Heaton could easily miss the first 8-10 games and be rusty on his return. Playing Nyland instead would cost us points. We saw last season just how valuable a single point can be. Romero for three seasons for £20m or thereabouts (fee and wages) to compete with Heaton to ensure we always have a top class keeper available is an absolute steal for me.

How much would you value Romero at if he had 3 years left on his contract then? 15-20mill?

Let's remember Aaron Ramsdale who's only just turned 22 went in the middle of his contract for £18mill and will probably be paid half of what Romero will be on.

Happy or not happy? Surely still need a winger and a CM?

How would we give game time to Wilson, Watkins, Wesley and Samatta?

If you'd have said to me at the start of the window we would be sensible with our transfers, and look for good deals and spend approx. £72mill on:

    Romero  (£8mill)

    Cash (£16mill)

    Watkins (£28mill)

    Wilson (£20mill)

I'd have said no f***ing way, our club would not be that stupid. Absolutely baffling.

But we absolutely need an experienced keeper for the first third of the season at the very least - subject to a full recovery from Heaton - we cannot afford the gaffs of our other stand ins. £8 mill to achieve this? I can't see the issue myself.

I find it crazy how they're trying to tell us we're looking for good deals, these things take time etc. and our answer is paying £8mill for a GK we could get for free in 9 months time and he could easily be irrelevant to us depending on Heaton's form returning from Injury. Now seems a perfect time to either get a loan to cover Heaton, or at least go for someone a bit younger so he can learn under Heaton. Martinez is the perfect candidate for me. May cost more but has potential and at least a bit of resale value. I bet you wouldn't another team in the Prem who would spend anywhere near £8mill on a 2nd choice GK with 9 months left on his contract Madness

  4. Looks like this may be true. Shocking signing tbh if the £8mill fee is true. Has 9 months left on his contract and has been a bit part player the last 5 years or so. Same age as Heaton (33) and for me no where near as good. The players it's looking like we're signing are very, very worrying. Considering we have been linked with Martinez, Edouard, Rashica, Aarons and we'll end up with Watkins, Cash, Romero. These may be bullshit rumours and we may sign better, but for me this is no better, if not worse, than the signings made by Suso last year.

I think Jota had a disappointing second season - not bad, but nowhere near as good as his first season in the prem. Aside from that they have Traore and Podence, who’s only been there 6 months and has looked quite promising. Presumably Rashica would be a squad player and play in rotation or be used as an impact sub, whereas at Villa he would probably start most games.

Jota was unbelievable for them last season, had his best season in a Wolves shirt, 16G 6A and he's only 23! Added to those listed is also Pedro Neto. Podence is the oldest at 24, can't see why they'd want to add Rashica on top of that, unless it was cover for Jimenez. Also the possibility of Traore leaving, but I can't see that happening any time soon.

Southampton, West Ham, and AC Milan all reportedly bid for him in January but he stayed to try and help Forest get promoted. The AC Milan interest is definitely true, as Cash himself as admitted it in an interview. Strange how people are happay for us to spend £25m plus on the likes of Benrahma, and Phillips last season, yet moan about Cash for much less, when he's just as good in position as those are in their positions.

To be honest I'm not that keen on Benrahma, convinced Douglas Luiz is better than Phillips and would much rather go for Edouard over Watkins. £15mill is also the equivalent for a fullback as £25mill is for a Winger, due to the nature of the position. Personally I think Guilbert backed up by Elmo is fine for another year, whilst we have Samatta and Davis up top and El Ghazi and Trez on the wings. It's easy to get excited about any signing, especially at the moment. It's also acceptable to be a bit more judgmental if you feel like its a signing/position isn't needed/not worth focusing on improving. We won't be signing 10+ players this season, so I can see people's logic.

God how childish these twitter ppl are, grown up men acting like teenagers.

To be fair to Jake, although he's the most annoying person on Villa twitter, he's only 18. He looks about 30 😂

Who knows... the figure of £20m was banded around but I think he would be more than that and I can see him getting a better move, the lads quality.

Agreed, maybe he'll go Wolves now Doherty has left. Would fit perfect in their wing back system. Hope it's not too long till we can start making signings like Aarons.

It's an interesting one.... I saw a lot of him in his early days at Forest when he was playing midfield and used to say to my mate who is a Forest fan that he would be a better RB, he never agreed. Obviously he ended up making the move there and it suits him, he has great energy and is very attacking as you'd expect from a former midfield. I'm not quite sure how that would work in a side set up like ours and I'm not sure about him defensively at PL level.

