It's gonna take a lot more seasons consistently getting into those places to establish itself as Spurs did in 2010s, including few CL qualifications, hopefully first on the way. Of course the revenue gap will likely hold and big 6 will still be hard to catch up, but that's why I said decade :D

You asked if this season was a blip in us being top 8. I just pointed out thay we did ot last year as well.

We will be top 8 again next season I'm sure.

  2. I said 6 months ago when they were struggling that they will be around the top 4 next season and I stand by that.

If the season was longer they wouldn't be far of THIS year, despite an atrocious start. They have some very good players and a f*** ton of money.

Even with FFP, they are looking strong for a challenge next year.

I wonder if 10 years from now we will look back at this season as a breakthrough in an era that has become to be known as the "Big Top 8" (hard not to see Newcastle in there with their state backed resources) or was it just a successful blip for us. Hoping for the former 🙂

We were in the top 8 last season as well. We finished 7th.

The last day will be irrelevant I think. If we win against Liverpool it's over. If we didn't and Spurs beat City I think it's over in their favour.

If we draw with Liverpool and Spurs beat Man City, we would only need a draw at Palace and they would need to win so it would still be in our favour.

I just dont think its throwing the game to let a fee that are too tired to be effective be replaced by skilled and motivated players that were on the bench and played in greece.   I would rather be more sure of 4th and think palace is the much greater likelihood of a win.

you can disagree, thate quire reasonable.  but i think you mischaracterized my thinking

We have 2 games. We may need to win ONE of them. We cannot afford to give up on one of those games and put all our eggs in one basket. That is just crazy.

Especially as Palace are the form team in the league outside the top 2.

Plus there is a reason those bench players aren't playing despite the 1st 11 being shattered. It's because Emery doesn't believe they aren't good enough and I absolutely agree.

I cant see spurs beating city. And i cant us losing to palace.   I might start a couple kids v pool to give a few some rest.  And i would be worrying about the summer when we need to upgrade several positions and build depth.

On the night when we can qualify for the CL, in our final home match of an amazing season, you would throw the game?

This thread has officially lost the plot.

We paid quite a lot for Duran, it would have to be a big fee to sell him for

    He is not worth £30mil.

I still have no idea what people see.in him. I'd accept £20mil with add ons if any club was willing to pay it.

He won't be here next season in any case.

If Fiorentina **** this up two years running I am going to be livid. I suppose at least Villa not getting through means I won't have to follow through on the frankly insane notion I was having of paying whatever it took to get to the final.

Who gives a shit about this competition now? I have never watched or cared about a single non Villa game in this tournament and I certainly am not about to start now.

The ECL is dead to me. Long live the CL!

Hummel have quietly gone about doing some good work over the last few years and were money not ultimately (regrettably) the deciding factor, would have been my first pick for kit manufacturer.

Hummel have produced our best kits imo. The 88/89 away kit (the original with the chevrons, not the crappy imitation on sale now) is the most beautiful kit we have ever had.

The 89/90 kits were also amazing.

Duran Lenglet Iroegbunam Chambers are there to step in. I doubt we would see Kesler-Hayden or Kellyman from the start, but they'll probably feature in the 2nd half.

If even one of those players starts, we are in serious trouble. Not one of them is remotely good enough.

We really need this season to end or we will be fielding thr under 9's before long.

I said something a few pages back that I hope they don’t rest on their laurels if Manure beat Arsenal then City beating Fulham knowing they’d win the title at home on the final day.

I was talking in hypotheticals and expect people to blow a pooper valve over it.

I was replying to the notion that "aparrently they will be a happy with a draw".

As that is just nonsense given no players have actually said that.

It wasn't your post I was responding too.

Who said that? Complete nonsense. That's how games are lost

Yeah I'd like to know which of the Man C115y players said that. I'm sure their manager would like to know too, so he could drop them from the squad.

In all seriousness though, why would anything fans say have any relevance on how professional footballers perform?

Who cares if a few of their fans have said they would take a draw? It has absolutely zero impact on the game.

People do like to chat some utter bullshit at times.

  13. If we were at full strength, with no tiredness and A 2-0 LEAD, I would still expect to be shafted by the officials and go out tomorrow.

Fact is we are 2 goals DOWN, absolutely shattered and down to the bare bones. The dodgy ref won't even be needed for them but he is there just in case we happen to try and pull off a miracle.

I'd rather Brugge in the final, they are in a close title fight and would play big local derby few days before final that likely will be title decider. Though their form is outstanding at least they'd be more tired than us coming into the final, plus nicer for smaller nation to win the trophy.

Yeah I'd much prefer Brugge to win the final but they will have the same issue with bent officials as us sadly.

They will be playing the final in Athens (if they win tonight) and the game will be fixed well beyond their control.

Can't imagine a world in which Olympiacos dont win the thing now.

At our best I agree, but at this stage of the season I don't think we can match their energy. Maybe we've got injury excuses etc. but I don't think we are quite there physically/mentally for whatever reason.

They are 5th in the league. We are 4th.
