It seems almost pointless doesn't it. A constant cycle of managers and players and hundreds of millions spent, for marginal gains.

    :(

Modern football for you. The game is absolutely dead. I genuinely have no interest in the sport.

I thought we missed the calming influence and defensive organisation of Tyrone today. Loads of possession, but we didn't do enough with it and they made the most of what little they had.

Yeah, but Mings is crap according to Dave on Twitter. We don't need him, he shouldn't have the armband and we should sell him, apparently.

  3. Did anyone catch what our fans (at least I think it was our fans) were singing to Smith in the last 5 mins after we got the second goal?

It was to the tune of "he's one of our own". It sounded complimentary but I couldn't make it out.

No we shouldn't go Gung ho that's not what I am saying.

But we should at the every least show some attacking intent.

Seriously that game is one of the most infuriating games I've watched for a long time. 2 of my Liverpool pals boasting over their dominance during the game didn't exactly make things better for me either.

We did. We tried to get forward whenever we could but Liverpool were just too good and able to keep us penned in. We're not on their level yet. Nowhere near it, in fact. They're a different class. I was happy we were able to keep them out for as long as we did and without their penalty, they may never have scored. A few weeks ago we conceded 3 in 10 minutes against one of the lowest scoring teams in the league and 4 at home to West Ham. I think we should just be happy how we defended against, in my opinion the best team in the world.

You are sounding like Steve Bruce here.

Let's keep things tight and maybe we'll nick something.

Would be a daylight robbery if we got something out of that game.

Rest of the games I'm delighted with. Liverpool game not so much.

Righhhhht, so we should have played open and expansive football against the best team in the world? Maybe we should ask Bielsa how that works out.

Also, you do realise that Gerrard stated that we didn't go there to "park the bus". The plan was to go and have a go. But Liverpool were so good we had to alter our plan and try to keep them out, which we did for nearly the whole game. What should we have done? Continued with the game plan and got absolutely hammered?

No offence, but you're talking out of your arse. Have a good day.

And both games resulted in zero points.

You don't get bonus points for keeping the score down. A loss is a loss. The outcome is the same.

And if we had been given that penalty, like we should have been it would most likely have been a point. That's why you keep the score down because it only takes one chance to get something from the game then. Not hard to understand really.

    Incredibly negative set up.

Just sat back and let them do what they want.

Yeah, absolutely correct. We should have gone there with an open game plan and tried to outplay possibly the best team in world football in their own ground. What was Gerrard thinking! 🙄

we looked more organised and motivated, but still fairly toothless and poor in possession until the subs and the goal then with a bit of confidence we looked a different team.

for all the w*nking over Brighton's possession by the commentary all the did was try and bore us to death.

Absolutely agree. It was thee epitome of anti-football from them. Bored me out of my brain. We might not have been great but at least we looked to go forward whenever we could. They were shocking.

  9. This seems so surreal to me. Like when players retire in Football Manager and then become managers and you'd used to say "as if that would ever happen".

Not sure what to think. Sounds like he has a good and modern coaching setup but it's definitely a big risk. What I do like is how the club have just got the job done. They've made their mind up and got it done with no drama. We're not a circus club any more.

Just hope it's the right call. As with anyone else in charge of Villa, I'm fully behind him but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.

Why? He's not proven himself at all at club level and international football is a different kettle of fish.

    A massive no from me.

Proving yourself at club level means the square root of jack now. So many of the managers on the favourites list have "proven" themselves and I wouldn't go near them. Something about the Danish guy tells me he'd be good. Gut feeling.

Football is about winning football matches, that will never change. Smith isn’t and has lost 18 games in 2021.

We are hurtling towards relegation  so he deserves the boot.

Don't care any more. It's a dead sport.

It's the lapses in concentration / being too casual on the ball that let him down. Apart from that he is a monster, a proper defender.

Agreed, but I think Tuanzebe has more of those lapses. Also, Hause is easily our best player in the air. He's a pure beast.
