used to watch Porridge for the references to Villa.
Remember there was a brilliant scene in spooks referencing the mighty Villa.

Away game please I'm on my hols.

Lescott.
Xia Ellis
Can cope with players like Collymore who had bigger issues than football.
lI'll remember the capitulation against Liverpool and then Lescotts tweet! One of many Self serving lazy sods.

I don't think we will be holding on to them, Sanson was let go on loan as he wanted regular first team football fair play to him. I'd be surprised if Marv and Davis were to be in Unai's plans.
I don't disagree but our squad is painfully thin. I don't think they would be Unais first choice, but I don't think we will sign half a dozen players.
-
Thought we'd see a lot of the on loan older players- Nakamba / Sanson / Davis etc go, but with needing almost 2 teams next season, could be reason to keep them, at least until we sign replacements. You only have to look at the bench yesterday to see how short we are in attacking options.

Superb today. Amazing what happens when you have a system which lets footballers play football.

I'd keep Emery over any of the players.
Emi is gone in the Summer anyway.

Obviously hope we sign the right players if available. Getting rid of deadwood is still part of a successful window.

Thought it was really clever to put Cash on r midfield. Nullified sessegnon, and gave us a good outlet.

For me
Bruce - when hourihane equalised with a last gasp free kick (Bolton?), and he didn't move an inch.
DOL we won at blues and he ignored the fans and went to where Ellis was sitting.
I may have got games wrong they all blur into one

I think it's really proactive getting ready for the championship this early.

Nah. He started moving to the left to deal with what appeared to be a cross, then had to reach back right across his body for the save after Konsa deflected it...that's why he didn't control the ball.
Ok.

"Jas said", really?
Do you have a view yourself, or are you just filtering the negative from twitter?

Don't let the score confuse the issue. That could have been embarrassing in the first half.
We came into it when they stopped pressing.
We scored, they pressed they scored again!

Howlers? The deflection off Konsa (again) threw him off for the first. The second was from point blank range by a completely unmarked player and he did well to get a hand to it. He was my MOTM.
you don't think the first was a mistake?

I don’t mind the lineup that much. It’s how they’re being asked to play that is ruining us. We won’t have much of the ball this game so if we can frustrate them and hit on the break we could nick something.
Just please don’t concede from a set piece!
Spot on.
I'm not defending mcginn etc because they're not playing well but the formation really puts players in unnatural positions.
-
This isn't about mcginn. It's Gérard fault.

This will be my only post on the matter (I'll copy it into the Gerrard thread).
We controlled the first half and the corner non-goal was a big struck of bad luck.
After 60 minutes we didn't have enough to threaten, the successes were neutralised, and whilst the goal was a huge slice of luck, we didn't have the impetus to break them down (which isn't solely a Gerrard problem FWIW). We are not very good at that - my overall concern is the lackadaisical tactical approach.
I am not a reactionary, nor one to easily change opinions with the wind, I just don't think we will see the progress we want.
On a different day we win this, sadly it wasn't to be.
I think the board did right sacking Smith and I think they need to be equally brave. But they need to bring in someone with fresh ideas - at least we have Critchley to occupy in the short term.
We aren't in danger of relegation by any stretch, it's just the meandaring that compells change at this point.
I'm out
UTV.
On a different day we win this? What's that based on?
We aren't in danger of relegation.Really? We really are, awful tactics upset players, creating nothing. That's relegation.

Don't blame the players. You can tell he's lost them
Stevie time to go.

Mcginns fault.

Ancelotti (a 4 time CL winning manager) went to Everton and they haven't either.
Fair point.

Everyone’s favorite Simon Jordan thinks Poch could end up at Villa, lol.
Would love it but can't see it.

When was he not welcomed?
At Villa Park? After his first few games that were all wins?
Read my post again. I never said he wasn't welcomed, I actually said he was welcomed, but for a particular reason.
4 hours ago, Tomaszk said:What is the approach he offered that differs from Smith (who was correctly dismissed)? Being shit?
Smith's approach wasn't working, everyone, even those like myself, who were massive fans of his. SGs style and set up at Rangers was different, it isn't working out, but it offered a different approach modelled on Liverpool.
4 hours ago, Tomaszk said:Less of an issue as they are capable managers.
Gerrard is not and wasn't when he was appointed.
He was a capable manager / coach. It hasn't worked out, but it doesn't make him, shit, clueless or a clown. All words used ( not necessarily by you), to describe him on this forum. It's these extreme reactions which make the discussions pointless. It's the same with some of the players. There can be shades of grey.
4 hours ago, Tomaszk said:He'd had some time at one of the better teams in Scotland and eventually won one title when the other side blew up.
So he won then?
4 hours ago, Tomaszk said:If we hired Pocc, it wouldn't be here's a big name. It would be here's a top manager.
I agree, but there's no way a Champions League manager is coming to a club who haven't played in Europe in the last 2 decades.
Fwiw, I'm not a fan of SG. I see no pattern/ plan. I think the football is negative and boring to watch. I think unless there's massive recruitment, or a change in tactics, we are massively in trouble this year.

We need to sign players, but they need to be players who were under consideration long term anyway. There's no way we can lose Beundia and Mings for a season (potentially) and do nothing. Knee jerk signings will screw us for 3 to 4 years.
