Ings can’t play up top alone the same way Ollie does imo, and we also don’t create chances for him

My point is this - can he really be any worse than Watkins? Ings may not be as nimble as Watkins, but he is not lazy.

I agree when you say that we don’t create chances - If we could Morph them into each other, imagine what a player?

  2. I would be more than happy to see Thomas Frank given a go?

I enjoy watching Brentford play, he seems forward thinking and quite clearly can develop players - you only have to look at how Toney has improved in a short space of time.

Ings can’t play alone up top, he’s hardly done it in his career either. If we play only one striker it has to be Watkins.

I still quite like us playing two up top though.

Why not ? He can’t do any worse than Watkins -,let’s be fair, despite all of Watkins bluster exactly what does he achieve ?
what do we have to lose by giving Ings a run in the team - I think you might have a pleasant surprise in store and I feel sure that his goal return will trump Watkins. I am not saying he is a long term solution for us, I just think he is our best option right now.

I think the big issue is we don’t create chances for him. Or Ings. Good luck to Ings yesterday dealing with those hoofs up towards Southampton’s centre backs. Ings would end up dropping back to get the ball and leave us even more ineffective up top

I agree with plenty of what you say here - for me Watkins has had more than his fair share of chances and failed to deliver.

I think it’s time to give Ings the same level of opportunity and an extended run in the team.

it’s impossible to gain any sort of momentum or build confidence when you are in for one and then out for the next 3/4.

He plays knowing that unless he scores, most likely he will be dropped - this cannot be how any striker operates successfully surely?

Got bullied by a child, he physically needs to get himself together, way too easy to push him off the ball, anyone who thought he was ok is deluded

I agree - this guy is made of glass and has an overrated view of his own worth - he needs to wind his neck in, grow a pair and get on with it.

    Yeah that's where I'm at.

Meh but not hyperbolic yet 😂

JV - that’s possibly because he was a great footballer - we were all hoping this might translate onto the management aspect of the game - unfortunately it has not - he is seriously out of his depth at the moment. This will most likely change over the course of time, but in reality it was a huge mistake to replace Deano with Gerrard

I agree with you on almost everything @Tomaszk, you know that!

But on this one, I’m sorry, this idea that Buendia is a great player and ‘our best player’ just doesn’t fit what I’m seeing on the pitch.

He loses the ball way too often to play centrally and he doesn’t have the pace or strength to play out wide.

He’s capable of the sublime, and by that, I mean his ability to pick a defence splitting pass is excellent, but he just gets caught in possession so often.

Right now, if I had to pick 2 of Bailey, Coutinho and Buendia, Buendia would be my last pick.

I’d be very interested in what you think Bailey has done in a Villa shirt to bring you to this conclusion ? I think he has been a complete waste of money - he is made of glass and for most parts has been anonymous at best.

There is absolutely no way he gets in ahead of Emi in my opinion.

If he signs for arteta at arsenal then everyone has a very different opinion of him I think, he made the wrong decision coming here

I agree and he probably thinks the same too

Exactly my thoughts. In the above scenario, we may very well put the feelers out for Southgate; the Gerrard appointment proves we're cable of such high-risk low-reward thinking, which would almost certainly be the case with Southgate, but there's no way he'd come to us. He's clearly a smart bloke, unlike Bruce or McLeish, say, who recklessly thought let's give it a try, and he knows where his bread is buttered.

I agree with the bit about Bruce, deluded and egotistical - not so sure about McLeish always thought of him as a man of good character and if Aston Villa come knocking it would be hard to look the other way.

It’s just a shame he is not a great manager, come to think of it, he wasn’t much of a player either - I still have time for him as a proper football man

I think people might be missing that, he may have wanted to go himself, for regular football as first choice.

I concur with others that he is more than good enough for the squad and a wildcard, but I feel he leans towards the side of a " luxury player " for most battles in the Prem.

So he's in that awkward position where he is too good for the bench, but also not the right player for 90 mins week in week out in a slog in the PL.

Bare in mind he also had injuries for periods, he wasn't simply " frozen out " IMO.

