Yeah, just been working with the £100m figure that seems to have been widely leaked right from the start of the window.

I don't think it was leaked, it was just random guessing/paper talk.  The fact we are spending £20m on a keeper and £14m on a RB suggests there is more than £100m available.

I still think it's likely Grealish will remain left and Nakamba/new DM comes in. Alternatively Luiz plays deep and a new CM comes in.

I can see that against the 'bigger' teams but think we will play with a 10 when we a favorites/equal.  It has been said we want a forward and winger and I am wondering if Rashica could be the forward (King was his alternative) and we could still get Benrahma/Buendia maybe even Sarr?

Bournemouth fans seem to think he is shite as a DM and alright more box to box. Not that this rules him out for me as I'd prefer to leave Luiz playing deep and add physical presence further forwards.

Below is an analysis I did of the stats a few weeks ago.  Second only to Ndidi for possession adjusted defensive actions per 90 for midfielders under 25.  Nakamba also high up there.  As mentioned, he just needs more composure on the ball.

I didn’t watch much of Billing, other than when he played against Villa last season, but the guys on the Tifo Football Podcast (that seem to know their stuff), have mentioned how highly they rate him, and that Eddie Howe deployed him the wrong way, asking him to do too much, instead of just being a ball winning machine.

In terms of defensive actions per game he is one of the highest ranked young DMs in Europe.  No idea how his overall game is though.  Nakamba is very highly ranked as well from a defensive actions perspective but he struggles on the ball and especially to help transition from defense to attack.  Maybe he is similar but I've not watched him enough to know.

    Interesting that nobody has though.

The only explanation I can think of is he is not a big goal scorer.  Creativity and ball progression numbers are fantastic but I guess most managers want all of their forward line to score goals.

Bring Ramsay in on 400k a week why not. We're big spenders in the transfer market again, may as well get our dick out on the table with an outrageous bit of business.

£20m a year in wages is an outrageous amount.  If we agreed to do it though based on us paying 30% of the cost or £6m per year, it might not be out of the realms of possibility.  No idea if he is still any good though...

I really dislike the commentary around "risk" in general tbh. It's all a bloody risk. Every signing. Every tired, shit pundit can say ooo risk about anyone for any reason.

It's not to say Eduoard isn't a better player anyway, Watkins just had so many more things going for him to lessen the chance of a flop. English, knows Smith, knows system, can play wide if we need him to, lower wages, exemplary attitude.

If you watch Mourinho on all or nothing, you can see why attitude is so important to many managers.  The professionalism and drive to succeed verse a lazy bad apple who thinks they are too good for the club and wants to move on.  Eduoard would probably fall closer to the latter, want more money and cost more in transfer fees despite scoring no more in a much weaker league.

I think lewis for 15m is a good deal suprised we didnt look at that

I don't really get what all the fuss is about him.  Created almost half the chances of Targett last year in very attacking team and was not great defensively.

We don't have £100m to spend, we have what's necessary for the correct players to spend.

The £100m was always just made up.  Its not like the money is sitting in the bank.  The majority is paid for from future earnings depending how the deal is structured (the owners can only put £35m in over 3 seasons excluding excluded items like youth team players etc) .  Some reports have said our wages were as low as £30-40m last season off a turnover of probably £150m excluding the impact of Covid.  This is why we can spend and in theory we could probably spend up to £200m before we would use up all of our future budgets.

Buendia would be an excellent signing considering we;re looking to add very athletic strikers who are a threat aerially and on the ground. Imagine the amount of chances the like of Watkins will get in a game if he has Grealish on one side and Buendia on the other.

Its a good point.  Buendia is such a versatile player as well.  He can beat his man and get balls into the box all day long.

He is also actually quite a good tackler for a forward and can press plus we need creativity especially in case Jack gets injured.

  11. Its is a big chunk of money on the face of it but this is what Strikers cost now.  Seb Haller and Joelinton both over £40m plus high wages.  Leeds nearly £30m for a 29 year old.  Wolves paid nearly £40m for a 28 year old Jimenez last year.

He will get goals, is good with his feet and can hold the ball up well.  There is a reason Spurs wanted him.

    Buendia now please!

Brewster obviously yes please and worth more than £20M imo, don’t believe it though.

He is completely unproven apart from half a season in the championship.  So I'm not sure much more than £20m would be justified.

