    Was good seeing him back.

Was dodgy for the first few minutes but grew into the game.

Him and the other flair lads seem to understand each others movement!

His not good enough don’t think we will see him again .

I think you are right to suggest we don't go overboard, but....

They are fighting for their lives and on the back of 3 wins,  we are midtable and semi safe....that was set up for a banana skin.

I thought there was some good things from us today, despite the sloppy positioning to deny us the clean sheet.....The 3 moments leading to the 3 goals were class, as is usually the case, as we don't do many tap ins......but the game management was a step up imo.

Turf Moor, is not an easy place to go, when they are facing relegation.....I thought some of our work was professional like, today.

I agree it’s farcical we’re expected to turn up at Turf Moor and just turn Burnley over. They were on a good run , 3-1 away is a good result it was a better performance and the team looked more balanced.
I really feel thou if SG dragged us into the top 4 it just wouldn’t be good enough for some.

  3. I’m struggling why he continues with 4-3-3 when we’re pinned back and play very narrow and we don’t have aggressive ball winner in midfield . We’re not good enough to play so many flair players didn’t understand the subs when we were looking to regain some control we put on Bailey and Traoore both ineffective. He has got to learn quickly from this and adapt next season as we will be very quickly worked out .

We won the transfer window in the summer according to the press. We won it in January according to the press. They could see that our purchases were decent and were going to push up the quality in the squad.

So why can't these players play to their potential. These players who said that the training was much more intense and focussed. And whose manager said that he would have a mini preseason 3 weeks ago in order to put all of his information over to his players so they can fully understand the system and get them fitter.

If it isnt the quality of the players , if it isnt because we have multiple injuries , and if it isn't the quality of the training taken by Michael Beale then what are we left with. The quality of the tactics.

And those tactics are already being shown to not work with the players we have at our disposal. They worked at first but teams have worked us out already it seems.

I was hoping the players true understanding of the system would enable them to play around teams setting up against us but it hasnt happened.

I agree but we need to give them more time. Patience and time are never given commodities in Football but fans have to accept we’re again in transition .

I think that's why we have a different atmosphere to anfield 😉

Not sure what the numbers are for the wools as they call them up there but they have the day trippers, the families and the tourists who I would lazily guess aren't paying their £500 for a family day out to get on fabinhos back when he gives the ball away or fill the place with nervous energy with 10 mins left

The demographic of our crowd is very different, I would guess we have a vast majority of 20 to 60 year old men who from my experience have got increasingly drunk for the matches over the years as we've slipped in to being a bit of a nothing club

I think that’s a little harsh TBH . I think the demographics would be  pretty similar .

Well I think we should hold ourselves to account and I'd also rate a respected member of the squad to say "we really feel it when the crowd get nervous - we play far better when there's a bit of positivity and patience." I mean something like that is hardly abrasive?

I think Mings secretly doesn't appreciate it. "May your praise be as loud as your disrespect" RE: El Ghazi. Few other cryptic things about our fans I think too from him - I don't blame him.

I remember reading something from an ex coach/player who said (paraphrasing): "Keep it tight at Villa Park for 30 mins and you'll get something cos the fans will moan." I forget who it was, but they ain't wrong. Unless we come firing out the traps the atmosphere usually becomes dead/negative if 0-0 or 0-1 for 20/30 mins, depending on who we play.

Just wish people tried to enjoy supporting us and had some fun singing - I'd rather lose 0-3 with the fans singing til the end (this has happened) than lose 0-1 and everyone shouting abuse, but maybe that's just me. It's a modern football thing but also definitely worse than most grounds.

I agree - not sure about loosing and singing till the end but your other points are spot on . The  team are not playing well it’s agreed but the negative atmosphere will never help. Not sure it’s a modern football thing been to other grounds where the crowd will stick with the team  , it’s supporting .

I think my point still stands, the Anfield fans aren’t always behind the team despite what the media portray.  I’ve been at the ground when the Liverpool fans are getting on the players backs in a similar way to how it’s being discussed we are on here.  Now they are doing well it’s easy to be positive but when they weren’t their fans weren’t always behind the team.

I give up - read the post my point was in response about VP  atmosphere if you think we have a better atmosphere or comparable to Anfield then I need to stay in the Aston social till half time and drop a few more cheeky Vimtos.

Disagree with that, I’ve been to many away days to Anfield over the last four decades and heard some quietness on a few occasions when things aren’t going so well.  It’s fine now when the team are rocking and having great play but pre-Klopp it wasn’t always rosy some seasons.

