So you think Eze and Olise from Palace are out of reach for joint top Villa?

Thats the type of reasoning that has kept Villa ‘a sleeping giant’ for so many years.

It's more the cost, you basically demanded a spend of roughly £150m for 2 players which I don't think anyone believes are a true priority position for us, especially when we know we are close to FFP.

Can someone more intelligent than me tell me if 5th is definitely a CL spot? Because if it is, honestly, we should be playing CL football next season!

    Its undecided at the moment.

If we, Liverpool and Man City all go deep in our respective competitions then we will get the 5th spot

We're very fortunate our bad patch has coincided with poor results for other clubs around us, table could be looking much worse for us right now.

Have to kick on through the winter break and beyond though or we won't stay afloat.

Or its just an incredibly competitive league where these sort of results are relatively common

Tottenham’s attack is very good. They look shaky at the back but they always score goals. The danger is when Van de ven back and their defence looks good again.

Can't see him being the same defender, not at least this season.

Taken Bailey about 2 years to trust his Hamstring again

Against my better judgement I gave that a watch...content creators eh?!

Antonio been a solid player at prem level for many seasons but he's well past it now and injured so would be like us signing Drinkwater. Get the feeling one of the guys is West Ham fan and just wants payback for us dumping Ings on them 12 months ago.

Sorry I put you through that, I only watched the 30 seconds related to us 🤣

Wait, so Ollie Watkins clearly drinks water after a game, but John McGinn likes a strawberry Yazoo? 😁

This doesn't actually surprise me in the slightest 🤣

Probably would've been my second guess behind Irn Bru!

  7. Best attribute for me is that he goes both ways *Kenneth Williams GIF*

He can either cut in on his left and have a crack or get to the byline and pull it back, defender doesn't have a clue

Fine with him starting as long as it doesn’t get us any closer to that obligation to buy.

This is the key for me.

I have no issues with us being patient with players but at this stage I would be trying to avoid that obligation to buy clause considering how close we are on FFP.

Can’t see anything but him going out on loan or sold with a buy back clause now in January.  I think if it was anything else we would’ve seen a bit more of him even just more sub minutes.

has he not had a torrid time with injuries though?

Even with our more experienced players, they have been slowly eased in after a long lay off

    Excellent:
    Martinez
    Konsa
    Kamara
    Luiz
    McGinn

    Very Good:
    Torres (could easily be ‘excellent’)
    Mings
    Digne
    Watkins
    Diaby
    Bailey

    Good:
    Ramsey (perhaps a little harsh)
    Tielemans
    Cash
    Moreno (perhaps a little harsh)

    Average:
    Dendoncker
    Buendia
Duran (still young - will improve)
    Lenglet
    Carlos

    Rubbish:
    Zaniolo
    Traore
    Chambers
    Olsen

This is my current view of our squad. Probably missed a couple. We need to try and shift the rubbish in Jan/Summer as well as moving Dendoncker on too.

We need a right back most importantly. Konsa is a superb centre half and a good right back but I’d prefer him centrally. Cash isn’t favoured by Emery clearly.

you must be in a good mood!

I’d be ringing Roy Hodgson and inquiring asking price for both Eze & Olise? Then a quality RB to keep Konsa at CM.

Owners have to show that type of ambition to take advantage of Villa’s start to the season.

    The words fail me

It’s a no to Gallagher for me, England tax and all that jazz plus he’s not that great. Could see him at Palace/West Ham or similar.  I also don’t want us giving Chelsea any help at all.

Across Jan/Summer windows I’d opt for the below as I think they’d give us some flexibility to change things up tactically and also offer decent (quality) cover too. They’re  all really technical players too so I think they’d fit nicely into the Emery system .

    • Amine Gouiri - LM/LW/IF (Watkins cover)
    • Joey Veerman - CM (Luiz cover/comp)
    • Arthur Vermeeren - DM (Kamara cover/comp). 13m RC
    • Lutsharel Geertruida - RB (can also cover at DM and CB)

Get shot of Traore, Dendonker, Hause, Chambers, Coutinho and loan out Duran and Iroegbunam.

If we were in for Frimpong or any other more attacking RB options (Arnau Martinez perhaps) in the summer I’d look at moving Cash on as he’d be a decent saleable asset.

Lets hope the club shop doesn't run out of 'E's again!

No. I was pointing out that was a significant injury swing in that fixture and so it was contextually accurate as I was pointing out the fine marigins.

Your (rather tiresome and unoriginal) anaolgy misses the point entirely.

no more tiresome than consistent pessimistic and negative posts that certain posters love to perpetuate

Yes I think our squad has shown itself to be significantly worse than Spurs squad several times this season. (By that I mean that we have struggled pretty much every time we have had to make a few changes ie Mostar, Everton,  Sheff Utd.....)

We won at their place when they had about 6 players out and whilst it was a good win, we barely got over the line.

Had they had Maddison and Bentancur (they had many more out)! and we were missing Watkins and Luiz, I reckon we would have lost heavily.

But my main concern is that we rely solely on Watkins as a striker, due to having absolutely no quality back up.

Spurs are only 3 points behind us despite their ridiculous injury list and when they get the likes of Maddison back, they will push on.

They also have no Euro distraction.

I doubt Buendia coming back will have the same effect, and that's if he comes back this season at all.

I'd be delighted with 5th and it would show real progression. I cannot see us finishing any higher, but it's hard to see us finishing any lower either.

And if my auntie had bollocks she’d be my uncle

Nothing to do with the ref or VAR. It pains me greatly to see VAR or a poor ref blamed for an under par performance by Villa.

Villa didn’t really create a clear cut chance until the goal in extra time. Poor all over the pitch with the exception of McGinn who faded in the second half.

I stated in the pre match thread that previously games such as these with high expectations on Villa tend to turn into a banana skin.

At least Villa didn’t lose and Man U won’t sit in like Sheffield did but Villa badly need more creativity in midfield in January if they are to grab a CL placement.
