When is his return date? After the international break?
-
He is a midtable defender in a midtable team. We need an upgrade at some point, probably in the summer.
I can cope with his odd mistake, it's him continually slowing the pace of the game down by taking 4 touches that annoys me.

7/10 as a defender
2/10 as anything going forward.
With Gerrards style if play with the front 3 being narrow, your fullbacks need to ge attacking. I'd suggest tge first signing in hand will be to replace targett.

I know he **** your mrs but he's gone now, let it go.
Spot on. There's more to this dislike than football.

My understanding is that if one was filled in for Burnley, that's still valid.

Tin hat on, I actually have no issue if we moved to a brand new stadium in the city centre and left Villa Park.
(I’m braced and ready).
I agree. The elements of the ground which are positive are outweighed by the negative. Before anyone attacks
North stand - crap
Witton - crap
Holte - isn't what it was
Trinity- destroyed in redevelopment.
The feel of our ground could easily be recreated to a better standard in a better location.

Oh come on. It's not like he took Greenock Morton to the champions league, is it?
Not saying he did, but what league were Rangers in when he look over, what financial position were they in.
I'm not saying he's what Cruyff was to Barca but surely you can admit that he has done a good job?

There's some bizarre responses on here.
He is a young hungry coach, who has dragged a team to the top of Scottish football. OK , it's Scottish, does that mean we shouldn't sign Scottish players either?
He is a Scouser who is clearly a Liverpool fan. I don't care! The only way he is getting to Anfield is if he does a super job with Villa.
In terms of him not supporting the club, when is they a prerequisite for being a manager? I'm assuming Dean Smith will work again. Is Klopp a Liverpool fan?
We were never going to attract a top manager because we are not a top team. We are battling relegation haven't been in Europe in decades haven't won a trophy in 25 years.
The fact that some posters are being so critical is hilarious. Do you know something that no one else does?

I'd consider Gérard a genuine possibility.

Yeah he's doing really shit with palace tbf.....
Based on 15 games. He might end up being amazing, but it's too early to hold him as a new wenger.

Not that im arguing with you but before the season started everyone was saying what an amazing transfer window we'd had. What's changed?
I think we were all wrong. Bailey, Buendia have looked poor, there was clearly no rationale behind Ings.
The failure to improve the midfield......well.

Can't believe people are suggesting viera etc, he fulfills none of the criteria

I'm always amazed at posters wider football knowledge. (genuinely).
I have no idea of Foncescas Favre etc footballing philosophy.
It's about continuing to create an identity for our play / club. I'm not sure what that is at the moment.
I do wonder how many injuries will suddenly clear up with a new manager to impress.
As much as Smith got himself sacked the players haven't covered themselves in glory.

Really sad. Inevitable given the results. Genuinely worried who we are going to get next.
If anyone thinks this squad is challenging for anything but survival, they're hideously misinformed.

Can understand the calls for Smith to go, and tbh I'm not sure that even his biggest fans could argue against it.
But, with 4/5 starters absent, 2/3 starters hideously out of form, and subs bench full of kids.
I wouldn't bank on whoever comes in doing much better.

Why is it that some Villa fans have to ask other Villa fans who should replace the manager? Is that you believe there are no other managers available in the world? Amazing that other teams don't seem to have a problem getting a replacement manager!
Well I think he'll be gone soon.
It's part of the same argument, do you think DS should be sacked? Yes
who do you think should replace him? I'm not telling you.
Its a discussion forum. To share opinions and the rationale behind them. You only sack someone with someone better ready to come in.
I hope you have a lovely evening.

Not my job to pick the next manager. That's down to the owners.
Ah come on now. You're not shy at suggesting he should be sacked which is the owners job.

Smith doesn't know his best team, his best formation or his best tactics. He is totally lost without his golden boy Grealish who he has planned everything around for 3 seasons and he is clearly missing his 2 departed coaches. If the guy had any decency he would quit while there is still enough of the season left for a decent manager to get us up the table.
Who would you suggest?

I don’t really get Mings being dropped.
Problem is the captain is meant to be the steadying force _ that isn't mings! He appears as stressed during games as villa twitter.
