  1. For what its worth, I voted for the lamp shield. However, when asked if It should replace the current badge I said no. Its all about the lion, the rest is basically like salad on a dinner plate: not fussed at all about it. While I get the basic principle of swapping the direction, its just a non-starter for me. Get our lion to face the right way.

Stats updated. 2 new names in the matchday squad. No DOBs for them yet.  Thierry Katsukunya, a defender we bought for 6 figures off Coventry City last November as a 16 year old came off the bench for a 2 minute cameo at the end. There's slight confusion over his nationality. He's English born but a few youth sites have him down as a Welsh U18 international.  Secondly we had the definitely English (I think...) Abube Onuchukwu, a midfielder who has come through the ranks from u13.  We also had a first matchday appearance of the season for defensive midfielder Todd Alcock and a first also for forward Kyrie Pierre.  So it's fair to say this was a very young side. Indeed the starters alone were on average half a year younger than our previous youngest team this season (18.76 v 19.21 y/o). But it's quite a feat to throw two 3-0 leads away in our first 4 games of the season.

    Thierry Katsukunya –DoB - 20/05/2005.

Has any player ever played two games for Villa as far apart as Ashley Young's debut and the game on Saturday?

Charlie Aitken was just under 15 years from debut to final game - so Ashley beats that.

I'm not sure when Spink's debut was, but he might have a shot at it.

    Who else is there?

    Sid Cowans 1976 to 1993 - 17 years

    Frank Moss (Jnr) 1938 to 1955 - 17 years

    Harry Hampton 1904 to 1920 - 16 years

    Eric Houghton 1930 to 1946 - 16 years

    Nigel Spink 1979 to 1995 - 16 years

Anyone able to explain why that was how they were depicted? Shocking.

The text explaining they were nicknamed the heathens before changing their nickname to the blues.  Something apt about that.

He was generally referred to as ‘Mr Brum’ or ‘The Birmingham ******’

It was a general reference to the Second City, used in cartoon form both football illustrations and wider geography terms in early 20th century newspapers.

Remember that photos in newspapers weren’t a regular thing until the mid to late 1920s. Illustrations was common place before this (and continue to this day).

In the local football newspapers (the Argus or Sporting Mail) you would have little cartoons sections explaining last week’s results or that days fixtures.

Have I just missed it, or have we not done our released list yet?

Nothing as yet, neither the club or the premier league. Its normally the first week in June.

First team fixtures are out next week, I would assume we’d get something before that.

  6. I’d echo what others have said. K.Young looked very lively. Interesting that over the last few weeks we’ve pushed some of the back four into midfield.

Overall, a bit unlucky to come away with nothing. Allen’s goal for Newcastle was really superb, while the winner was a fluke.

Talk of the league going to an U21 format next season (with a limited number of over 21 players) - should suit us.

Around 2011-13 the reserve league was reformated to U21 and a couple of years later was extended to U23 so its not anything new.

Its too long ago to rememeber what the over age limit was back then.

Anyway, overall it shouldn't affect us too much if at all.

Okay, a hands up on the Southgate question - the group collects bits and pieces as they happen and then puts them together into the questions in the days in advance of the meeting. The Southgate question was based around a handful of comments on various websites and to a large extent to the reaction to the birthday tweet on Twitter - that reaction was horrendously bad with hundreds of negative comments - however, this is perhaps an important reminder that Twitter is not real life and that we almost definitely shouldn't be putting any weight behind comments that appear there - we won't in future.

I made the notes for this meeting and added the question to the agenda which was reviewed by the group and passed on to the club, so this one's on me - I let the noise get the better of me and got this one wrong - sorry.

    Thanks for the notes OBE.

Yeah, it’s a petty issue (although I will say the last 31 of those 191 appearances were somewhat tainted, but that’s something for another day!). The thing is Mellberg shares his birthday, as does the GK coach Cutler, aswell as FA Cup winner Stan Crowther.

The solutions are there, the hate would have been diluted.

I think its more a case of whether the club has any overall structure/organisation to whats put on twitter or whether its more ad hoc. What information does the twitter team have at their disposal and who signs off/approves them before they tweet.

It’s the same with the U23/21/18’s teams. I assume the twitter team can’t communicate if they don’t have the information to pass on. We tend to get decent info for the Premier League 2 games, but next to nothing for Birmingham Senior Cup. Whats the procedure? Are the different departments within the club not allowed to talk to one another?

I think it's worth pointing out that Anwar El Ghazi's 3 goals this season have moved him into the top 100 Aston Villa goalscorers of all time on 26 goals for the club.

It moves him up from joint 109th to joint 95th alongside Tammy Abraham (18/19), Derek Dougan(61/63), Colin Gibson(48/55), Jack Mandley(29/34), John Cowen(1895/99) & Bob Chatt(1893/97).

    I'm 1 goal out. Doh!

    Thats my afternoon sorted then.....

  10. A few things:

Transport – I know its not the clubs fault. 45 minute wait at Aston Station to get back to the city centre isn’t good. Could the club put on buses (that could use the mostly empty bus lanes!) that could ferry people back to the centre quickly. Have the club liaised with other clubs that run such schemes?

Website – Sylla is still on the OS as one our U18 players. Furthermore, give the club a bollocking over the BSC coverage. Also, thank the club for putting the Brighton highlights on youtube. I assume they’ll be doing the same for the upcoming fixtures?

Communications – the club put a statement out at a few months ago about supporters should bring evidence of their covid jabs with them to the game. No one at the ground has ever asked me about this. Can the club confirm if they are doing this on matchdays?

  11. 1-2 FT

Not a bad game to watch. Sloppiness at the back was our major downfall, lost count of how many times we gave the ball away in dangerous areas. Looked good on the break, just couldn’t get the final pass away. Very noticeable how deep Caleb got second half in order to get in the game.

Thorndike was the stand out for me (unlucky to hit the post with a free kick), closely followed by Feeney.

Caleb’s goal was jammy, just a closed down the goalie and deflected off him into the net.

Theirs were a pen and a direct free kick. They should have had a couple more second half.

    Team:

Zych, Ealing, Patterson (sub Barber), Zito, Feeney, Lindley, Firth, Hart (sub O’Reilly), Chukwuemeka, Thorndike, Goodridge (sub Afoka). Unsed Subs: Alcock, Wright.

Note on the attendance, 1946, which is Stourbridge’s highest by some way this season.

Chris Nee has been kind enough to send me on the proper goalscorer & substitution info so I'll update that tomorrow. What I can say is Frith did indeed score a hattrick.

Awesome. I’ve put some feelers out, but haven’t seen anything yet for a proper line-up/subs/scorers. If you know the subbed players aswell then just give us a quick shout please. Thanks.

I had planned to go but West Midland Trains had other ideas!