My lad was with Forest for a while so I used to see Cash at the training ground and he is a good guy, committed to the game if a little flash.

He wouldn't be my first pick for a RB this summer, that would be Aarons who is I think much better but he is a good player and I can see why we are interested.

I don't believe he was actively seeking a move and I'm not convinced Forest are eager to sell one of their best players, they don't need the money.

I wonder how much Aarons would have cost. And if we were actually in for him. At say 5mill more, would of been a no brainer.

Yes. This is a result of Elmo's contributions with his crosses, etc. He had a larger impact there, but attacking output is basically just a summation of xG and xA, which are both important, but don't tell the entire picture.

When you look to the radar chart to the right (the * looking thing), you see that Cash is a much better shooter, similar receiving the ball in the box, and a better dribbler. Also, we see that he's better in ground duels (one on ones against defenders) while in possession (which is expected considering his higher rating as a dribbler). On the far right in the shooting ratings, we see that Cash is a 77 on non-headers in open play. Elmo didn't even qualify for a rating. This is likely due to Cash taking 44 shots last season (10 on target) while Elmo only took 5 (1 on target).

In other words, Cash is better on the ball and a lot more aggressive with shots than Elmo.

Also, I should mention that 50 is average. So any number higher is above average, etc.

Think it's hard to make a comparison, when Cash has played 3 and half times more mins than Elmo did (3500mins compared to 1000mins) in a much lower standard of league. Oh well I had hoped we'd spend the 15mill on a position more needed but it would break our tradition of buying a RB every single year (Hutton, Elmo, Bree Guilbert, now Cash) 😂

Based on this it looks like Elmo would be the odd man out. Cash brings slightly more in attack than Elmo, and while Fred has shown to be a better defender so far, Cash is much better than Elmo there.

Probably not the best at reading these, but doesn't Elmo have the highest Attacking Output at 92?

If he ever sees this thread, he’s going to employ security 😂

Carryonvilla and SeanVilla are first in line for the restraining order.

Hahahaha I just can't stand the "He's on a plane to BHX" bollocks that you see on both here and twitter. Takes 2 mins to dispel the silly rumours.

but the video he posted seemed like he was waiting in the reception for her. With a love heart filter. To me, that suggests that’s the first time he seen her a while

He 100% wasn't on the plane with her. She posted a video on the private jet. He was waiting for her

After drifting from 1/3 to 4/6, we are now back out to 1/3 for Watkins.  Health warning attached.

Sky bet is driven by what people are betting on. Not by what is actually going on. It would be strange is Sky bet know more than the journalists. Probably due to that fake ITK on twitter saying we'd had a bid accepted last night.

Can't see it personally as I'm unsure of what would be holding up a deal if he's already agreed a move somewhere. Though, there could be hundreds of factors i'm not aware of.

My take on it all based on the clues, press talk etc. is that we've agreed a deal over a week ago but he's waiting for an offer from a better club. It's fair enough but there's got to come a point where we're like, "Mate, you're taking the piss a bit here" and move on.

  17. I'm not going to pretend I've watched this lad week in week out, but he looks like a similar player to Grealish. We have had many a debate that we got overrun with Grealish in the midfield. So I see no reason why  having Swift there is going to be any different. We are in a period of transition and trying to stabilise as a top half team, so why would it be smart to spend even a 10th of the budget on a squad player. We should absolutely be buying high quality players to replace the players in the starting line up currently, and moving the likes of Hourihane, Trez, Samagoal to the bench. It may be complete BS but I'll be very worried if true.

He seems quite content staying at Bremen by the looks of it. I'd be surprised if this deal ever happens.

Agreed, he wouldn't post that if he was on the move, clearly doesn't fancy moving to us. Massive shame 😥 Him and Edouard were my top targets I'd hope we would get. We'll settle for Watkins and Benrahma 😒

this guy is reliable on Reading news

Although I like him, I wouldn't be buying more championship quality players. Especially as he's more of a number 10 which we've been arguing about whether we could play Grealish there.

So sell our experienced fullback, and replace him with Rico Henry, leaving us with Taylor as back up?

Will we really have improved overall?

I don't disagree with signing Henry but to compete with Targett.

It's debatable but sell Targett for £25mill, buy Henry for £10mill and spend the extra £15mill somewhere else. Thing with Taylor is although he's awful, hasn't been that bad when he's come on this season. We don't have the luxury to have stud replacements at every position. I like Targett, although he's very very slow, is a solid left back for this league. Problem I have is he's a walking sick note. How many times this season did he come off with and injury? Remember when he was even sick on the pitch? 😂  If anyone is offering upwards of £20mill I'd accept.
