Yeah but if something comes in the box you want Watkins there not Davis don’t you?  Watkins as you say can still get in the box but no where near the same amount from out wide.  When you are 2-0 down, even 2-1 and getting very few chances you want a scoring striker to have that one possible opportunity than a non-scoring striker.

Yes but with Elmo crossing Ollie coming in at the back arguably would get him more chances

Again it's just another option limited like the others unfortunately

Move our scoring striker out wide when he’s been scoring goals? I just don’t understand or agree why some people think this is a good idea....it’s bizarre!

The idea behind it is Watkins will still get in the box as well as it comes natural plus he was getting nothing central today all out wide anyway

I didn't say start that way just gives us another option than the usual trez for el ghazi which almost never works

That is so lazy by you guys. He works hard defensively. He doesn't have great awareness so he often loses his man. But whenever he loses the ball he is running back and trying to win it back

Yes this is also why Smith kept him on in the palace game and took traore off(even though traore was the best player in the first half ) when we went down to 10 because Anwar is better defensivly

Anwar isn't good enough for where we are trying to get to. Nice lad, talented, but lacks the intelligence and mindset to succeed from what I have seen. He is a good championship level player.

He deserved to be dropped as he played badly. Apart from a decent performance against Chelsea his other 2 good performances were against bottom feeders. He should've had a hattrick against Burnley but we came away with a nil nil.

I hope he proves me wrong, but I doubt it.

Not having that no way he deserved to be dropped scored 5 in 6 and was dropped

He had a bad half when he came back in for West ham this was when he hadn't played for a few games

Perhaps not but if it's a choice between one or the other, Barkley's getting picked every time.

But it's not just between them two and yet Barkley still getting picked

Honestly I think hourihane would be better than Barkley at the minute and unfortunately Conor is not prem standard

scoring 5 goals, although lovely, doesnt take away from the fact he isnt a very good player.

Those 5 goals were like winning at the blackjack table, you dont keep betting until you lose it all.....you realise you hit jackpot and get the f*** out before it comes back and bites you.

AEG is not a very good player at all.

I would find a way to use Sanson, Ramsey, or even Nakamba before i considered AEG tbh.

This is all just opinion you obviously don't see anything in el ghazi  but me on the other can see a player there

To me he actually creates more space for Jack because of his runs and also his willingness to shoot (which draws other defenders away trying to block his shots)

It's not always about what he does individually it's about what he brings to the team as a whole

And to me if his performance had dropped before he was benched I would have no issue but he was and the brought on to play one half of football on the right wing which is not his position

At the he is being compared to our best  winger

We have to realise he is not Jack and is never going to be

he really doesnt.....AEG is never the answer.

Well he was the answer when he scored 5 goals in 6 games in December and then unfairly dropped for Barkley who hardly resembles a professional footballer at the moment

So many of my friends and family support Liverpool. All I hear is how good they are. Now we’re looking half decent I might mention it here and there. Turns out I’m getting to excited and need to calm down a bit.  Have an opinion about Liverpool they don’t like, I need to shut up and concentrate on my own team.

I hate the arrogance of these fans.  Just one day finishing above them would be so satisfying.

Oh definitely nice blokes they are but as you say finishing above them would be beautiful and that 7-2 my boys (especially the eldest)absolutely ripped the piss out of them and his friends and he deserved it because he only young and never seen us as a half decent team (I actually don't know who he follows Villa considering I must have done something right😁)

Happy New year's my Villa family

If you had one new years Villa wish what would it be?

The reason I ask this time last year I remember saying to wife that I hope my youngest would follow in mine and his brothers footsteps but he was getting swayed by his uncles, grandad and cousins who follow Liverpool but now he is absolutely Villa and it all came down to Villa and the moments since June and topped off with the 7-2

    Sometimes wishes do come through

I recon Hourihane would be quite good at pens.

His shooting is pretty accurate. Then again he barely ever plays

Have to agree when he's on he should take them should have took the one against West ham but was subbed right then so obviously not the designated penalty taker

Get on the ball. Take the game by the scruff of the neck. Crunch someone. Rattle a few people. Get into pockets pick up the ball.relieve pressure .

    Even Westwood did that.

He just annoys me. So happy to just float about and not actually engage anyone.

Ha Westwood wouldn't have got on any better last night

Criticise him all you want when he plays for villa but not one irish  player came off well last night and I'm Irish so I'm generally buyist when it comes to irish teams but not one of them laid a glove on England last night not just hourihane

Also rattle a few , crunch someone

Why are you expecting in to do this when he never has and never will he is not that sort of player

You do if you take all the corners and free kicks.

If you are using stats to judge him fine, his stats are probably great. I'm not. I've watched him play more than enough to see he's not good enough for the premier league.

Well he is good enough just not as a starter which I have already said,

You blatantly said he never played well for us , I was stating that you don't get that many goals and assists without playing well , I even gave examples and before you say again regarding set plays go check and see how many were actually from set pieces

  13. 1 hour ago, villa89 said:

No, IMO. Look back at his villa career and name one really impressive performance he has put in? There aren't any.

    That statement is just wrong

Yes he is not the best but you don't get as many goals and assists without playing well

For example we don't beat Newcastle last year without him or the Norwich game where he got a hat trick

It is one thing not starting him but when were looking for goal not bringing him on is criminal

Just look at the last league game he played goal and assist and them stats are the ones that win games

He is poor on the ball and error prone, useful in the air though.

My point was that Hause can’t be the only backup CB, we need another and ideally someone better than him as if we lose either or even both Konsa & Mings then we are in deep trouble. If we can reintegrate Engels then that will help but a Hause & Engels partnership is a worry too.

I know what your saying but the way I see the first team has to be sorted before the squad

I sure every team is in the the same position with the back up options

Sure city even crumbled when they lost laporte last year

  15. 33 minutes ago, Jas10 said:

So maybe Rashica/Sarr and Barkley/RLC for now & then review the squad in Jan and go for a CB and possibly a LB, we still have players to offload too.

We need to get Engels fit & involved as an injury/suspension  to Konsa or Mings will really damage us. Hause always concerns me and we need another CB to cover.

I don’t think it’s a viable option but how did Elmo do at CB? I guess he wasn’t that tested but he is decent in the air, can he fill in adequately?

I don't get this hause hate what do we expect from a back up player

He is the back up for reason I can't expect konsa or mings would be happy as back up or if we do get another he might not be good enough if he happy playing 2nd fiddle

Team stats do yes. Not expected assists when you take every set piece.

Good month Conor. 8 expected assists from wide free kicks pinged off Hause's 50p head and into the corner flag

Yes but the individual has to create the stat for the team

And it's not Conor fault hause can't head a ball straight he can only put it on his head
