So, this new "Luxury Tax" that's going to replace FFP/PSR is basically just going to allow the like to City/Newcastle/Chelsea to spend what they like, they just have to pay a "tax" to do so?  I suppose it doesn't really matter as we aren't going to catch City under current rules or this change, but allowing our owners to spend and not be restricted by FFP might let us catch the likes of Liverpool or Spurs, as they would no longer have the FFP shield to hide behind.

You assuming our owners would be OK with having to pump in £200m+ of their own money every season to "catch up" with Spurs and Liverpool.

Yes, they are rich, but they are not a charity. I would argue that even if silly spending was allowed, they wouldn't put in much more than they do already (or they would have never bothered buying the club, knowing that competing with state owned clubs is futile).

I’ve done a fair bit of reading on the Everton/Forest charges recently. One thing I seemed to notice is that both clubs were pre-warned by the Premier League they were likely to have breached PSR before the accounts deadline.

I’d imagine if Villa were in danger of breaching PSR there would already be some discussions between the Premier League and the club in terms of what the plan is?

Either way we will not find out until January anyway and probably when looking at how the club do business in summer but it was just a thought.

Maybe we did have discussions with Premier League already, they wouldn't be made public anyway.

I am giving up if that comes in. Absolute joke.

Mobilisation stopped the super league there needs to be mobilisation to stop this.

Pretty much the same system is already in place in uefa competitions. It's more than likely that Premier League will adopt something similar.

As usual, the devil is in the detail, so let's wait for all the details to emerge  before "giving up".

No there isn't, that's what's annoying. The one Chelsea got at the weekend, for example.

    Zero consistency.

There are exceptions obviously, but watching football over the years I heard this phrase hundreds of times: "anywhere else on the pitch, it's a foul"

Don't get me wrong for as interesting as he was at times the ref didn't do a fat lot wrong but that shoulder barge on konsa is so **** frustrating, it was shoulder to shoulder blade, it's a foul

That's the epitome of a challenge that is given at the other end and then is also given all of the over pitch several times afterwards

Yes, but it's seen very often that chalenges in the box seem to have higher threshold than outside of the box before the foul is given.

It's just in refs nature to be cautious about giving pens away.

Except our losses are not all PSR related losses. Evertons we know from their charges were above the PSR threshold already and now they've gotten worse.

These are accounts for last season, they are already being charged for last season, so there's nothing here that Premier League doesn't know already. And like ours, not all these losses are PSR related.

They will be docked 2-3 points as they were already punished for 2 out of 3 years this new charge is looking at (avoiding double jeopardy).

    Done for, surely?

We have lost £120m, yet we are not "done for" 😂

They will get another 2 points penalty, but they will still stay up, such is the level of teams below them. If they can find a decent buyer (not 777), they might still get out unscathed of the financial trouble (and with brand new stadium at that).

Fofana they got about 80 million for

Am guessing since they got relegated the Maddison/Barnes deals dont count for Premier League

They all count, doesn't matter if you relegated or not. The only difference is rhe amount of money you are allowed to loose in championship is smaller than in the Premier league

Something he hasnt done in 3 years. If was a player that was good 3 years ago but had no Villa connection would be uproar at the link

There was no uproar before Coutinho joined, rather the opposite. Most people were wetting their pants 😊

We may well find out next season. I just can't see how you don't play Mings, Konsa, and Pau. They're three of the best CBs in the league.

We don't know what sort of Mings comes back after the injury.

He is not a spring chicken and ACLs take their toll. He might be half the player he was before the injury.

I've a feeling we'll see some Comcast based company sponsorship to help with FFP. I mean their worth is around $170 BILLION so we're fine with FFP I reckon. Maybe a record training top deal, like manutd had DHL sponsor their training tops. Who knows, a European sponsor for kits in Europe to avoid the gambling thing in Europe. A cup competition sponsor and so on.

Comcast CEO loyalty is to Comcast share holders, he is not a Saudi Prince that can spend his money willy nilly.

They will do what makes commercial sense to them. Don't expect any over the market value deals from them.

Neither did Tim till we needed him, and looks like we need KKH now.

Tim didn't start any premier league games either.

Let's be honest, it's gonna be Konsa at the RB again.

Looks like it’s KKH turn, or Konsa back to RB.

KKH not even had a sniff off the bench so unlikely to start imo

The doubts would have been related to his injury record as he’d done both ACLs, not his ability. As already stated, if he meets the criteria, the purchase is mandatory.

I will eat my hat if he plays for us next season.

Most likely he will end up somewhere in Italy.

Promoted clubs have basically no chance if they aren't allowed to spend money that exceeds the income they can generate

No chance of what? Winning the league?

Brighton and Brentford managed to establish themselves in the league following promotion without breaking the rules.

There is no clarification on how many points are deducted for overspending, they're literally making it up as the go along.  Forest overspent more than Everton, yet their points deduction was less 🤷‍♂️

That was because of mitigations. Broadly speaking penalty goes up with the breach amount.

What's now stopping a club like Newcastle just saying, '**** it' and buying a City tier super squad, take a pathetic points deduction, finish mid table, then challenge for the title the following season?

    2 things:

    1. Penalty is depandant on how big the breach is. To buy City tier squad they would need to over spend massively and get massive penalty.

    2. FFP consequences would be with them for many seasons, while they pay these players their wages and amortisation, so they would get slammed with penalty not just one season but every year.

    In essence, this is nonsense.

If there is a compulsory purchase fee in the clause seems stupid we signed Rogers?

Compulsory upon certain criteria being met. For example if he makes X number of starts we have to buy him.

  20. 2 hours ago, duke313 said:

We've an obligation to buy if he meets certain criteria, the fee has already been agreed.

That could also explain why Emery doesn't start him anymore. He might be near his starts/minutes criteria that would force our hand to buy him.
