  1. I've started a sky sports super 6 league if anyone is interested in joining, free to join and a bit of fun, you predict 6 scores that the sky soccer Saturday pundits choose and if your correct you can win £250k there is also the highest score available each week and that is £5k I believe. The league code is 66N1BN just go to www.skysports.com/super6

  2. He fails the medical, comes back to Villa kissing the badge.

This really takes every biscuit. All of them.

What is your evidence of him failing a medical?

It's my understanding that he never went to Manchester so unless I'm mistaken, a medical never took place!

  3. Almost a month gone from the 'sherwood reunion with townsend' rumours. I said then he's no good for us, and looks like I could be right, if sherwood wanted him so badly we'd have him by now!!!!!!!!

  4. I understand the defender cause we need those, but the attacking midfielder? Aren't we in for Gueye? I mean unless Sherwood really doesn't rate Grealish then I don't see why we need more than Gueye, Grealish, Gil and N'Zogbia in that role..

Gueye is a defensive midfielder who can on occasion go box to box, but primarily sits in front of the defence and play the ball forward. He's more like Delph than Grealish. And if Sherwood is looking at 3 at the back then Gueye and Sanchez would be amazing in front of a back 3 allowing Grealish or Sinclair to push on.
I agree...even if we go with a back 4 I'd still have Sanchez/Gueye in front of the defenders with Delph/Gealish/Sinclair in front of them
Missing the point as Delph won't be there come the start of the season.
And what makes you think that?

Do you honestly think Delph will be here next season???

  6. Amavi is one player that I would give my mortgage for, he is amazing, I've said before that this guy should be playing for top teams, he will be the next Ashley Cole....

Remember where you heard it first.

  8. Some say if he was to go then you have to question the ambition of the club. What is the clubs ambition???? Somebody answer it!!!

For me the ambition is to retain premiership status long term. We have flirted with relegation for 3-4 years and that is not good enough for a club of this size, but let's not kid ourselves forest, Leeds to name but 2 who are equally big clubs in history who have never been able to get back into the premier league. I k ow they have had financial issues and touch wood that never happens to us, but let's face facts, we are probably in the bottom 6 clubs in the league at the min and we are not gonna go from 17th to 6th over night, small baby steps. We are still up for sale and as of yet no confirmed buyer, we hear talk of exclusivity and due diligence but this is all talk at present. So we are still under the custodianship of Randy Lerner who and probably rightly so is not willing to invest vast amounts of cash if there is to be no return when he sells, so for all we know sherwood could of been told that in order to buy the calibre of player he wants he will have to sell arguably our best assets if that means selling them for 35-40 million then so be it, who are we kidding can we offer them European football in the next couple of seasons, NO! Can we offer them the chance to win trophies, arguably NO, our only realistic hope is the league cup. These are 2 players In their primes who want to win trophies who are both internationals, and all we can offer them is guaranteed football and for players of that quality that just isn't good enough. So if clubs want to activate their clauses and they want to go then I say good luck to them because no matter what happens we are still ASTON VILLA and hear the lion roar!!!!

  9. the way this is going to pan out is the scenario we dont want and cant afford.

i cant see anyone coming in for benteke this summer, or even in january, the only possibility in january is if one of the top 5 is struggling to break into the top 4 place and they need a final push, other than that, i cant see any movement.

as he (his agent) doesnt want to sign a new contract or be here, he will most likely run out his contract and leave on a free.

I would have no problem with Benteke seeing out his present contract because we would get another 2 years of goals from him. It would be a lot better a situation than losing him on transfer deadline day without being able to replace him.

We would get him for say £14m a year if 28m is all anyone is prepared to currently pay for him and it would save us around £30k a week over that 2 year period if he is not prepared to sign another contract. But I think if no club meets the £32.5m figure then he will sign another contract and take the extra cash to stay with us for another season or two.

Tim Sherwood knew exactly what he was doing when he revealed the buy out clause, it was a win win situation for him.

Expect him to stay and score a hatful of goals and he will be sold for around £15m next summer, forget the buyout clause cause next summer its sell him for ££ or he goes for free following year.

No, if he scores a hatful of goals we will get at least £32m next summer.

    No chance we will.

  11. Aston Villa are reportedly considering moves for Troy Deeney and Jeffrey Schlupp.

    View image | gettyimages.com

According to the Daily Mirror, Aston Villa are interested in signing Leicester speedster Jeffrey Schlupp and Watford striker Troy Deeney.

