Yep he is but there is also the factor that Jack will, most likely, be playing for the strongest side in the league.

No no, you misunderstand. He's leaving Villa.

Sorry, for some reason I thought this was a post in the Jack Grealish thread in response to our £100m incoming transfer fee.

It's ok. It was a silly post anyway, I don't understand finances.

He has come here from Midtjylland (Brentford sister club) which generally is the best place to learn/be if you are a set-piece coach. A couple of years ago it felt like they were scoring on every single corner or throw-in here in Denmark.

You can read more about it in this article from Sky about set-piece coaching. https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12361303/man-utd-and-arsenal-have-hired-set-piece-coaches-but-what-do-they-do-and-do-they-provide-an-edge

    See for example this quote:
"One thing many set-piece coaches have in common - renowned Italian Gianni Vio as well as Jover, Georgson and Buttgereit - is that they have at some point worked under Brentford and FC Midtjylland owner Matthew Benham, a former professional gambler whose analytical, statistics-led approach to running his clubs includes an emphasis on specialist coaching."

I have nothing but respect for Brentford and the way they're run. If Midtjylland is anything at all like it, this guy will be a revelation for us.

Problem is, you can't tell if 200 pages have been added because something serious has happened or not.

Fair point, but this isn't where I've been getting my updates on the situation. Since I last read the topic a bid has been officially made, no response has been given as of yet, Jack has landed back in the UK and Wes has arrived from the US for crunch talks with him. The consensus is that we have a week to convince him to stay, or he leaves on a "good faith" clause, whatever that means.

My view is the same as it was with the Man U interest last year - he is torn, he has a million reasons to want to go to city, but he's desperately looking for just one reason to stay.

    Only time will tell.

  5. I last looked at this thread Friday morning. There's been nearly 200 players since then, and skimming through them almost none of them say anything new.

I'm at the point where whatever will be, will be. If he stays, great. If he goes, we'll be fine. Do yourselves a favour and just wait it out, let it just play out and see what happens. There'll be much less headaches that way.

Something interesting I've noticed is that whoscored lists his passing accuracy at 78.1% but fbref lists it as 70%

And fbref lists his attempted passes per 90 as 40 and I calculated that whoscored says it is only 32.3. So I'm curious as to what is happening there.

Potentially whoscored doesn't count set pieces and maybe crosses as well. I think that is the answer. Because if you add his deadballs and crosses together it adds up to 7.5 which makes up the difference pretty much.

If that is the case baileys pass accuracy is much better than it appears and is right around Sanchos as well. On top of directly superior goal creation as well.

Something to add is that a large amount of his passes are risky forward passes in the final third and cut-backs in the penalty area. One thing you don't get from stats is how much better it is to have players who try that sort of thing, and how much more likely that are to be defended.

Thought this was interesting, all bailey's touches etc versus Stuttgart in during a game in Feb 2021, i think he's going to fit right in with Grealish & Buendia.

That was saucy. Especially his goal - everything about it was exactly the sort of thing I want to see us do.

What is it the kids say? Inject it in my veins 💉

Grealish more unsuccessful touches, disposessed more and more inaccurate short passes per 90 but people see what they want to see I guess

The difference is Grealish is often crowded out and doubled up on, and the majority of his short passes are the probing, risky type that leads to a tap-in for Ollie. Those are in dangerous, congested areas and are more likely to be cut out, but also cause havoc for the opposition. Context is key here.

FWIW I like McGinn, he's been brilliant for us. Given his journey with us if he's already hit his ceiling then he's done fantastically well. He will always be remembered fondly of he was to leave.

I still think he can do a job, though. Whenever he's had time to rest up he's come back looking like a world beater at times; he would benefit from some healthy competition.

Crikey.  Our songs are going to have to get inventive in a few years if all these players with strange exotic names break through to the first team.

To be fair, it's about time our songs got inventive.

Just mentioned it in the Grealish thread, but I reckon he has gone. Too many things happening at the moment. Hope not, of course, but… unfortunately I think he will be leaving us this summer.

This sort of talk will win you no friends here pal

Really important we get a replacement for Grealish in ASAP so this is a good start. Should be enough time to gel with the rest of the team before the season kicks off

    Stop it immediately.

I'm not watching, was it last man?

    Did he even touch him?

Yes, but it was hardly a clear goalscoring opportunity.

    No, not even remotely.

Even worse, this went to VAR and they still sent him off.

Also, is Doug really slow or it's that striker really fast?

Baffling series of events all round.

Because of the increased value of the club I doubt they look at it as losses of 170m, pre this transfer window they might well be in profit on paper. That's why we are so lucky, they know what they are doing, hope they never sell.

I don't understand finances on this scale. I just see big numbers and panic.

Some people would probably say the same about Villa fans and Grealish tbh :)

At least he **** plays for us though!

Totally different. Jack is still here, it actually makes sense for us to talk about him.

Bellingham is a great player and he will be excellent for years to come. None of it will ever benefit SHA though.

My friend who is a Norwich City season ticket holder is absolutely gutted he is gone. She said he's the best player she has ever seen play for them and makes a bold claim he is better than Jack!

I'm not sure on that but I'm very excited to see him and Jack on the same pitch as each other

I've seen that claimed a lot. I'd scoff at it, but seeing as he's our player now I almost hope it's true. Can you imagine? We'll be unstoppable.

For the Walsall game I tried to watch it via the PS4 and on the big TV downstairs but it just buffered like hell and was that bad I ended up watching it on the phone in the end.

Agree though the commentary was class

The best thing to do imo is to get a Chromecast of some kind, then get the game on your phone and cast it to the TV. Worked like a charm for me.

Just checked if he was born on 20th. No born on 25th December. He's a Christmas miracle!

Not seen a single link to another club.

I think he's done as a PL player.

It's funny you'd say that right before this link came about.

  19. Buendia is class, pure and simple.

Nice to see Ollie getting goals early.

Nakamba ate his Weetabix this morning. Is it just the quality of the opposition or does he look much better on the ball?

Chuk looks tidy, although his decision making could use some work. He'll benefit from a run of games

Pleased with what I've seen so far.
