So the same result minus the journeymen cloggers and unsustainable wage bill then?

Apart from the fact Smith has shown that without Grealish he can't manage a win either in the championship or the Premier League.

    The Villa way:

    1. Take a team languishing in the championship with an average age of around 30

    2. Add new filthy rich owners with ambition.

    3. Add a young manager with promise with a record of possession football

    4. Put a five year plan together to get into and establish yourself in the premier league

    5. Get promoted at first time of asking

    6. Get rid of old journeymen footballers on massive wages who can't play football.

    6. Inject a ton of money to replace all of the players we lost. Buy young unproven players which will hopefully do a job in the prem, but if not then will be good championship players.

    7. Fans get frustrated in the first six months of being back in the prem. that we are not challenging for the champions league.

    8. Due to fan pressure, sack manager and bring in a clogger like Sam Allerdyce

    9.  Spunk a bunch more money on old journeymen on massive wages who can't play football, but can head and break knees.

    10. Completely alter playing style to fit said cloggers

    11. Get relegated anyway

    12. Old journeymen get bored and dial it in.

    13. First season in championship we finish 13th. Average age of team is now >29. Football is derisive. Sack clogger of manager who is now considered a 'dinosaur'.

    14. Goto No. 1

This is why we will never be successful again.  Unless we completely ignore fan pressure.

Alternatively stick with Smith get relegated, Lose Grealish resulting in Smith losing his plans A to Z.

I'm amazed any villa fan chooses to defend Steve Bruce in order to criticize the manager of their club.

    Stunning.

Well i'm amazed someone can be blinded by their hate so much they can't see what is staring them in the face.

Must be be awesome being you walking around in a daze thinking everything is perfect with King Deano.  I'd suggest you stay like that because if the reality hits you it's going to hit you hard.

Again stunning post for a villa fan to make. Genuinely amazed.

what it's stunning for a Villa fan to point out what is actually happening?

I'm amazed of what must be going on in your head,  I'm genuinely interested how you think a manager who is having to cope with a huge injury list is still managing to pull get results against Chelsea and will get their team to finish above us is worse than a manager who is showing nothing but signs that he is hugely out of his depth.

Do you believe every Villa fan should just stick their head in the sand and ignore what's actually happening like you are?

This is a stunning post for a villa fan to make. Hilarious, you've managed to destroy any credibility with one post.

Just stating facts, it's not my fault some are so far invested in the Bruce is the worst manager ever and Deano is God mentality that their pride refuses to let them admit Bruce isn't that bad and Deano is no Premier League manager.

What's going on?! Have you been drinking?

Why you bringing up Smith? Why have you got a capital M on morally?

We beat Burnley 2 games ago, Newcastle lost to them. Villa beat Newcastle in December and we're rubbish.

Honestly... facebook.com, have a look. Right up your street.

Villa beat Newcastle and we're rubbish,  That is a very Birmingham City thing to say.  A Birmingham City fan wouldn't care about finishing below us as long as they beat us twice. Personally I look at the bigger picture and would prefer to finish higher in the league rather than winning 1 or 2 games.  But maybe that's why you act the way you are because you're hurt that Bruce is going to finish ahead of your beloved Deano.

  7. 11 minutes ago, Tomaszk said:

    You seem unstable.

Have you been on Facebook before? I think it would suit your mindset and intelligence. Plenty of Villa pages for you to go post about Smith and Bruce on.

Does it hurt to see Bruce getting results against teams Deano never will?  But don't worry Bruce didn't deserve them. so Morally he's lost and you win.

You're becoming like a jilted lover who's realised their ex has moved on to better things.

    Evening Alex.

Everyone should sit in their box like Newcastle it would be great.

Straight to the calling me Alex... come on at least come back at me without giving up and admitting defeat carry on like this and this game will start getting boring. Keep being defeated as quick as you are and i'll start believing you are just like your hero Deano

Hard working yes, plus they have two players with actual pace that makes them a threat on the counter.

Organised? Not for me. Sitting 11 men in your own box and refusing to participate isn't organising yourselves well. According to xG they're bottom with 14 points fewer than they actually have. It's unsustainable muck. Not that Ashley or Bruce care.

Like I said...I've yet to see them and think they deserved a single point. No doubt they'll pump us comfortably and end that run which will be a treat for us all.

I never used to care about Newcastle but now Bruce is there it's making them winning so much fun because reading the bullshit that is spouted by the Bruce haters here is hilarious.

Blah blah blah didn't deserve it blah blah blah they haven't earned a single point... Guess what they have earned them because they have won games. Football is a simple game win 3 points draw 1 point lose 0 points. Doesn't matter how entertaining the football is the only thing that matters is the result.

Be no other reason to have a go at Dean Smith in your father sorry Steve Bruce thread when he has his own thread which you never post this in. Especially when its been mentioned multiple times by others

So just because I'm not blinded by the hate of Bruce means I'm his son, 2 words pal Grow Up.

Look I understand it must be hard to take seeing Bruce managing to get results against teams we can only dream about getting. The realisation that he will be finishing above your beloved Deano must be very hard to take and it's forcing you to be very childish.  I'd strongly recommend you see professional help because it's not healthy for a grown man to act the way you do.

All about context, but you know this already.

Say what you like everyone can see it.

Go on about context hahaha how about this for context Bruce neglected our defence last season gets constant abuse for it, Smith does the same with our attack this season gets nothing. But keep denying it and using words like context.