'The Sun' saying that we want Brewster for £20m, think he'd be a really good signing but doubt very much that Liverpool will let him go.

Liverpool do really need the money though surprisingly.

Maybe a similar deal to the Luiz deal could be done.  £20m purchase and £30-35m buyback option rising by £10m per year?

Well at least the squad will be settled, and nearly everyone to full fitness.

I've been away from VT for a few days, is there much talk of Jack leaving? or better yet any news of him signing an improved 5 year contract?

I am a little concerned about the lack of new faces but I guess I shouldn't be, what with the quick turnaround, the extended transfer window and the fact we are a bit of hard sell at the moment.

Very unlikely Jack will leave now they have signed Van De Beek.

A budget dictated by FFP rather than the owners was my point.

Yeah,  we could probably spend £200m depending on wages, who leaves and length of contracts but then we would little or no budget for the next few years.

Do we honestly agree that Watkins,Cash and Wilson will improve us that much from being in a relegation scrap 2 of those are unproven in Premier League and other can be great on his day.I'm not convinced. We need more players and quality.

If we continue our form post lock down then I don't think we will be in a relegation scrap and all those players improve us substantially.  Hopefully we agree terms with Romero as well who would improve us massively over Nyland who probably lost us 6+ points on his own.

I can see Watkins scoring a load of goals at the backpost from a Cash/Grealish cross depending on which side he is on.  Wilson will score goals and Cash will add more attacking threat down the right.

We still need more though in case (god forbid) Grealish gets injured for a few months.  Benrahma and Buendia, a CB and CM and I would be happy.  Would be nice for Lange to pick up a few random gems as well close to the end of the window.

I don’t know this Dianganas player apart from YouTube clips.  Just concerns me that ‘links’ had us after Aarons, then Trippier and then we got Cash.

Now we were after Rashica, then Benrhama and now Dianganas.....we seem to be not getting our first or second targets.

I can only go by media links but the steps down in quality from each step seems to make sense....

Same, never heard of him but he does look good.  Better goal contribution per minute than Benrahma and three years younger.

I still think we will get another wide player in maybe Rashica if no one else comes in for him or Buendia.

But £28m for Watkins who is 4 months younger is?

I'm honestly more desperate for a quality wide player. Obviously we also need a quality striker.

Latest I heard is we are going to £22m plus add ons.

The thing with Watkins though is he can play very well across the entire front line.  So you get more flexibility and value.  Benrahma can really only play LW.

All we have is press links which is rubbish I know.

It seems we have come in last minute for Dianganas after West Brom we’re closing on the deal.  We were previously in for Rashica and Benrhama but now onto Dianganas, what happened to Benrhama? Just curious

I would guess Brentford are quoting us £30m and we don't think it is worth it for a 25 year old who has never played in the top flight (as much as I would like him).

He doesn’t score goals mate, can’t see him coming even close to double figures. Would need a few seasons at a lower level to develop, certainly not a PL player and I’d be very disappointed if he ends up getting minutes for us this season (meaning we failed to strengthen).

He has decent attributes but a striker has to be able to score and he doesn’t possess that ability (yet). He needs a couple of seasons in the championship and then we can see what he’s really made of.

As I stated earlier, we can’t afford to be sentimental. We need top quality and reliability if we really want to progress and compete at this level. We barely survived and  need major improvement & enhancement.

    Again, no passengers.

He is 22 mate, has had injury problems and never had a decent run of games.  He created 3.25 chances in the games he played this season which is extremely good across all premier league strikers and especially compared to Wesley and Samatta who created barely 1 each.  He only played 500 PL minutes and could have easily got 2 or 3 goals with a bit of luck.  I can remember Dean Henderson pulling of a great save to deny him, he hit the post from a header in one game and another shot he pulled an inch wide after making a great run and between two defenders and bring the ball down on his chest.

As I said, a season with a mid table championship side would do him the world of good.  He will get goals and will build his confidence.  He might not make it but there is still a really good chance he will with his movement, strength and good ball control for a target man.

    Coming To America Bar GIF

Come on its hardly that difficult.  Less than 1 in 2 in the Championship.  Lewis Grabbon got 20 goals last season.  Troy Deeley will probably get close to 20 next season.

I think there is potentially a top striker in Davis if he can get a run of games and keep injury free.