Villa boss Tim Sherwood kept the club in the top flight, but must now seek new arrivals - something he has already done by signing Micah Richards on a free transfer from Manchester City.

Now though, The Mirror believe they have two targets - including Watford goal machine Deeney, who has scored 66 goals in the last three seasons.

The 26-year-old - who hails from Birmingham - started his career with Villa before leaving at the age of 15. Now a prolific striker, Deeney is in demand this summer.

The Mirror report that Watford have snubbed an £11m bid from Swansea City, and that Newcastle are now expected to make a bid too - with Villa considering an offer themselves as they look to give Deeney a return to Villa Park.

However, the report suggests that Villa's focus is currently on signing Leicester City wide man Jeffrey Schlupp, who possesses blistering pace either as a left back or on the left hand side of midfield.

The Ghanaian international, 22, showed glimpses of his ability for Leicester last season, and Villa could choose to take a gamble on Schlupp's pace to inject some life into their attack.

    Focus on attack

If Villa do pursue Deeney and Schlupp this summer, it suggests manager Sherwood is focusing his attentions on improving his attacking options.

Deeney is a strong striker with predatory instincts in front of goal, whilst Schlupp has the blistering speed to strike fear into defences.

Both players could offer plenty to Villa, but would certainly not come cheap given their importance to Watford and Leicester respectively - meaning we could see just how heavily Sherwood will be backed in the transfer market this summer.

  12. To everyone who thinks that Townsend is the saviour! How much do you think he'll want to come to villa? 60-70-80 thousand a week??? Again another player who will command a large weekly wage. Get rid of nzogbia and his 50k a week and get about her liability who will want more. Sounds like great business......not!!!!

Since when does a player who starts less than 1/3rd of his clubs games become a good signing for us????? In my opinion given a full pre season I reckon Sinclair will be a far better player and somebody who won't need bedding into the side either

    Cool story

You criticise Townsend and say we shouldn't be buying players who play 1/3 of his current teams games then praise Sinclair who played less than 1/10 of games for his previous club?

Why would Townsend be a liability?

Firstly is like to point out that we are talking about the Tim sherwood era and he was given this squad of players, secondly Sinclair was on loan and didn't cost fck all to loan so worth a risk and we bought him albeit a small fee think was 2m and thirdly we didn't pay 10-15m of Sinclair so if he doesn't work out we ain't lost much, but if you'd prefer to waste that sort of money on Townsend then I suggest you submit your cv to Tom Fox cause personally I don't think Townsend is worth it, but ultimately we'll end up buying him you you will all be on here throughout the season moaning how shit he is, so I'll say it now "don't say I told you so"
  13. Roma Firm Up Interest In Aston Villa Striker

Benteke - Aston VillaAston Villa striker Christian Benteke is attracting the interest of Serie A runners-up Roma.

The Belgium international has been linked with a move away from Villa Park since the opening of the summer transfer window with the Giallorossi preparing a bid.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting Roma have identified the 24-year-old goal scorer as the perfect alternative should a move for Seville forward Carlos Bacca fail to materialise.

Benteke has showed his worth despite Villa’s continued battles against relegation since joining from Genk in the summer of 2012, with a total of 42 goals in 88 appearances. Villa are reluctant to see their star performer leave but the player is keen to play UEFA Champions League football next season.

La Maggica face competition for the towering forward’s signature, with Premier League Champions Chelsea and Liverpool both tracking the situation. Benteke has also scored seven goals during 24 appearances for Belgium.

  14. If he continues his Copa form we should sell him while we can make a decent profit. His game doesnt translate well to the PL.

Who, outside the PL itself, do you think would be be prepared to pay more than 6m euros for a 29 year old DM?
Why not give him a chance with a full pre season, you need to have faith in players instead of shunning them off, we all stuck by petrov when he first started and everyone said he wasn't good enough for the PL

I don't know if that's directed at me, but in fact I'm a supporter of his previous club not his current one! It's just that I was responding to the original point that it's virtually impossible to sell Sanchez for a profit.

FWIW, I don't think it has much to do with pre-season training, even though he wasn't close to being fit when he signed, I don't think Villa often used him in the right position. The guy should be stuck in front of the centre halves in a purely central DM role where he will be highly effective. If that's not the role wanted from a central midfielder he is going to be of a lot less use.

No it wasn't directed at you so please don't take offence, I appreciate your comments and I agree that he should be sat in front of the back 4, that's where I would play him. I'm a firm believer you play a player to his strengths and I reckon he will be a top PL if he is played in that position.
