  1. I've rated Stevens in the friendlies, I think higher than a lot of people seem to have, so I'd like to see if he has the chops to confidently take the left back position.
I'd love Stevens to flourish but I wasn't impressed with his positioning in the games I've seen. Test him in the league cup games and reserves but I'm not sure about him just yet. A bit like Lichaj a couple of years ago.

^ this pic is going around..

Looks like Mccleish is trying to sneak back in.

 Vlaar is the man to stop him.

From the look of that picture he is too slow ;)

Head down as well. No chance he could spot a good pass. Hoofer.

    Lambert out.

  3. Fans are likely to turn up (or not) according to how excited they are at the prospect of going to a game. A bigger stadium would add to the excitement.
Although I agree there must be people who'd get excited enough by a bigger VP to start buying tickets, I'd say there's only about twelve of them. People go to VP to watch football, not gaze lovingly at the architecture.

How many empty seats we happened to have last season is almost irrelevant imo.

    Madness.

  4. Daniel - they said the game would be up at 10am GMT.

    Edit: link.

The entire 90 minutes from Philadelphia Union v Villa, Chicago Fire v Villa and Portland Timbers v Villa will be available in the morning UK time - 10am for Philadelphia and Chicago and 12noon for Portland.

Apologies for the delay in bringing you footage of last night's game on ‪#AVTV‬. We are working to resolve the technical issues. ‪#AVFC

Shit happens. It will be there.

If I'm late meeting a friend, I don't expect them to check my Twitter feed for an update.

Some of us have signed up to watch these games, and re-arranged our schedules to fit them in.

  5. Are you going for Warnock based on his experience cause i wouldn't say he was any better than Stevens today...

He was better. Stevens didn't do much for forty minutes. I used to play RB and I wanted to see how my namesake is getting on so I spent most of the half watching him. He was caught watching the ball a few times, and rarely ran into the space after making a pass. At one point in particular N'Zog was in trouble in the box (and the trouble lasted about 20 seconds, as it always does with Zoggy) and Stevens would have been in a fantastic position to whip in a cross had he moved about ten yards forward. He just stood there.

He is a bit of a Championship-level player atm but he has potential. He reminds me a bit like Lichaj a couple of years ago. Really hope Enda improves his positioning a bit so he can challenge Warnock, because that wally really needs competition. I watched the Everton match at home the other day. Warnock was shocking.

But anyway, on the basis of today, the spot is still Warnock's to lose imho.

Benty needs to up his game, from what i saw he was crap.

    First game in six months.

  6. To give people who didn't see the match a sense of who did well, based on that the starting 11 against WHU would be

    ---------------Given---------------

    Lichaj---Collins--Clark--Warnock

    -------Bannan-KEA-Herd---------

    Holman----------------------Zigzag

    ---------------Bent-----------------

Maybe drop Herd and go 4-4-2 with Gabby up front. No great surprises then.

  7. KEA looked class. Great to constantly see him hovering near our box to pick up the ball. Makes it far harder to justify hoofball, a tactic which Hutton has clearly been trying to perfect while spending the summer in Burger King.

Enda Stevens is a bit of a ball watcher isn't he? A couple of very good crosses from him, though.

Daniel Johnson was lively, but fairly crap.

  9. About four hours later, I'm starting to resurface. What a waste of space that afternoon was!

Villajax - I live a two minute walk from my department so I go home for lunch.

  10. It's lunchtime here. My head's been a bit dozey all day and I need to get a good bit of work done so I went to take a Neurofen.

Grabbed a packet from my medicine drawer, popped it out and washed it down with a glass of water.

Realised that my Neurofen are in a bottle on the table, not a packet in the drawer. I just ate a sleeping tablet.

    Balls.

  11. No, no it's not.

It's hysterical responses like yours that make me so furious about the loony political correctness that has swamped our society over the last 10 years.

It is a perfectly valid argument to suggest that a team may be stronger with a spine of home grown players. Of course it doesn't always bear true, but a reasonable stance for someone to take without having the term racist bandied about.

Frankly I find your accusation incredibly offensive and if I was the OP it was aimed at would have been absolutely furious. I mainly just lurk these threads but outrageous statements like the one you have made make me incandescent. I am afraid you are talking utter, utter shite.

I hope you sleep on it and come back and retract your comment tomorrow.

Suffice at this point to say: I disagree.

Mods: before I go to the trouble of arguing this point (which can't be done briefly, but I don't think VT should be the place where that sort of casual prejudice is flaunted so I'd give it a go) can I get permission to go a million miles OT? Fair enough if you want to stay on topic, I can just drop it.