  12. I wonder what the response would be on here had Bruce picked a team without any strikers..... I think we all know what the response would be don't we and it would not be the response Smith is getting.

Oh and on that note Bruce got dogs abuse for neglecting our defence last season, so come on where is the same abuse to Smtih for doing the same with our attack?

Of course it's got nothing to do with being blinded by your hate for Bruce..

What is the claim then? Sometimes players get injured, and its probably Steve Bruce's fault? 🙂

Pretty much, I'm convinced there are some Bruce haters out there that blame Bruce for Wesley, McGinn and Heatons injuries

  14. Imo we have been caught cold with Wesley's injury.

What it looks like to me is had Wesley not got injured we weren't going to go after a striker. Because it seems that despite it being obvious to everyone that he isn't a lone striker they still believe he is so was going to leave it. So they had done no preparation regarding a striker which is why we are nearly at the end of the window and no closer to getting a striker.

Our player recruitment seem to be useless because it's looking like amateur hour at the moment.

    Thanks for that!

That's 14 points from 14 starts for Targett, and 7 points from 8 starts for Taylor.

So **** all difference, especially if you count the Palace game as a draw. Ah well, good to test your assumptions 😂

(I do still think Targett is the better option because he offers so much more in attack, and Taylor's fixture list has been a touch easier. Mings was injured for several of the games Targett started, and you could argue the Burnley game is a W on Targett's ledger, since we were winning when he left the pitch. Really want to see Targett at LWB.)

Yeah play a player in defence that is great going forward but it completely incompetent when it comes to defending. @LakotaDakota points out we were only 1:0 down vs Wolves with Targett on, that was a total fluke because had Wolves had been better with their shots they'd have had a hat full by the time Targett went off.  It wasn't until Taylor came on that we showed even a hint of resistance to Adama Traore.

He needs to drum into the players that they are playing for the supporters and we expect as a bare minimum 110% effort, that clearly wasn't the case today and if they can't comprehend that requirement then they need to be moved on asap.

That's the thing that i'm annoyed with today, Man City are a top team and can do what they've done today to anyone on their day but it's the lack off fight and effort today that i find unforgivable

But, my point was out of the two left backs we have, imo, Taylor is more dependable.

You're forgetting the modern football fan who wants lovely attacking football and looks at a full backs attack qualities only. Then when said full back turns out is incapable of defending (like Targett) they will moan about his defending.

Then Taylor who's a better defender than attacker (which I prefer in a full back imo as let's face it it's part of the defence) comes along will get stick because he can't attack.

You have to look at the defence he as playing behind some of those games, which doesn’t excuse all the soft shots & howlers as such but is a mitigating factor for me. let’s see how he does with Mings Engels etc before casting ultimate judgement on his ability? . I Wouldn’t underestimate the Cutler effect either.

He may be shit but he also come good... I’m reserving judgement and for now and I’m just happy Heaton’s (unfortunate) injury has happened at the beginning rather than the end of the window giving us time...

    if butter fingers resurfaces 😬🤞🏻

Having an inability to save shots on target has nothing to do with the defence in front of you, you can have the best defence in the world but the keeper will still have shots on target to save.

I have no concerns regarding his distribution as it's possibly the best i've seen from a Villa keeper, But he's a goalkeeper not a Midfielder.

  19. 2 hours ago, thabucks said:

He made quite a few (forgotten) world class saves  last season... shame he will forever be remembered for the Forest game which was woeful admittedly....

Lets also not forget Sheffield United away where like the Forest game every shot on target he faced went in, including a free kick half way in our half on the touchline which he parried into his own net.

can't believe my eyes in this thread where people are claiming he's improved based on 2 games where Vs Wolves he face 3 shots on target 2 were scored (i'll let him off their 2nd as that wasn't bad keeping the 1st i'm 50:50 about as vs Spurs Heaton had a similar shot against him and he was further over the other side on the goal and still saved it) and vs Burnley where they had loads of shots but only 1 on target and that was probably at Heaton (i'm discounting the Liverpool game as that was literally men vs boys)

Also to answer this myth that has developed on here that he was improving before he got injured, what rubbish his last game was vs Preston where granted he pulled off a fantastic save but whereas other keepers would have gained confidence from that but not Nyland he spent the rest of the game trying to throw it into his own net.

I hope Cutler has improved him (lets face it it's impossible for him to get worse)  but i have seen nothing to convince me 100% he has so it's just a case of keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best.

    Standard response.

I am not sure I understand the thinking on the contract, maybe he was well under paid for the league we are in and they thought it was having an adverse effect of him and the team.....just speculating.

I would love to know what John Terry's take is on all this form collapse?

The way I see it is 1 of 2 possible scenarios:

    1. More compo if we were to sack him (kind of a thanks for getting us promoted bonus kind of thing)

    Or

    2. Players have been acting up and this was the owners trying to get them to tow the line by showing them that they back him so they'll have to wind their necks in.

I’ll have to watch it back to comment. We had 43% and 4 attempts to their 5. Although non on target.  So whilst maybe not park the bus it does sound like a poor performance.

I was at the game, in the 1st Half we 100% parked the bus in the 2nd half we did try to attack more but the problem was that Sheffield United had upped their game and forced us back which got them then goal our attack was pretty much ineffective until Luiz came on only them did it seem to have a pattern to it.

It was a poor performance there is no way it can be described any other way.  The thing is holding back in the 1st half increasing the attacking in the 2nd is a good tactic to use it'd help us burning out in the last 10 minutes of games it's something O'Neil used to do to great effect.
