Starting to feel like having a well run club is a bit shit.

I want consistent, sporadic stupid links and will he/ won't he type transfer sagas for average players which run the length of the window.

What's Rubin De La Red up to these days?

With PSG needing to off-load Neymar before this Friday, otherwise they are obliged to offer him a 5 yr contract at £0.5m a week, guess who’s ready to step in if PSG let him go on a free !!

You're not breaking it to anyone, that's the reason we're getting annoyed because it is a very real possibility and it gives off the impression that everyone at the club is happy to continue finishing midtable which is where we'll finish if we go into next season with the current squad.

I personally feel we are sadly done for a couple of reasons: 1) Gerrard said he wanted his business done before preseason games started; and 2) there have been no decent links to anyone for at least a month.

The only thing giving me hope is Gerrard said that this summer window would be really exciting for the club (which would contradict what we have done so far) and the fact that we are usually very quiet about who we want so we may be doing a lot of stuff under the radar.

I'd give the window a 6/10 so far. Certainly not been bad at all as we have signed two quality players in positions we needed to improve, but we still haven't solved Luiz and Carney's contract situations, and need at least one more player to go into the first team (a box to box midfielder) especially if Luiz goes but even if he doesn't. If we were to sell Ings for example and bring in a striker better than Watkins that would improve the window even further and the icing on the cake would be another CB but I don't see this happening and think Mings will be given one more season. We have also only sold Trez, Targett and Kalinic so far and we still have El Ghazi, Davis, Hause (who's now bloomin injured so probably won't get sold) and others on the books. So a 6/10 feels about right.

It’s possible that’s exactly what the club wants everyone to think, that we are happy with what we have?  That’s what I’d do.  Forces the price up on the players you want out the door and down on those players you want in.  Lange is paid well to ensure no-one really knows what we are planning.  This bluff and double bluff can make or save millions in the transfer window.

Would imagine if he went to Madrid they would, they paid Bale £600k a week and he was at the tail end of his career. If you’re paying £200m,  the player and his agent know his worth.

Don’t think he stays at PSG unless their offer is significantly better than Madrid’s.

It’s a lot cheaper mate, for example Mbappe got £100m for signing his new PSG contract, I’m guessing this was more than Madrid were willing to pay. If Mbappe were to be sold with 2/3 years on his contract you would have to pay at least £200m.

They are paying him £1m a week too, not sure he’d be getting that if they’d paid £200m for him?

I've just done some detective work and it was that guy tweeting about Ings that caused the odds on him signing for us to come down, people obviously believed him because he got Chambers rights and so had a bet with betting companies which in turn caused them to shorten the odds.

So, Raphinha, Pogba and Dybala it is then 🥳🥳🥳

Hickey has played right-back in Scotland, he's two footed. He probably hasn't played a lot there because there hasn't been call for him to do so, but if needed as two footed fullback, he's more than capable. In our system when need the fullbacks to be almost like wingers would be better than playing someone like Konsa or Chambers there

Our FB’s will be worked liked dogs, getting up and down the pitch.  I see the need to rotate at least 3 to keep them fresh.  I make that c. 25 league games each, with a few additional Cup games on top of that.

I think the summer window has to be going all out for 2 starters to try to push us into the top 6 next season:

    • CDM
    • CB (to properly compete for a starting spot with Mings and Konsa)

And then make a decision on Coutinho - either buy him for 30m mindful that he is 30 in June, or look for a similar creative player that is younger but maybe available at a good price (someone like Aouar).

Hickey should also be on our radar (or another LB) and maybe a RB to compete with Cash (unless Gerrard thinks KKH is ready).

We need to sell some players like Hause, Trez, AEG, maybe Ings, maybe Sanson, Targett, Davis. Should get minimum 60m for all of them if there are buyers.

Then decisions need to be made on Archer and JPB (and maybe even Aaron Ramsey) - if their loans go well are they ready to come into the squad and play minutes in the first team.

Feel it's a big summer ahead.

Don’t see Archer and JPB progression as that quick.  We are looking to qualify for Europe and maybe challenge top 4, next season. If Archer, JPB or David impress this season, then I’d expect us to loan them out to Premier League sides next season.

    i think more realistically:

    Trez - 5m (1yr left on contract)

El Ghazi - 5-10m (1yr left on contract)

Wes - £0 (the guy cant play football at the highest level any more, we will be lucky to even offload his salary)

    Targett - £20m

Davis - £10-12m (assuming his Forest loan continues to go well)

So i reckon £40m to £47m all being well.

I assumed either Wes starts to score goals or we put in an insurance claim, so I think £15m is fair, definitely at least £10m.

    What.

    The f**k.

    Is this.

A suggestion that Gerrard may want to clear out Dougie who won’t sign a new contract and Targett who he can’t guarantee game time to.  In addition, we need a destructive midfielder and a CB??

Not quite sure what you don’t get?

It happened in Dream Team once, it must be true

Dream Team….. still remember the time the Mirror linked Liverpool with a £3m move for French left back Didier Baptiste, only to have to be told he was a character in Dream Team, and not real.

Given previous behaviour, standard for Lange would be to go quiet on Bissouma for a bit.  Meanwhile, links start to appear in the press of our admiring glances being made to various DM / Box to Box midfielders across the continent.

So we’ll have to ride out these nonsense links, whilst Brighton have their bluff called that they are prepared to take a massive hit on his value / believe he will sign a new contract.

Just gonna leave this here …..

    Oh my.

    Well we **** that.

Wonder if it was Purslow saying no I prefer Ings?

Hope he butts out of all recruitment matters other than signing the cheque.

Looks likes it's about £17m. Ouch.

More likely we had a chat with him and he said, not without champs league, but thank you for your interest.

The club surely understands what it wants the squad to look like next year, and the year after that. This would include players coming through the youth set up and when they need to go out on loan.

If Targett isn't an integral part of the first team squad next season, and we can get good value for him now - then we should to sell. FFP might be crap, but it hasn't gone away. Getting (say) £20m now, plus his £40k-odd a week wages off the books will free up budget that can be put to better use.
Keeping him won't just cost his salary - but his value will probably only go down from here, so the next 6 months might actually cost us £6m, if his value drops.

    And good luck to him.

As much as shafting Newcastle sounds like fun - the right decision for Aston Villa should be the only decision we have to make.

clearly a judgement decision for Gerrard, but as a matter of principle, I have no problem selling Newcastle a player we deem to be no longer of the required level, particularly for a nice profit.

We can't sell Targett this window and Newcastle will aim higher in summer if they stay up

In effect we upgrade from Targett and Young, to Digne and Hickey for c.£16m.  Additionally it means Young can cover / challenge further forward.

I think we need a cardiac sub forum..sorry for derailing

Was trying to work a pun around the words derailing and defibrillating, it’s been 3 minutes and I just couldn’t get it to work.  Can we just assume that I did and it was very amusing ?

  16. Hmmm……

The club won’t want to sell, not just because we don’t want to lose him, but also because it says to the world we are a selling club and attracting ambitious players becomes much more difficult.

If he makes it clear he wants to go, then it’s about extracting as much £’s from United as possible.  If he goes for less than £55m - £60m, that sends a similar message as to our ambition.

  18. Been working on a Joeless chant for Coutinho, what do you think ???

    He’s Phil Coutinho

    He comes from Rio

    He came from Barca

    To Villa Park

    He’s 5 foot 7

    and football heaven

    please don’t take Philippe away
