OMG. I actually recognise all the club names there, despite the fact that that was 100 years ago.
This is what makes English football unique in this world.
The history of football clubs here is probably longer than most countries (in current forms) in this world.

I agreed with most of your points, Tro. But I am not sure about this one.
It is true that manager cannot contribute directly to goals, but what he can do is to influence the probability of good/bad things happening on the pitch. If we look at the substitutions that SB made on Tuesday, he delivered a VERY strong signal to all players that he wanted to take 3 points. This was why we saw our LB and RB were still pushing high up till 90th minute. It is to their credit that they still have the energy to run forward, but it was also down to the 'encouragement' by the tactics that SB showed very clearly to all players.
Let's imagine this - if SB wanted to get 1 point on Tuesday, then he will make different types of subs (focusing on strengthen our defense), and would have told our LB/RB to stay in positions. Then Elmo may not run as if he was chased by a tiger behind, then Snodgrass may not have the space to cut in, then we may not have taken 3 points back home.
I know all those are just based on assumptions, and I agree Snoddy may still score even if Elmo did not make that run. But the probability to score will go down a lot if he had one defender close to him when he cut in.
In my opinion, SB showed on Tuesday exactly how a manager can influence the results of a football match.

3 of those with some against teams in the top 8, so hasn't been easy. Amazing run.
Had a look at a Derby forum last week and they barely seemed to think we were a threat. Bet they do now.
If our recent form continues, I think it will be Fulham, rather than Derby, who will compete against us for automatic promotion in the end.

Where's the meet up for a good old fashioned brawl? Wherever it is I will be there once it's all finished, approximately 7 hours after it's finished.
Why? Was there any ‘incident’ before between the two clubs or is it just the reputation of some Millwall fans?
Just curious as I know little about history of English football.

Really look forward to the match, but I am really worried about this:

Have to be honest here - I have absolutely no idea what the hell he is going on about in that presentation. It looks like it could be scrawled in shit by a disgruntled employee on a bathroom wall in Canary Wharf.
Brilliantly bonkers. I love it.
Haven’t seen you for a while on VT, DDID.

Read this in a Newcastle Takeover story:
Potentially good news for us?

yes. Also some news recently that Newcastle United is up for sale and potential buyers include a couple of Chinese consortia. If the news is true (i.e. not made up by Newcastle owners to bargain with potential buyers), then It is likely that the foreign investment ban will be mitigated, if not completely lifted.
It will have little effect on Villa though, as the further investment will not benefit us too much this season until we get promoted.

1 hour ago, Barney_avfc said:The stats-based Sky Sports Predictor is tipping Leeds for Championship glory and for Aston Villa to finish 17th.
Sky and BBC really don't like us do they? We don't care!
If you look closer at their stats:
for us finishing the 1st: 1%; top 2: 3%; top 6: 12%.
which means:
we win the league: 1%
finishing 2nd: 2%
finishing 3/4/5/6: 9% in total.
Surely the chances should go higher in a non-linear fashion for lower places? Finishing the 2nd 2% and finishing 3-6 only 9% (average speaking, 2.25% for each position between 3-6)? So basically the prediction says that the odds of us finishing 1/2/3/4/5/6 position are almost the same..... One would expect the probability of our final position on the league table to be close to Gaussian distribution (maybe an asymmetrical one), but not this type of shit.
This makes no sense at all.

I really want this to get to 1000 pages before he is sacked. Don't know why.
32 pages to go before reaching 1000 pages from 968 (current page). It took 8 days from page 936 till 968.
so you want to have 8 days before SB is sacked?
No, thank you. Not even 1 more day!
(although SB is likely to have more than 8 days if he wins tomorrow, sadly)

Gus Poyet just became available. What do people think of him?
I think he is poor, but it may just be me....

If after 11 months, yes 11 not 6 or 9 Steve, the board intend to allow a single game at home against Middlesbrough to influence their descision, then I despair.
it is just the last straw. Plus those who have been defending for SB (unfortunately they have power in the club) cannot defend anymore if we lose again.
A young, tactically-capable and enthusiastic manager is what we need. I very much doubt that SB has assistants that can train players well, so the new manager has to have a team coming with him.
Let's hope we can see an OA the morning after the next game.

I hope we lose the next match so we can say bye to him. I know it is bad to hope for a loss but I really do.
The type of football we played was a disaster.

The reason why some complained about Elmo is simply because he cannot get any support from RB, whilst Green still has LB helping him to create room.
why can't we have Bree on as RB, ffs.
bree on, samba off. 60", Lansbury on, onomah off, then that is our best attacking formation when opponents are becoming tired.
-
I cant remember we ever played 3/5 defenders system in any game last season and this. From the squad we have, 3/5 defender system seems to be the most suitable so I hope Bruce can deal with the new formation well.
good luck Steve for the game ahead. A massive game for him.
A massive one for all of us.

Things seem to be completed on Snodgrass case.
Now we can make some progress on McCormack's case. A season loan with a buy-out clause seems likely and ideal for us.

maybe Snodgrass has a choice to stay or to go?
the right decision maybe "go-ing to us" ??????
he should mean 'hopefully getting this player into Villa is a good decision for us'. this kinda shows his lack of confidence, not on the player, but rather due to recent pressure and criticism.
never watch Snodgrass play but I hope he is good too.

I haven't changed my expectation on him.
5 goals and 5 assists this season.
And it looks even more likely.

Who scouted Keinan before we bought him last year? Was that someone from old scouting system or the new one?
whoever found this young lad from lower division needs to be rewarded and should be promoted in the scouting team.

Shame that sky will not have this game on their match day live.
Currently both teams topping the form table.
