The random hatred he gets is ridiculous.

Is it really hatred ? I think not - for me it’s just a general apathy about our set pieces and the fact, we have a so called expert overseeing this aspect of the game and we see very little at all to get excited about 🤷‍♂️

I'm convinced the people defending him don't actually watch us play. There's no way you could sit through our corners and free-kick routines and still think this guy is worth hanging on to.

The shit I've seen is not worth the time wasted on the training ground, these players could definitely spontaneously come up with better all by themselves without wasting a coaching salary on this lad.

Our most effective set piece routine has been Dougie scoring or trying to score from a corner. In terms of concept, not exactly rocket science is it; in terms of execution, a player either has the finesse or does not.

My point exactly I’d wager most clubs have players capable of scoring directly from a corner kick - I’d be astonished if a set piece coach was drilling this imo

I'm sorry but that's nonsense. Essentially players don't need coaching for anything then. Shooting, passing, free kicks

With all due respect to you - that is also non sensical a good professional footballer will have the innate skill to score directly from a corner kick.

Yes clearly with practice they will get better and more accurate, but what on earth would a set piece coach role be in this? Would a player not be able to practice this skill on their own?

No disrespect mate but that sounds very much like ‘if we don’t score the set piece coach is shit, if we do score it’s only because of the players’

Bu that logic can we use the same reasoning for everyone at a football club, even the manager?

With respect I was focussing on corners - and the fact that a player does not need any coaching to score directly from a corner kick - As for the rest of our set pieces, i for one find us just very average tbh

  5. Personally I can’t see what he does that sets him apart from other coaches? We look pretty average from set pieces to me, and with reference to scoring from a corner - isn’t this more about a player, than a coach ?

I'm a big fan of having 'club appointed coaches'. We need to build an infrastructure and some consistency is nice.

Whilst I'm delighted we have Emery and he should be allowed to bring in any number of people to his staff I'd like Danks to keep his role.

Personally I would be more than happy with a total clear out.

This current mob of back room staff are part of the problem and not the solution imo.

Not saying all of them are bad at what they do - but unfortunately for them, they are tarred with Gerrard’s brush and I feel a complete reset would be in everyone’s interest imo

Gabby was really good at one point.

Gabby was never any good - his pace masked his total inability.

I can say without any doubt he is one of the most tactically inept footballers I have ever witnessed.

The fact he down tools when we were in our hour of need tells you all you need to know.

The guy is a disgrace imo to Aston Villa. 80 odd goals in over 300 games is pathetic and this guy who has no self reflection thinks it makes him a Villa legend.

Gabby you are not and never will be

This is what I keep telling people. The odd clanger is nothing compared to consistently toothless midfield and attack. That's not to say we shouldn't strive to improve all areas but this fixation on Mings as a scapegoat is ludicrous. The captaincy was taken away from him for no reason other than SG wanting a different choice for choice sake. Ultimately this has contributed significantly to his downfall.

The problem is that the “ odd clanger” results in a goal. The odd clanger from say midfield or attack is not destined to end up in the back of the net.

I actually think that overall Mings has done well this season - but I do feel he will always have a mistake in him. This aside he has every attribute to be an international defender imo

Like I say, he has talent. Unfortunately, he’s still been a poor signing unless he can replicate todays performance more often.

    Still don’t think he’s quick!

And I still say Bertie is a better player

There was a brief shot of Gerrard looking dejected and Sanson was in the background kinda blankly watching the game - wasn’t very interesting a clip but it made me imagine him laughing at the situation on the inside

Agreed - I just saw a footballer who knew he wasn’t getting a game and looking totally non plussed about the whole sorry affair - can anyone hold this against him ??

if it was a season long loan agreed, then usually there is no recall option.

Well that sucks - thanks again slippy.

    thanks also for clarifying 👍🏻

I would have Traore over Bailey. Sending him out on loan made no sense other than a personal decision by the manager.

Absolutely this - clueless decision imo, Bertie is miles ahead of Bailey.

He's no better than Smith, you know that don't you? Brentford are ticking over because they have a top striker at the club.

Well you can’t say this with any real certainty can you ? I like the way Brentford approach games - I see similarities with Eddie Howe tbh. However your point about having a top striker is relevant, but that top striker might just find himself driving up the M1 in a couple of months ?

even he fulfilled parts of his remit from the hierarchy.....it just didn't meet ours.

    Another really nice personable guy.

I’d argue the remit part TRO - safe with 2 games to go if I remember correctly - but yes a decent guy.

Whoever it is will get my unequivical support, from day 1

I just hope we have a unified fanbase, to give him FULL support.

That really will depend upon the powers that be making an appropriate choice - Alex McLeish says Hi guys !”

He wasn't qualified for the job he will never be qualified for the job. There's not a single thing he did right at this football club. Even Bruce got stuff right.

    Tactics abysmal.

    Coaching non existent.

    In game subs horrendous.

    Intelligence none of it.

    Man management crap.

    Treating of squad members shit.

Creating an environment of competition within the squad zero.

    Signing players utter utter shit.

Releasing of players utter utter shit.

Squad building worse I've ever seen.

He's the worst manager this club has had. And it's not even close.

I don’t think he is the worst - I’d save that accolade for McNeil although it’s a rizla paper between them imo

Played mostly with his back to goal. His touch is really bad and so is the way he uses his weight and body to give him time and protect the ball.

    He's not a donkey. He's not.

He's sharp with decent instincts and scores goals and works hard.

Now let's supply the guy instead of using him like Andy Carroll.

His touch is very bad and instinctive ?  With all due respect I just don’t think he is - I don’t expect him to score these days and isn’t this the essence of an instinctive striker?

In fact if anything he goes to pieces in front of goal at the moment and scuffs the ball.

What I do acknowledge is that he is totally void of confidence and this might well change with the new manager - but the bigger picture will remain and that is, he is unfortunately a limited striker imo

  18. Utterly useless last night - how on earth did he become a professional footballer  based on that ?He has the same technical level that the previous fat useless number 11 had.

My only chink of optimism is that his confidence must be totally shot to pieces and maybe just maybe a new coach can get a tune out of him.

  19. My choice would be Franks and I believe it’s achievable - I don’t think MP is tbh.

I also think it’s time to let people who actually give a flying fig about the club to have a say in recruiting the next manager.

Goodness knows why we have the history of footballing novices making choices.

Bruce was a disaster the moment he walked in the door, anyone knowing a little bit about the game knew it would end badly, and time has subsequently proved what a bogus he is.

Dean is a little different for the obvious reasons - although you can’t argue at the time of appointment he represented a gamble, fortunately for both Dean and the club - he was a qualified success.

Gerrard - see Bruce, absolute disaster of an appointment and destined to end in disappointment.

Surely there are still enough footballing villans around the club to have a significant input into the decision making opposed to the business/marketing moguls who have no clue whatsoever.

Of the top of my head I am thinking of the likes of Brian, Ian, Peter and so forth - proper footballing men, who have the club and supporters best interests at heart ?
