200 million for the club and then invest millions with no realsitic chance of getting that money back".

It's time to wake up and smell the coffee, this is the real world and the Oligaths and Shelks are few and far between. We could be lucky, but as sad as it sounds this is a wake up call to where we are. A club that is operating on a budget and any progress will be slow.

A lot people seized on the fact that his statement had an element of 'goodbye' in it - with a sale starting to look some way off - I'm just wondering has he washed his hands of us ? - Like the Randy Lerner years were 2006-2014 - Whatever happens now isn't on his watch. Also looking at the prices that championship clubs go for, why would pay £200m for Aston Villa.

I know Reading have debts which need to be paid - but the bidding price is £1 !!!!1 - buy that ...£30m on players - would give you a decent crack at promotion - perhaps another £40 to keep them in the prem. Where as Aston Villa is £200m - £30m to stay in the prem - perhaps £70-80m to make us competitive.

It would seem to me the value for money thing to do is to buy an ailing championship club..

Talking of FFP. Are PSG immune to the rules?

Nope got fined the same as man city, qpr fined even more

  5. I actually think the media reaction to the latest council elect results is the most biased reporting of an election I've ever seen in a UK election. Lets examine some facts as portrayed in the media

Labour did badly. Did they? Overall gains of some 330 seats. They now have 5 more councils than previously and took some previously Tory councils to no overall control.

UKIP did well. Did they? They won less seats than even the Lib Dems managed and the Lib Dems might as well be lead by Fred West right now, he'd be no less popular than Clegg. Their share of the vote decreased from 22% last time to 17% this time at an election that was at the same time as the Euro elections so you'd think they'd be in a fine position to take advantage of this but no, their % percentage of the vote went down by 5% of the overall vote, they control zero councils and any chance of power they have will be as minor coalition partners in Tory dominated No Overall control councils

Only London rejected UKIP. Really? Won Zero seats in Liverpool, Manchester, Preston, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and plenty of other places, I think they won one seat in the West Midlands. I think London elected more kippers than those places

UKIP are as much of as threat to Labour as the Tories, where on earth does the basis of that insidious load of testes come from? It bears no analysis whatsoever

And what about the Greens? They reinforced the council they run in Brighton, won more seats elsewhere and are even the official opposition in Liverpool and a few other places, yet they are totally ignored?

To be honest the media reaction across the board from left to right, from Murdoch and Rothermere to the Guardian, has been the biggest load of crap I've ever read, it has no basis in truth. It doesn't stand up to any analysis

Don't believe a word you read in the papers, when they can spin election results so that people think the opposite happened then you know this country is up the creek without a paddle

That was the biggest load of crap I've read

  6. Just musing.......

If you were Randy Lerner why would you say nothing about the status of the sale ?

    1. You really feel it is not the fans business and you dont even consider they should be kept informed.

    2. You do feel they should be kept informed.

I personally think (1) is unlikely, so plump for (2).

If it is (2) why have we heard nothing..?

    1. Nothing is happening and he doesn't think it would help us to be told nothing is happening

    2. Something is happening but he does not consider it substantial enough to report, or the reporting of it may itself be damaging, or he is required not to report it - by other parties, or rules.....#

Now I have a fault of trying to be too positive, but I do feel that (1) is less likely. After all, if you are the Club and there is nothing happening, isn't it obvious it would help keep people onside if you told them so.....yes they may be down about it but the more you told them of the efforts and the plans the better ? I accept the possibility that people just don';t think that way but I think they would.

So, from a backwards sort of logic, the only time we would hear nothing at all, is when there was something !!

definitely 1 although I would give a vague update if there is a few bidders
  7. Well BJ/Trent lets go macro economics...... yea lets not.

Fact of the matter is he is about 100m down, he hasn't taken money out of the club and he certainly wont make that money back in the next year therefore he hasn't made money out of the club/isn't trying to make money out of the club whichever way you want to spin it.

What I said before in the last post is correct and based off the accounts.

Simple, I don't go back on a word of it, even if Trent disagrees.

I'm surprised you still jump to his defence after he made you believe cut backs and the club you support being terrible was all part of a plan to build a new ambitious team and go again.
That is what is happening though, just it will be with new owners and not RL. Had to happen either way, maybe not so quickly and with such drastic cuts, but it had to happen.

Whether the new investment in order to take us forward after the underperforming overpaid squad has been dismantled and moved on comes from RL or a new owner takes nothing away from the fact that they needed dismantling and moving on.

So how come the view that he was surviving on the cheap until sold was shouted down so much for the past two years?

You know I'm constantly seeing you post things like "why did people say that" or "why did people say this" - I really don't know what you're expecting people to say to you.

You were right all along BJ10, everybody else was wrong.

Lol beat post of the week

  8. No I wouldn't it is harder to find a defensive midfielder that can play with the ball than it is to find a DECENT attacking midfielder as that is all he is.

Yet we have struggled to get one for the last few yrs??

For me delph is clearly our best midfielder, but he is jack of all trades master of none. At times he can dribble well but then others his touch is poor, his passing is either good or terrible. Tackling he either wins the ball or gets booked.

Holtby is a different kind if footballer. He is good on the ball and can pick a pass. Was very rated at youth level captaining various German international sides. He would be great for us on my eyes

Yes we have struggled and not one part of that has been his fault
Please read my post and don't try to start a nothing argument. Where have I said we struggled because of Delph? I merely said that delph can do everything but not at a high standard. You said that getting a defensive midfielder is easier than getting an Am, I said we have struggled to get an Am for the last few yrs.
    i said the opposite
