  1. After the Blackburn game Aston Villa have 60 points out of a possible 117. The final projected points total will currently be 71 points that is points after 46 games. Basing this off last seasons final table will put us 9th.

There is still 21 points to play for giving us a maximum potential points haul of 81 points.

Since the appointment of Dean Smith the new projected points total would be 72 points that is points after 46 games. That has included of 1.25 PPG from Steve Bruce and the current 1.66PPG from Smith. Using 1.66PPG over the remaining 7 games.

  2. Mings proper endears himself to us fans. I hope he just isn't saying the right things! I think he would come to Villa over a different Premier League team even if we didnt get promoted. Or I have completely bought into the beast.

  3. After the Middlesbrough game Aston Villa have 57 points out of a possible 114. The final projected points total will currently be 69 points that is points after 46 games. Basing this off last seasons final table will put us 9th.

There is still 24 points to play for giving us a maximum potential points haul of 81 points.

So you watched him when he was 16 years old (he replaced Benteke when we beat Sunderland 4-0) and you are now writing him off?

He's been putting in some good performances for Cambridge and scored his first goal at the weekend. He's only 20 years old and has loads of time yet, he needs to bulk up and gain a bit of strength as Grealish did but there is a very good player in there.

Sadly I agree with Rigo, he is only 20 but by now you would hope he would of made some football news of some sort and not his debut league goal at the age of 20. Comparisons Abraham is only 21 and on 21 goals, to rewind further at the age of 19 hit 23 goals for Bristol City. I hope he isn't leading the line for us next season as he needs another season loan elsewhere to see how he does over an entire season.

Not ruling him out yet, but the candle of hope is flickering.

  6. McGinn will likely be a beast at LB. With his defensive ass movement and his mental strength "Thou shall not pass" attitude! God help the RM/RW of Birmingham if this is the case.

    Next three games are huge.

Smash the next 3 games. Its the 3 after, that worries me. Its the Dean Smith way. Brilliant against the teams we should have a battle against and we drop points against the teams we should roll over.

  8. Smith has to do something that he has only done once before in his time with Villa, and that's to win back to back games. I hope he does and the Derby game does kick start our Fulham-esque charge up the table at the business end of the season. Taking the form we need to get into the top 6 into the plays offs will make us strong favourites for promotion.

  9. After the Derby game Aston Villa have 48 points out of a possible 105. The final projected points total will currently be 63 points that is points after 46 games. Basing this off last seasons final table will put us 12th.

There is still 33 points to play for giving us a maximum potential points haul of 81 points.

Since the appointment of Dean Smith the new projected points total would be 64 points that is points after 46 games. That has included of 1.25 PPG from Steve Bruce and the current 1.43PPG from Smith. Using 1.43PPG over the remaining 11 games.

Had his quarterly good game. I don’t want to detract from what was a great performance but he’s so frustrating. 9 games out of 10 he offers absolutely nothing, can’t pass, can’t command the midfield, can’t move, can’t tackle. Replacing him would be a priority for me. We need to shore up the midfield and he’s a big part of the problem (more do a problem than Whelan I’d say who I don’t think deserves the stick he gets). I don’t really get Hourihane’s role in the team. We have a holding midfielder, we have attacking midfielders and Hourihane’s main job seems to be to occasionally get the ball then lose it and then fluff most free kicks and corners.

This is so negative about Hourihane and must include your own bias against the player.

Hourihane isnt a DM and played much further up the pitch and did well. His freekicks are fluffed often.....really??? Surely one of his main strengths. Find me a better freekick taker in this league.

Personally i have never said anything bad about him. Yesterdays performance wasnt a suprise. He is limited as a player but in a defensive sense. Cracking 2 million pound player. Long may this contibue.

Anyone fancy betting against Birmingham finishing above us even if they get a 12 point deduction?

Yeah but our squad is tripe. Birmingham mights as well be Man City. Dean Smith is so unfortunate.

  12. This season has been a weird season, all teams beating each other and no one standing out completely.

Next season, Stoke will likely to start coming good, plus one of WBA, Leeds or Sheffield United still here competing. The 3 relegated teams. Plus Villa now signing young players in the hope they come good, even though are own young players aren't good enough to step up. I think 9 points off at January is likely to happen with Smith in charge.

The Smith critics message day in and day out about how he can not achieve anything other than midtable. Which is fine, I respect their opinion even though it’s the same thing repeated over and over again.

Yet not one of you will accept my bet that if he remains in charge in the summer we will be challenging for top 2 next season.

    £10 to VT. Whos game?

Every day of the week, I would take this bet. Even on a % base it will hugely favour me.

So you didn't watch the games where our style and attacking play was as good as anything I have seen in the last 10 years?

Is that not potential to you??

Dean Smith is full of potential. Its if he can bring it to the pitch.

Adam Johnson, Jack Rodwell and the Moore brothers had potential...

Just playing Devil's Advocate as we can't all heap praise on Dean Smith without questions until he gives enough of a reason to do it. That's why the fan base are so split on him, all want a successful Villa, different ways of expressing it.

He wasn't managing Aston Villa, you can't just extrapolate like that.

Just like players, promising managers are given the chance to prove themselves at a bigger club. It may not work out, but by no means is it a forgone conclusion that he is going to have Villa hovering in midtable just because that's where he was with smaller clubs.

His current games this season, managing a big club like Aston Villa also has a 1.36 PPG ratio. Puts us 12th over an entire season. He even stated that Villa have an embarrassment of quality when he first started, where did the quality disappear to? Or can we not use this information cause it doesn't fit the blind following of Dean Smith.

His previous record at "smaller clubs" and his time so far at Villa has been mid table. I can't believe in fantasy and if I use any information available about his previous results it all leads to the same place. Like it or not, its very mediocre.

I don't want him sacked and I hope he turns it around. Imo we will finish mid table, for every Middlesbrough game there's a Wigan game.

The 11th place finish with a smaller team in the same league is actually directly comparable to Smith's situation. Let the man actually get on with his job before you decide where he'll finish. "He'll finish midtable because that's where he did with other teams under completely different circumstances" is just weak.

Its not weak. We can only go off his past finishes for a comparison and its pretty mediocre. We will also finish somewhere mediocre.

There is absolutely nothing in his past to suggest otherwise. He may finish next season top and he could also finish bottom. In likelihood we will probably finish 8th to 15th cause thats his current ball park.

  17. The players out of contract next season is such a poor excuse. Players don't need to play cause they won't be here next season, right? This is the premise that is being put forward.

How about the players out of contract, should want to play for the shirt even more than those here for a few extra seasons. Cause you know there's the chance of winning a new contract, lets call it Alan Hutton Syndrome, he keeps getting new contracts for playing his way into it. Also its a big shop window and no one else will take a punt on a poor team player either.