Out of context - read the post

Win some games, score some goals and see the crowd lift, listen to the singing and the roars of positivity. Stop trying to blame us fans. Man City and Liverpool are success and they do it with a quieter crowd than we have.

If the players try harder, so will the fans to support them.

Disagree a little here even when Liverpool are struggling or having an off day the Kop  always behind the team . It’s 50 - 50 partnership has to be , it’s so negative down VP even at the start of games . I may be getting old but the atmosphere isn’t what it used to be . The crowd have to have some input and it can’t be negative. If the villa away day fans and atmosphere they create could be created even a little at VP it would lift the whole place .
not blaming the fans but my point is we have a part to play even when times are tough.

  10. It’s difficult one this , I do believe it’s up to the players to raise the crowd  thru effort a tackle or a pass , but Villa Park these days is relatively quiet unless aroused by the team . A quiet villa park feeds down onto the pitch and players will become naturally nervous . We can argue they paid enough to work thru this and cope with it . Travelling around the country I do see teams in worst positions on the field and off compared to  us with the crowd still behind the team creating an atmosphere . This is not the case at VP unfortunately even yesterday the crowd was pretty subdued even before the KO .  We can blame the players of course we pay good money but I do think the crowd could have more positive effect to the team even when things are not going well by singing more….

  11. I don’t normally leave games early but I did today before the Watford goal . After Newcastle performance I was expecting the changes SG said would happen and a reaction from the squad . Didn’t get anything we were out fought by WATFORD TEAM who were dreadful. Really not sure we can persist with the 4 3 3 much longer it simply isn’t working with the light weight midfield we currently have .
SG needs to seriously review where we go from here and the formation , we can’t continue to generate nothing with the attacking options we have .

Nakamba has played around 70 games for us and we’ve lost quite a few of them. He was good those four games before the injury, but why was that?

Some like the Birmingham Mail claim he was ”transformed” by Gerrard. How? Magical powers? I saw a Nakamba in great physical shape, playing the same way he always does: patrolling an area outside the box and making tackles.

It worked well because Villa in those games were set up to primarily defend. We played some difficult sides and more or less handed over possession (low 30s), defending in a tight and narrow block while the opposition passed the ball around us, sideways and out on the flanks.

Do we want to go back to playing like that? Against difficult teams we probably should and Nakamba has traditionally done well against the best teams where Villa spend much of games under attack. But do we want to hand over possession and spend most of the game defending in a tight block against teams like Watford, Burnley or even Southampton?

Gerrard says he wants us to become a more possession oriented side. We haven’t seen much of that yet. With Nakamba such a change could be even more difficult, even though he’s a great ball winner, since he’s not very comfortable is possession and definitely not when pressed (few of our players are actually).

I also look forward to Nakamba returning  but feel some have unrealistic expectations based on those four games. He will likely be the same Nakamba with strengths and weaknesses, not a player forever transformed after a few training sessions with Gerrard in November.

To be fair he was in and out of the side under Smith . He did have some really good performances. I think Gerrard liked him and was keen to play him . Your point about his ability when on the ball and being pressed are correct.

No one will want to come. Especially if we go down.

We are not going down mate .
we just signed Courtinio on loan because of SG and have attracted interest from players we wouldn’t normally  be associated with . The club I think is moving in the right direction with ambitious owners . But it won’t happen overnight . Today was poor but I’ve seen enough to think we will and are improving. It’s completely ridiculous some of the comments and reactions on this board .

He's on a long contract and is highly rated by the board. He'll be here next season barring an absolute disaster.

This game and the Brentford game have been very  disappointing . We have to give SG some time  and some patience .

McGinn is the one I'm singling out. I'm fed up with him. Get's away with his poor performances when Luiz and Mings are never allowed play badly without being called out.

Chukwuemeka, Sanson and Ings need to start the next game. Bailey is a fraud imo and he'll turn out to be the biggest waste of money we've seen at the club so I don't want him given minutes.

McGinn and Luiz just need to be got rid of from a starting team if we are ever going to be anything other than bang average side. McGinn has had enough excuses made from his inconsistency, enough is enough. Luiz is just done at this club.

I want to see the back of so many players. McGinn, Watkins, Luiz, Mings. I just don't want them playing for us anymore. Just get new blood in and move on players who will clearly never be good enough for the top 6.

The sheer inconsistency and bang averageness of those 4 players sums us up as a club right now.

What ! It’s a poor result and performance today but really . Mings being the exception all the others have been linked with clubs in the top six . People need to take a breath and calm down a little .
