Just because you guys don’t like it doesn’t mean it was bad.  All design companies get given brief’s and seem to do ok and yes this design company didn’t blow it out of the park but they had plenty to work with and really didn’t do much.  Fan designs with the same restrictions seem to produce fantastic versions.  It’s not the fans fault.

Disagree the other option looked good. The round badge was a terrible choice by our fans.

I would go further and say that the other option was better by half. It's what I voted for and I would do again if given a choice between all the various possible badges.

But the most vocal and proactive elements of our fanbase get swept up time and again in nostalgia and that's what happened again in this case, to our detriment.

    Absolutely agree

Serbian kid was starting in CL matches already (and did a great job vs City) though been injured for long time, must be thinking he's gonna get up and running quite quickly. But yea bit of a surprise regardless

Think he's going to be more like Duran in the sense it won't really be until his third season where he gets significant minutes though expect him to be a bit part player next year.

Yeah that's amazing. This is the colour scheme though, except for the shit rush job I've done of it:

Except light blue next to yellow clearly doesn't work (d'oh!) which is why you've used a double border I guess, but it's not needed anymore:

The claret badge on a claret kit I don't think works

I've crossed paths with quite a few top folks at design agencies including Interbrand (ones who did the Juve logo), Pentagram , WeLaunch. They are all pretty plugged in. When a design bombs most times it has to do with a very limiting brief or interference from the client's CEO or Marketing Director - who feel "they know better".

    The round badge looks good.

    The lion looks great.

The issue is it looks to similar to Chelsea. It's not really a fault of the design company. The other option they provided was also good.

Is there really a better sight than Emi claiming a high ball or cross and then lying down on it? 😆

So reassuring and eases all nerves and tension 😆

Him doing that then pretending to have hurt his back?

Worth pointing out in his time with the sixers the TV money jumped by like 100 mil.

Edit: Which is to say that he had no bearing on that.

Also he took over just after the process era. So ofc he increased the money. The whole reason the new regime got put in place in Philly is because Hinkie was costing the league too much money with his personnel decisions and many games the sixers arena was like half full. Even the most incompetent moron would have been able to make a massive price increase. Even just filling the arena at basic prices would have been an extra 30 mil, before drinks and stuff or the more luxury tickets. Or considering the playoffs which have more expensive tickets and are extra games.

Whilst he did increase the revenue a lot of it is just natural consequences of him taking over when he did.

    Great Thanks!!

So all in the right place now - sorry everyone - I'll raise my game to Unai levels moving forward....

These designs are somewhat original, but in large part draw basis and inspiration, with some tweaks (some almost copies - so acknowledgements to you all), from many posters on here, 1957 badge, previous badges, tradition, and looking at the array of modern designs across the top leagues in europe.  I feel it has to predominantly Claret and Blue (not yellow and blue) so it works on the shirt and in media as a representation of us. Current lion is far better than the blobby lion from learner (in my opinion), but back facing left and not falling over.  Star is gone - its small time - if we hope to be in the UCL in the next season(s), take it off now! Most work well on claret or white (away kit should always be white) with maybe a font colour change on some.  Apart from one these, the AV diamond with gold lion (I think by teale's tash) would be my vote rather than the drop shadow abomination..

The one thing that this round badge does well is that the lion is clean af. I don't understand why they threw the baby out with the bath water so to speak you put the new lion in claret on hecks badge and whilst the balance is still of I bet it looks about 10 times better than it does now.

A fair question - but we've beaten Arsenal twice this season, dominated City in a game, and are in the semi's of a European trophy.
I would counter that perhaps we need more depth in some areas (esp. CDM) in order to compete consistently on multiple fronts, rather than go all out for a better first team.

My suggestion - so may be wrong - is that perhaps Kosta is the new RB. I have never seen him play but it's a lot of money on a 'punt'.
My hope for improvement next year is that we don't have players out either all season (Mings, Buendia) or for most of it (Ramsey, Moreno, Kamara). But if we do, we need to cope.

As I said we do need a DM, but like our depth at CB is shaky if we are relying on Konsa at RB and Cash is always our worst player when he plays. Even vs Lille he was at fault for the first goal and hamstrung our attack the entire game. Sure he made it up with a goal and scoring his penalty but we probably wouldn't have needed either if we were playing with a more tactically strong RB. Whether that RB is good in possession, defensively stout or a flying RB. Cash is a C+ grade at all of these things which means he can do an OK job but the team would be far better if we could bring in a player who is B+ in 2 of these areas and sacrifice a little in the other area.

