Did you go to all of those matches Unused Sub? If so, how was Anton Hooper?

Managed to get to 3 games. So Hooper:

    Kiddy - Did alright

Hereford - struggled (like the team in general)

Redditch - was quiet going forward (most attacked were down the other (left) wing).

  2. With the official outlets not covering the U23 preseason friendlies I thought I’d post the general match details. A sort of ‘For the record’ type of thing that the programme used to publish. I’m a player short for the Kidderminster, but if the club sort out player pics on the website I maybe able to ID him.

  3. When to Redditch on Saturday. A really good win, should have been more that 2-0. In control for large parts of the game. So our goals, the first was a free kick from the edge of the area from Vassilev. Looked like it when through the wall. The second was scored by Ramsey, capitalising on a miss placed pass well in the Redditch half. Dribbled towards goal, went by a defender before side footing home from inside the area. In the Secord half we had plenty of chances. Odutayo should had a couple, Guy headed one against the post, Brunt and Vassilev firing over.

Also, ex-villa youth keeper Kieran Boucher played the first 45 for Redditch.

Thank you very much, that would be brilliant! Believe it or not I've collected near enough every Liverpool match report form 1986/87 and I just wish I had when I  was much younger, as they would help now i'm sure.

    No worries Andy

It'll take a few weeks, leave it with me.

From time to time I pop in the archives at Birmingham Library. I can probably get newspaper reports for the matches he played in. They won't be of the highest quality, but will be readable.

If you're interested just shout and I'll see what I can do.

Thanks.  Just a note that you have Bazeley-Graham starting & coming on.  Or maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Yep that's right. Bazeley-Graham started at CB and was subbed at half-time. Late in the game Rowe received a knock and limped off, Bazeley-Graham was subbed back on at left-back.

  7. Hereford FC 1-0 U23’s

With the first team in London, I journeyed down to Hereford to watch the stiffs instead on Saturday. Always fancied an afternoon at Edgar Street. Not sure why. Probably down to their history. One of the pre-runners of Hereford Utd won the Birmingham League in 1897 and it was the worst thing they could have done. Professional clubs hooved up their best players (we pinched the Sharp brothers). Also, it’s a lovely train journey down through the Malvern Hills.

Quite a forgettable match, not much to report. We looked ok first half without carving them open. A mixed second half. Its only preseason, but the team need to start coming into some form ready for the new season. 3 defeats to non-league teams so far this preseason. Redditch won’t be quaking in their boots next week.

Hereford’s goal came from a cross early in the second half. Both their centre forward and Revan going for the ball, Revan heading into the net.

For us, Indy & Walker had decent games. The rest were so-so. Both Indy & Odutayo had chances well saved.

On the injury front, nice to see Bazeley-Graham back. However, Rowe limped off second half.

Also, note Brunt was back in the team, so I assume his loan move has fallen through.

    Team:

Sinisalo (Searle), Walker, Rowe (Bazeley-Graham), Bazeley-Graham (Suliman), Bridge (Revan), Doyle-Hayes (Birch), Vassilev, Brunt (Guy), Sea (Odutayo), Clarke, Hooper (Tait).

I was always under the impression that the end where The North Stand now sits was nothing more than a grassy bank before, but that programme cover suggests something more akin to a smaller Holte End.  Also what was it called before it was The North Stand?

Here's a few photo's of the old Witton End just as building work started on the North Stand in the mid 70's

How was Anton Hooper Unused Sub?

Did ok when he came on down the right. Looked to get infield, his hold up play looked alright, could be a decent centre-forward. He's got the build for it.

  10. Went to Kiddy last night. The first half wasn’t bad, 1-2 scoreline pretty much reflecting the game at that point. Second half was very stop-start. Subs every 5-10 minutes. 10 minutes added on with Bazeley-Graham being stretchered off. Looked very serious.

Their second was a beauty. RHMs goal was a free header from about 6 yards out.

Clarke (as always it seems) had a good game, as did Indy cutting in on his left foot. RHM looked lively in and around the box, but found it hard going with his back to goal. That said, he was up against 3 CBs.

Its the first time I've see Oduayo up close. He's a beast. Not tall, but wide.

A quick note on Alex Prosser in a Kiddy shirt, looked neat & tidy. Only lasted 20 odd minutes before injury ended his night prematurely.

Now then, the teamsheet. The one published had a few changes. Rowe never played. Bridge played LB, with Revan started at CB (LB second half). Burton wore 14, didn’t know who number 21 was (a Josh Onomah look-a-like), I assume the trialist family being represented at 13 (GK) & 22 (RB).

    First Half:

    GK: 1 Sinisalo,

    DF: 2 Walker, 4 Suliman, 5 Revan, 3 Bridge

    DCM: 6 Clarke,

    MF: 7 Vassilev, 8 Brunt, 10 Doyle-Hayes, 11 Cox.

    CF: 9 Hepburn-Murphy,

    Second Half:

    GK: 13 Trialist

    DF: 2 Walker (22 Trialist), 12 Bazeley-Graham (4 Suliman), 15 Birch, 5 Revan (14 Burton)

    DCM: 16 Guy

    MF: 18 Hooper, 21 unknown? 17 Tait, 20 Oduayo

    CF: 19 Sea

I'm not, think its a great opportunity for the youngsters to actually play against first team footballers. The quality of the reserves team leaves a lot to be desired.

Agree with this. Its great for Villa and our youngsters. Unfortunately, its at the expense of the completion as a whole. The cup was set up to help lower league clubs, giving them a cup run and a chance of silverware, also more gate money.

Devaluing the cup has meant attendances have dropped off and also depriving teams of a cup run.
