The catastrophe fpr some posters is incredible, I guess it's how they deal with things not going there way.

    We're currently in 4th place.

Spurs still have to play Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

I'd rather have the points on the board.

Some people have to be able to say “Look at me, I was right all along”.

  2. It isn’t unrealistic for Spurs to lose their games against Liverpool, Arsenal and Citeh.

It’s probably equally reasonable to say they will win against Forest, Sheff Utd and Burnley.

The Spurs games that are up in the air are Newcastle and Chelsea.

    OK.

I would make them favourites, but it wouldn't be "over".  I guess that's my point.

    It wouldn’t be “over”. No.

I think you really have to allow a degree of OTT posts in a match thread. You know what it’s like, it is never going to change. No matter how much you reply with a “Well, actually…” type post.

If (when) there’s garment rending in on topic afterwards, then yeah, it’s worthwhile trying to counter the outrage. During a game, it is pointless.

Shame he never be considered a Villa legend

Some probably do. The game at the sty is certainly fitting to be labelled as legendary. That doesn’t qualify a whole Villa career, but as a moment, it’s there. Hutton’s goal against them is probably legendary, doesn’t make him a legend.

I think people worry about such things way too much. The vast majority of “legends” statuses will fade in time. They nearly always do. New players come along and caveats are retroactively added to past players careers “Yeah, I suppose he was great back then…football was different, he couldn’t cut it in today’s game…”.

  5. Collymore v Spurs, timed about 1:20 here.

Hourihane v WBA (could pick a few of his, this is arguably the most important)

And as per the post above, Der Hammer really didn’t do tap ins did he?

  6. Both Rowling and Linehan, am I right in thinking that they both started all this kinda innocuously…for want of a better word (Rowling with liking a tweet and Lineham with that IT Crowd episode) and they both essentially just doubled, tripled, quadrupled down from there?

It comes across like they had a little bit of critical pushback in these early instances and then just went “Ah, **** it” and gone to town in their respective ways.

I did - Blackburn have more.  They beat Sunderland today.

Lovely Easter thanks mate - hope you did too :D

Prior to today, when determining whether a result was “expected”.

I think you knew that though…

They aren't on a more dismal run, though.  They're in better "form" over the last 10 games.  They've only lost a couple - but they draw loads (granted, they've had some bad results.  Think they lost to Blues and drew with Huddersfield); whereas Sunderland have lost a ton.  Blackburn have the leagues' top scorer too.

It would sort of be akin to Brentford going away to West Ham and winning.  If you were a betting man, you'd say it's more likely that West Ham would win but Brentford have Toney, neither side are in great shape and you wouldn't be surprised if they got a victory there.

Ok this IS my last point and I accept it’s getting incredibly nuanced and frankly ridiculous and tedious (which I accept I have played my part).

You chose 10 games. Add up the points for the previous 10 games for both clubs. Who has more - Sunderland or Blackburn? I make it Sunderland by a point. Therefore prior to today, Blackburn were in worse form over the period of time you chose.

I understand you are making the point that Sunderland are playing in form that is more beatable. Fine. But if you’re going to do that, I would not try and showcase that choosing X amount of games where they still managed to accrue more points than the opposition in question. Sunderland have lost more in that time, they’ve also won more.

Hope you had a nice Easter.

I don't know if you follow the Championship that much - Sunderland are woeful at the moment.  Their odds pre-match wouldn't have been great; the result wasn't some massive shock even if the scoreline was.  I don't know what else to say, really.

    I don’t really.

But I assume you would agree with my point that a team who are on an even more dismal run, like Blackburn, might not be expected to rock up and win.

Edit - I am also assuming you accept the point because you ignored it :)

As say, I’m done with the conversation but feel free to reply if you wish.

Not 5-1, no (as I said), but QPR were pretty unlucky there a couple of weeks back (another side battling the drop).  Don't think Sunderland had a single shot on target that game.  So, yes, 5-1 quite surprising but honestly Sunderland have gone to pot.

We could go back and forth on this and I’ve no great desire to do so, but when considering whether a result, regardless of the scoreline, is surprising, it’s probably worth bearing in mind the form of both sides.

Sunderland haven’t been good, although three of their recent defeats have been against Southampton, Leicester and Norwich whom are all pushing for promotion. Perhaps not completely unexpected that they’d lose those and as such it could be argued the relatively good opposition has played their part.

Blackburn’s form…well, prior to today it was 1 win in 18. So I’ll hold my hands up, I wouldn’t have thought they would win today against a side who had seemingly overcome their own bad run having picked up 4 points from their previous 2 games.

  11. I think a compromise would be something like photos of the person as a child wouldn’t be on display, but would be kept in a family photo album for the parents to reminisce privately.

How long ago was that?  They've got a tough run-in but also have the leagues top goal scorer.  Sunderland are in really poor form so, whilst 5-1 is surprising, a side winning there really isn't.

Sunderland won their previous game. Drew the one before that. Prior to those, yeah bad form. Nothing to suggest they were going to lose at home 5-1 to a team battling the drop though.

Maybe I didn’t read the suggestion here, but I know I’ve seen “looks at Blackburn’s run in…they’re in the shit” type comments.

    Plymouth look pretty **** tbh

    They do.

The point still stands. Blackburn were being spoken of as near certainties to drop because of their run in. I would assume that opinion may be modified after their result today.

  14. Echo a lot of the football comments. I don’t think I could name an entire first XI of any other club.

Am happy to watch a game in a pub with a few mates, really it’s just background entertainment. The pantomime of it all amuses me.

I can’t remember when I completely lost interest in actually playing football or any sport, but it was years ago, probably my early 20’s.