Similarly LB, Moreno and Digne are fine they don't need to be replaced. But again they are the obvious replacements. Digne has been fantastic and his experience in European competitions is valuable so maybe we should keep him, I do not know. Digne is perhaps more of a B grade in all these areas and Moreno when he was fit last season was one of the most potent wingbacks in the league. But we do not know whether moreno will recover his pace, or his touch or his dribbling or his crossing. Plus both are in their 30s. At minimum one of them should be moved and we should bring in a younger understudy.

If we sign someone like Hermoso as you mentioned then we should move on both and sign a wingback to complement Hermoso.

A lot of people talking about needing new full backs - I'm not sure.

Kosta is coming in, and people saying he's not ready. Do we know this? People said the same about Rogers, and he's done really well, after the first few games. Kosta will get a whole pre-season.
We've also got Konsa, and KKH (who at least is already here) - so perhaps we could look to sell on Cash, who is probably at his peak value now (hopefully after a good summer with Poland), and boost our funds under PSR.

With LB we have Digne and Moreno, who hopefully can find his form again.
As much as Digne's wages are high making it attractive to sell, who is going to pay his current book value of around £12m with those wages, let alone a figure making it worth us selling one of our best players this season.
Give it another year or 2 and hopefully Chrisene or Sousa (or both) will be ready to step up, meaning the best financial decision is to do nothing right now.
It seems Revan has also done OK on loan (although I am not sure he will 'make it' here).
I think the only thing that could change the LB decision is someone like Hermaso on a free, who can cover there.

I think we need to spend money in CM, particularly CDM.
I don't think PSR is the major issue some make out, but we can't be dropping big money on 4 or 5 positions without bringing some major money in.

You say this but look at our team where are you upgrading if not at the full backs?

We aren't signing someone better than torres, we aren't signing someone better than Dougie, or Bailey, or Watkins.

So we are talking full backs and DM but only because Kamara is injured and we need more depth there.

LW as well I suppose is another area we could target but with JJ, Mcginn, Rogers, Diaby and Tielemans all being able to play there in our system it's not an area of concern unlike RB.

Also Kosta has been injured for the last 9 games and seems like he will continue to be injured. He's also still only 18, I suspect he's more like a Duran signing where if he is going to be in our squad he will mostly be getting minor appearances until his 3rd year with us or so.

We didn't pay 15m though, we paid 8m with add ons up to 15m.

I would guess we will end up paying most of those add ons though tbf.

We also sold them azaz for fairly cheap who had 3 goals and 3 assists in 13 starts (also made 5 appearances off the bench).

Only 2.5 mil for a 23 year old who had 7 goals and 5 assists in 26 matches for a relation battling team.

    Was Diaby not nearer 50?

Was 34.6 Million initially, rising to 44 per ornstein who is by far the msot reliable reporter on the actual details of the deals.

    Quote

Moussa Diaby in a deal worth around €40m (£34.6m) plus add-ons.

I suspect the figure bandied about by sky, is euros and inclusive of add ons. As 44 million quid is 51 million euros.

I like the round badge but seeing as that is dead in the water under Heck I’m just wanting to focus on this shield version going forwards.  The detailed lion is much better than this yellow because it’s too yellow, it clashes with the light blue and it is very basic lion. So that’s my issue with the lion but I have other issues with the badge. I actually don’t care which way it faces now to be honest but I know others do.

My personal preference would be our current lion, on a unique crest whether it be the heck proposed one, the Lerner crest or a gaslamp one.

Theb preferably the lion is not yellow. Just doesn't work unless the badge is claret which then doesn't work on the shirts.

  14. Wonder whether we might be interested in singing someone like Modric on a 1-2 year deal. He's 38 so obviously a bit of a risk, but others have pointed out we do lack experience and control when we've been in Europe. Modric could impart his knowledge and be a model professional whilst not being asked to play too many games but still being able to play at the highest levels here. Obviously wage demands could be an issue.

Yeah, I think so too. I have a feeling that the plan will be Torres - Mings - Konsa - New RB next season - with the RB taking the 'Moreno' role as we switch from back 3 to back 4 dependent on possession.

I'd much rather it be the LB doing that. Torres as the LB doesn't inspire any trust in me. Whereas Konsa as the RB is good defensively.
