  1. Most of the fault is on Carlos there.

Olsen takes his share of the blame, but it’s Carlos who’s decided to try that pass rather than just booting it away.

Norwich still need to not lose, though, and Blues need to win.

Norwich obviously won’t want to lose the game. Strictly speaking they can still lose and remain where they are, even with a Hull win over Plymouth. Which would obviously be ideal for sha.

But yeah, fair enough, Norwich should just have enough cause to turn up and try and get a reasonable result.

  3. Annoying that Hull drawing was the ideal result for them. Means that Hull still have half a chance of the play offs so will be up for it against Plymouth but Hull are unlikely to catch Norwich so they won’t (or shouldn’t) feel the pressure to get something purely because of Hull.

It’s going to come down to how much Norwich want to avoid Leeds in the semi finals (they lost to them twice this season, drew on both occasions with Southampton).

We've got one of our biggest games in recent history coming up in the week, our first European Semi-Final since 1982, I'm surprised it's being talked about so little

Maybe try the pre match thread for that game? This thread is for champions league qualification.

so liverpool have nothing to play for when they verse us. They can save their klopp celebrations for their final match at home.

Yep I think what they should do is use try and win their next home game at a canter, get them properly in the right mind set to send Klopp off with a win in their final, but also rest a load of players for the game in between those two home fixtures. Wouldn’t want any injuries for that final game.

I definitely haven’t checked who they have next and whether the above suggestion would help us or not. Honest.

  6. Recent home and away records.

    Huddersfield last 10 home games

    W4 D2 L4

    WLLDLWWDLW

The wins were against Millwall, Sunderland Sheffield Wednesday and Blackburn. Draws against Plymouth and Leeds. Defeats to Coventry, WBA, Hull and Boro.

    sha last 10 away games

    W1 D2 L7

    DLLLDLLLWL

The win was against Stoke. Draws to Rotherham and Hull. Defeats to Leicester, QPR, Millwall, Ipswich, Sheffield Wednesday, WBA and Leeds.

My take away is that Huddersfield are a lot better at home than sha are away. Huddersfield are relatively competent at getting something against a team around their position.

This is just for info. It unfortunately doesn’t factor in jamminess.

  7. Quote

Liz Truss’s book about her 49-day stint as prime minister sold 2,228 copies in the UK during its first week on sale, after a wall-to-wall promotional media blitz.

Ten Years to Save the West: Lessons from the Only Conservative in the Room, combines an account of Truss’s time in office with a call to arms for the political right.

Nielsen sales data puts Truss’s effort in 70th place on last week’s bestsellers’ list, outsold by titles such as the Ultimate Air Fryer Cookbook and More Confessions of a Forty-something F**k Up.

    Guardian

If you click into the article, about halfway down, the guardian have an amusing little line when comparing her book sales to that of Blair’s and Cameron’s :D

I assume you all haven’t watched Dear John. Or you are too cool for school.

I listen to a podcast which covers various sitcoms and Dear John was one that they did. They weren’t particularly complimentary. Didn’t hate it, just not enthused by it. From their perspective it comes across like it was John Sullivan finding something to do between series of Only Fools and then running out of enthusiasm for it.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Belinda Lang came out of it positively.

Successful US remake though, again, as far as I can tell.

  9. Oh all my groups are tame in their content (mostly). It’s just the name of that one that is a bit edgy and even then it’s done in a self referential in joke. If we had been called “a table of bellends” that would be the group name.

I have another chat which is called “Finland it is”. This is a general chat with the five plus a few others which really just covers birthdays and big news. The name used to be changed frequently, it was changed to the current one because we originally used to chat p(b)olotics in there and based on the policies and the aesthetics of the Finnish leader and her team it was felt Finland are doing well for themselves.

In 2022, after a few heated political discussions, a select group of us formed another group to discuss politics which I hilariously called “The 2022 Committee”.

I have a chat for Villa with my one Villa mate. Imaginatively called “Villa”. Any non Villa related discussion is done in a separate chat between me and him.

They’re the only groups I have.

It’s not “celt” that has been blanked out.

I didn’t name it, I’m not sure the apostrophe is in the correct place.

It’s named that because a former friend called me, our mutual friend (who was the former friend’s best man) and another very mild mannered, perfectly nice friend a “corner of words removed” completely unprovoked. This was one act of unpleasantness on an evening out along with several other acts of unpleasantness. And this night wasn’t the only night in which I or anyone else endured equivalent unpleasantness.

This WhatsApp group chat was initially set up to discuss whether us three (and two others) wanted to persist in hanging out with him. It now acts as the organising chat for social events between the “core” group of five. Though some of the group are still on amicable terms with the aggressive-when-he’s-drunk chap.

The cheating I am referring to in my message is me saying we probably need to eat next weekend when we meet up for a few drinks (“but eating is cheating Mark…”).

  11. Early Doors is definitely underrated, but those who like it, REALLY like it.

Marion & Geoff, I’ve said before I think is incredibly underrated.

And in the vein of one location set sitcoms, there was a sitcom called The Smoking Room. I remember enjoying that at the time, not sure how it holds up now.

In the Richard Briers stakes, I think Ever Decreasing Circles is much better than The Good Life. I would love to have just 10% of Peter Egan’s charm in that.

Motherland is a recent good one which I don’t think has been mentioned.

But now I’m just naming shows I like.

First couple seasons of Coupling were funny from what I remember.

Yep, I remember it dying quite the death when Richard Coyle (Jeff) left the show. It was clear he was the funniest character but until he left I didn’t realise just how much the show was reliant on him.

  13. Steptoe and Son needs to be acknowledged too just for the impact it had. It’s not exactly the first sitcom, but in terms of the stuff produced in Britain, it’s kinda a Year Zero sitcom.

  14. And no one has said The Thick Of It and I think that’s possibly one of the best, certainly of the past 20 or so years.

Edit - although Pete has referenced “the sweary Scotsman” up above I see so maybe it has kinda been covered.

  15. I always feel slightly weird about putting US sitcoms alongside those from the UK. I just like they’re a different animal and so comparison feels off, somehow.

Anyway, I know it’s dreadful now, but the 7 or 8 years when The Simpsons was wonderful needs acknowledging.

  16. I suppose a good a place as anywhere. Some will have seen this before no doubt.

Bearing in mind these guys talk about football all the time, them flailing about trying to come up with the correct answer makes me laugh however many times I watch it.

And for those who aren’t familiar, yes they are using a Gary Neville elongated groan as a sort of time’s running out klaxon.

I don't think it is valid. The plain English reading of their tweet is that Atwell acted corruptly because he supports a rival team. They have no evidence to support the strong implication that acted corruptly, and if he 'considers his options' they could yet be in legal bother.

It does read like that. I’m not saying Atwell cheated.

I’m saying it is a fair thing to not want him involved in the first place. It seems a reasonable request (whether Forest requested he not be involved in a reasonable manner before the game is anyone’s guess).

  18. X% perspiration, Y% inspiration.

Whether it’s the often quoted 90/10 split I don’t know. I do simply think Emery is both more dedicated to succeed and naturally more intelligent than 99% of other managers. The dedication enhances that intelligence.

Added to that, I think not having a successful playing career (comparatively speaking to his management career) will help fuel that dedication. Making up for it, I guess.