But equally JV he wasn’t afforded minutes when he was fit to prove his worth

That strike by AEG was phenomenal. Absolutely perfectly struck.

Jack's reaction after Watkins' "control" shortly before was also perfect.

Traorè, what a shame we've seemingly got a clown for manager.

Totally agree - we all know Bertie’s weakness, but we also know what a mercurial genius he is too - why would you not want this in your locker ?

He looked very active and energetic in those clips.

Wonder if that's partially due to having more space/time in that League, or very good movement by the team he's at?

Looks liked swarming breakaways with him bursting forward into space.

Ridiculous JV that he no longer wears our colours - The guy is a magician and could have been a brilliant impact player

Said it in a different thread, but it’s Salifou Syndrome. Same is happening with Sanson. The longer they don’t play the better they become in fans’ minds.

Guilbert wasn’t good enough. If he’s being treated badly then that’s a shame, but it doesn’t suddenly mean Ed good enough to be playing

Not sure you can mention Sansom in this context - none of us have seen him play enough minutes to make this judgement - anyway sorry, back to this thread.

You’re right we haven’t seen anything terrible or brilliant about him, because we’ve barely seen anything of him at all.

Given that we’ve struggled in midfield for far too long now, you would think we would have seen enough of him by now to at least form a reasonable opinion. However since this has been the case under two successive managers there must be something holding back his game time to this extent. I think there’s been some injuries but nothing for his seemingly constant place on the bench. Are there attitude problems that we just don’t know about?

I’m not sure if you can include Dean’s tenure, given Sansom was injured for most of this time, as for attitude, is there a source for this ? Or did the Man Utd substitution create an urban myth?
Given our position - you would have thought Gerrard might consider all options !

Weiman is still doing a good job at Brissol City....

Don’t think he was ever really good enough - bit  like that other plonker - all speed, but rarely had the ball under control, and would readily bounce off him. Credit where it’s due though, very good work ethic

    good picture as well

He barely gets a game man, and when he does it’s the shitty dregs at the end of the game or in weak cup sides. You can only use the eye judgement on him and he looks a capable player who could be good with a run of games and in the right system.

Completely agree - like Buendia, he is a fall guy but x 5.

I would love to see him given a prolonged run in the team say 7-8 games, I honestly believe he would make the shirt his own if so.

    They finished 8th last season?

They are in poor form like us, who knows what happens, when it changes.

Its hard, to just predict, absolute outcomes, surely you have seen this so far , this season, some bizarre results.

I would guess many teams down the bottom will recover....its just a start, thats all it is.

Arsenal lost the first 4 last season, and experienced a fall out like ours.....they recovered form and finished 5th......I'll bet you would take that, wouldn't you.

    Have faith man.

I’m afraid TRO in our current circumstances and their own predicament a draw isn’t good enough and will do very little to help our current trajectory and mindset.

This doesn’t mean that I think we will win - I don’t, but all things considered a draw is not enough.

Maybe if you want Gerrard gone at all costs - it will fuel your fire further maybe?

I do want him gone asap but not at the price of losing the game.

    Best finisher at the club

Are you sure about this ? I would say this accolade belongs to Danny ings - sure Leon will score us some worldys from time to time, but given the right service - in my humble opinion Danny ings is our best goal poacher

How are our stats worse when they are bottom of the League and we aren't?

People also need to stop this childish shite.

Are you all genuinely upset that we got a result yesterday and people are happy about it?

Leicester just got pumped by Brighton. " Because we got a point against City, you make it sound like a City of the Norwich or Birmingham variety " lol

What's more important, Villa doing well or your feelings towards Gerrard?

    I don't get it.

" Gerrard is untouchable " how in the f*ck have you surmised that from people being positive about a positive result?

Are we meant to all be moaning non stop again?

What do you actually want here?

Some of you must legit feed off of negativity, in general.

There are a lot of people JV who simply want to see the back of Gerrard, fearing the man cannot take us forward - and the truth of this, is that some people are willing to accept some short term pain, in the hopes of a longer term gain, and if this means swallowing a couple of defeats in order to force the club to remove Gerrard, then I do believe that some, will see this as a price worth paying.
