I've done some analysis on the defensive side, at a high level we were terrible for errors leading to goal scoring chances 29! Mings had 7 alone and Hause 5. Next worst were Southampton on 20....
Anyway, for defense, I have added all defensive actions, successful pressing, interceptions, tackles, blocks, clearances adjusted for possession and then deducted times dribbled past and errors to get to Adjusted defensive Actions per 90 (Adj DA90). Below are the defenders under 25. Some names jump out that could be available both Tomori and Christensen could be good additions if Chelsea are looking to move on? Loan with an option to buy?
On a side note both Matt Target and Freddy Guilbert look pretty good overall.

The issue with this analysis it doesn't adjust for quality of the shot. For instance if I made a pass to the centre circle and the player took a shot it would count as 1 action, if I made a pass to the 6 yard box and the player scored it would only count as one action. The more interesting statistic in the cumn to me is goal creating actions per 90. Grealish is at 0.42 which is roughly 11th. Which puts him behind Fernandes, maximan, traore, silva, rashford martial.
Fair point but the problem with GCA is you need a striker to actually finish! If Jack was setting up Aguero or Vardy his GCA would be much higher as well.

Just to highlight how good Jack is, below is the same analysis but for Premier League, La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga combined (Ligue 1 excluded because it is some way off in terms of quality). He is second only to Lorenzo Pellegrini. Starting to think £80m is too cheap.....
There were not too many realistic names that jumped out to me. Josip Brekalo (LW) is probably realistic as an alternative to Benrahma. Samuel Chukwueze (RW) would be excellent but likely going to a champions league side.

So what you’re saying is my choice is wingers to bring in is correct
If your choice was Saint-Maximin and Buendia then yes! (plus keeping jack obviously...)

No disrespect.....but I am sceptical, not of your hard work, just the prospective conclusions.
In terms of my personal opinion of the players on that list, I am not sure what to think of it, and if that's data, not sure even more......just seeing the bottome 3 where they are is enough for me to put it down.
The bottom three are more goal scorers rather than pure chance creators. If you were looking at strikers you would look more at chance conversion rate etc to rank. Not suggesting AEG is better than Rashford

I have been doing a bit of analysis on last years stats, I do quite a bit of data analysis for work and decided to see who the best young attacking players were last season.
An attacking players job is primary to create scoring chances and the best stats is 'shot created actions' or SCA per 90 i.e. their action leads to a shot. I have adjusted it to allow for the fact not all teams have the ball for the same time. The table below is quite interesting. Shows best attacking players in the league 25 or under (at start of season) by my measure.
It should come as no surprise to anyone Super Jack is the by far the best young attacking player in the league. He is second on SCA90 and first on my adjusted SCA90. Interesting SJM is pretty high up on the list showing why he was such a loss. It terms of potential targets, Allan Saint-Maximin and Buendia are both really high up. Both Deulofeu and Sarr would be quality additions and some potential cheaper options Dwight McNeil (if Burnley are broke and need the money), Ryan Fraser and Andreas Pereira (if united would sell for a decent price). Interesting AEG is on the list so if probably worth keeping as a squad player.

Is this per 90 or per game? Origi starts a lot less than the other two. Therefore, there could be a big caveat.
Yes shots per 90

Some more stats.....
Iheanacho
Shot per game = 3.12
Shots on target = 52.9%
Goal per shot = 0.15
Expect goals and assists per 90 = 0.68
Iheanacho looks pretty close to Tammy's level.
Edouard
Shot per game = 4.29
Shots on target = 45%
Goal per shot = 0.21
Expect goals and assists per 90 = 1.29
As expected Edouard has he best stats considering the level he plays at but shots on target/goals per shot should reflect innate finishing ability and transfer to a higher level to a certain extent....

To put things in context some stats on Origi v Wesley v Tammy
Wesley
Shots per game = 1.77
Shot on target = 48.2%
Goals per shot = 0.14
Expect goals and assists per 90 = 0.30
Origi
Shots per game = 1.75
Shots on target % = 42.9%
Goals per shot = 0.29
Expect goals and assists per 90 = 0.28
Tammy
Shot per game = 3.58
Shots on target = 39.8%
Goal per shot = 0.17
Expect goals and assists per 90 = 0.69
Tammy takes way more shots than both which is party due to Chelsea creating more but also his movement and ability to get into goal scoring positions. Origi is pretty poor in all measures apart from the goals per shot but his expected goals and assists suggest he was lucky to score what he did last season and actually is not much better than Wesley if not worse considering he got the same stats in one of the best teams in Europe? Whereas Tammy has a much higher expected goals and assists showing he is getting into very good goal scoring positions and creating chances. Tammy is by far the best of the three.

I would really like Origi. I don’t understand the dislike of the idea. He has a very good goals to minute ratio... to base it on appearances is unfair because he’s been primarily a sub player for Liverpool. He’s scored every 176 mins this year in just the PL, which isn’t much worse than Tammy who scored a goal every 148, and even Mo Salah only managed a goal every 152 mins in the PL this year.
I actually think if we got him, it would be quite a coup.
Need to consider Liverpool create a large number of chances. If you look at his wider stats they are not that good such as successful dribbles, chances created, conversion ratio etc. I don't think he is much better than what we have.
Edouard has the potential to be a £75m player if he has one successful season with us. His creativity, dribbling and finishing are excellent and if we can get him for £35m we definitely should in my opinion.

To be fair our fans are being just as bad. Chelsea fans doing it too.
And yet, it really annoys us when Utd fans make out like they just need to click their fingers and Jack will come running.
Surely the Smith link would put us ahead of Leeds if the money is the same.

Like the idea of Rashica on our left wing.
He can play on the right as well. A front four of Edouard, Grealish, Benrahma and Rashica is the stuff of dreams.

Benrahma has had a quiet game but he would still be a quality addition.
If we do have the £100m suggested my shopping list would be:
Edouard - £30m would like Tammy but I think Chelsea would want £40m+ Alternatives would be Mitrovic and Watkins depending on who wins the game.
Buendia - £20-25m another excellent creative player to take the pressure of Jack
Benerama - £20-25m - hopefully would get 10 goals. An alternative would be Domenico Berardi he is 26 and would cost £25-30m but almost guaranteed 15+ goals a season.
Eze - £10m plus a mix of Hogan/Jota/Lansbury/Davis(loan)
Ben Godfrey - £20m - Move him into a DM position, good tackler and fantastic long ball for transition. Would provide cover for Mings.
or Baptiste Santamaria - £10-15m
If we signed the above, I think we would be challenging for a top six place not fighting relegation next season. It seems most clubs don't have any money so if we are clever we can really move forward.

Hello gents,
Long time reader of VT. As we head in to what could be a massive transfer window, I thought I would get involved!
Cheers

On the DM side, first Marvelous is actually pretty good and is definitely worth keeping. Obvious names in the top 25 but a few potential targets. Philip Billing looks like a fantastic young DM and should be available for £15m. Sean Longstaff as well, didn't he turn down a contract offer?
