  1. Baggies officially sold to chinese group this morning so in the space of a month or two 3 clubs within 20 miles have all been bought by chinese owners & tony now has some competition that wasn't there before.

We're going to end up with one combined "West Midlands Village" team in a giant super-city aren't we.....

I find it difficult to believe that any club, even ours, would leave it until the player was having a medical with another club before making their move.

So if we actually did have an interest, you would have to think it was before he went to NUFC for his medical, and therefor that he preferred them, for whatever reason.

Could just be that the newcastle thing happened a bit quicker than expected too. could have been interested and spoken to his agent about his interest but Newcastle put in a bid, was accepted and the player sees that as the more likely to do something this year option so just went straight there, He might not even need to move house etc depending on where he was living

    I hate all that "He's 30" bollocks. It's 2016 FFS.

If a player has been a decent professional, looked after himself, and stayed away from the booze, fags and laughing gas then there's no reason why they can't maintain a decent level for a fair  while longer.

Even if we do happen to only get two/three more seasons out of him, you'd hope in that timeframe that he'd have scored the goals to get us back in the PL.

If that happens then £12M for a 30 year old will still have been a bargain.

Exactly, Do you think Sunderland fans care that Jermain Defoe is 33?

If we are going to stand any chance of promotion we are almost certainly going to need one player to bang in 20 goals plus and clearly McCormack is more than capable of that. He will need service though so if we can bring someone in who can provide that we could be well be onto a winner. As others have also stated a player with some movement, and a bit of a natural instinct, and clever link  up play could well lead to some of our existing players suddenly laying on chances and looking forward instead of the constant sideways and backwards passing due to a lack of movement up top.

I honestly wouldn't mind Ikechi Anya, He is used to the league having played 100 games for watford, Very quick, can beat players and crosses well. Stats for goals/assists aren't great but he makes a difference in games

  5. The sad thing is i think there was the potential of a very good player there a few years back but being a part of our clueless, constantly changing disaster ridden defence over the past 4/5 years has destroyed him.

Imagine if he had been paired with mellberg for a couple of years rather than just whoever happened to be fit out of vlaar, a well past it and calamity prone dunne/baker etc etc

One win in the first five games. Gabby to be parachuted back into the team but doesn't do anything. Defence leaky and gives away silly goals. Xia to be fined by the FA for saying something silly on Twitter. RDM catchphrase to be 'Will take a long time to rebuild'. Sacked by end of March with us 6 points above relegation zone.

That is pretty much where i am at.

Lots of people saying we will get 9/10 points from the first 5 games, I just can't see how given that little has changed (other than the opposition of course)

Sure the teams we play will be of a poorer standard but like it or not we are a target/big club in this league who many of the teams will not have played before (or at least recently) so will be likely to raise their game trying to get some glory.

Nobody in the premier league needed to raise their game against us over the past few seasons as we were just another bottom 6 team that everyone expected to get something from.

To put things into some sort of perspective in Our last 3 seasons combined we have won 23 league games out of 114.

All of the promoted teams from this division last year won more games than that.

how has this post got a single like? wtf. yeh the multi-billion industry in predicting results are the insane ones. and the biased idiot holloway is the realistic one in predicting league table finishes. good one.

i hope you enjoy all the money youre going to make because youll be basically printing money if the betting line is as wrong as you think it is.

The same bookies everyone seems to have so much faith in have newcastle to win the entire league at lower odds than us winning on sunday...

Does anybody know anything about Sheffield Wednesday's team? Why is this a "tough opener" other than them being a "big club" and us being terminally crap?

Do they have any decent players who will cause us problems?

This is a journey to the unknown...we are playing teams that I would suggest most of us couldn't even name one of their players.

    Feels odd.

They probably should have gone up last year after smashing brighton in the play-off semis but blew it in the final.

They only lost 2 games at home all season

They scored 66 goals (4th highest in the league)

Hooper & Forestieri scored more goals between them than our entire team managed last season. They have added Steven Fletcher & Alman Abdi (Played with Forestieri at watford) to that attack since then.

Changing our style of play just to suit Gestede would be foolish. It might help him to get a few more goals, but it would be detrimental to the overall good of the team.

our style of play is pass the ball sideways/backwards a few times before giving it away....

  10. I suppose the one concern about leaving it late is the scheduling. We are no longer in the prem where teams usually only play 2-3 games in august so by the time the transfer window closes at the end of august we will have played 5 league games already and 11% of the season will be gone.

What are people's thought on the two games On the 16th Are we going to see RDM at Telford or walshes meadow? Or both? At which one will we see more first team players?

Would also like some info on this asap, Planning on going to the Telford game but may switch if RDM & more of the "first team" are at Worcester

It does feel like a strange new era though, the big clubs have always spent heavily of course, but Crystal fecking Palace making bids of £30m just feels wrong (unless you're a Palace fan of course). As this deal puts every PL club in a postion that allows them to compete financially with all but a handful of European clubs, its probably going to become even more surreal when players are turning down moves to the likes of Inter Milan and A Madrid, in favour of Watford or Middlesbrough.

Said this earlier, The premier league is going to be a very different place if we are out of it for more than one season. This week alone Palace have bid 31.5mil for batshuayi, they missed out so bid 30 mil + for Benteke, In the meantime while they were waiting round for answers they have paid 13 mil for Andros Townsend & 10 Mil for James Tomkins, Oh & they have also bought Steve Mandanda the marseille ligue 1 goalkeeper of the year & french international just for good measure.

They are also supposedly in for Roberto Pererya from Juve..

This is Crystal Palace, They won 11 games last year & finished on 42 points, 3 places above relegation. So bad that even we managed to beat them.

100 mil+ for simply staying in the league makes spending 50-70 mil on players and another 20 or so on their wages seem like nothing
