I think that if we signed Wanyama and Pereiro we would massively improve our chances of staying up. Pereiro is still young at 24 and has a great scoring record for an attacking midfielder. He could play wide right of the front three and Jack could go back in the middle behind the striker. Get Wanyama in midfield to give us some protection and we'll be sorted.

Edit: didn't realise Wanyama has no legs these days. Swiftly onto the next player who knows how to win tackles please 😁

Has to be something in the Pereiro links given he was pictured outside Villa Park a week or so ago. Much cheaper option than Bowen or Benrahma.

This is an absolute disgrace. A flukey last min win over watford via a deflection and all the transfer news has gone quiet!  like everything is rosey.....well its NOT!

We still need 3 more strikers. Only  calibre of Beneteke, Sturridge and Piatek.

People getting excited about semmater? like who?  How can anyone say this guy deserves to wear the sacred Villa shirt in the premier league, more than scott hogan and Jimmy Kodjia? you really think he can move to birmingham and hit the ground running? dreamworld!....

This is wesley MK2 crap touch, bad decisions, breathing out of his ring after 15, one solid tackle and he's rolling around screaming....  for the next 3 months whilst he "gets up to speed"  the belgium boys are laughing all the way to the bank having offloaded junk to us time and time again. I refuse to even acknowledge him unless he proves himself by scoring a hatrick on his debut. minimum.

I just can't understand the appeal of shopping in belgium, I bet deano gives it the big one about his no brand chinese phone that no ones heard of either!  "check out the goophone lads"

he must be taking a big brown envelope stuffed with francs from behind the radiator in the gents of the chorley services to keep scouting there, then moan about a process that has been in football since year dot. It's called completing a transfer.

Nice to know we can rely on your in depth knowledge and intuition on this dreary damp day.

the dither brothers deano and jesus really have got soup in the laundry bag this time.

by keeping their powder dry and waiting till nearer the end of the window to sign a striker in hope of the price goes down will now certainly leave then searching through the waifs and strays

especially now manchester united need  strikers as well as spurs. due to rashfords injury.

we had a  golden opportuinity to get a coup such a piatek in before any of the big guns came sniffing, however as usual failure to get deals over the line has cost us.

It's just like when Gregory let Junhinio and Keane slip through the net. Forever in excrement creek!

Your assuming the likes of Piatek would have signed for a side fighting to avoid relegation...….unlikely even if it is the mighty Villa

A word removed hair away from being done with him to be honest. The football is shite, tactics increasingly clueless, he and his team are not motivating this lot either. Not the man for the future.

I think you have hit the main point there, team doesn't even look interested. Motivation or lack of a big factor

The deal is round: Ally Samatta goes to Aston Villa. KRC Genk and the English Premier League reached an agreement last night, Villa would put some 10.5 million euros on the table.

Ally Samatta has been dreaming of moving to the Premier League for some time. The 27-year-old Tanzanian was linked to an English club almost every mercato. So this time it's hit. The Genk striker is currently …

Tbh I think next season if they Improve as we would hope, I think this would be a mid table team.

                            Heaton

              Konsa - Engels - Mings

    Guilbert - Nakamba - Luiz - Targett

                      Grealish - NEW

                               NEW

The two new players would need to be genuinely good players though, not potentially good, they would need to be very good players straight from the start.

Of course would need more players to Improve the bench and challenge the first team.

The only debate for me is would we also need an additional CM to replace Luiz or nakamba If they don't cut it.

Yup, I would go the same with hopefully a new dominant CB in for Engels and a tough bastard in DM to show Nakamba and Luiz how its done

What I would like to ask is, if Terry is the defensive coach, together with having Smith and O'Kelly who also played defence, how can we so bad defensively? We are atrocious! We gifted goals today for the umpteenth time this season.

Is it time to bring in some new backroom staff maybe?

I agree with you, our inexperienced back line should not be encouraged to play out in our predicament, get tight, be stong and put you foot through it. Aaarggh the old ways are the best

I dunno, if we lose 2 out of the next 3 league games and the cup game, I think they might pull the trigger.

The saving grace is, we are still only 3 points off 14th and if we could get 2 or 3 positive results from the next 3 games things will be looking ok again (BIG if I know)

I’m still of the opinion that if we could get the right players in over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be fine.

Difficulty is attracting good enough players when your in the bottom 3 and just got stuffed 6-1 at home. As I see it either owners really spend and maybe change the Manager or stick with Dean, accept likely relegation and continue club rebuild with more parachute money and inevitable funds from star player sales. mmmh! I say star players perhaps I should just say Jack. Also hope Nyland keeps his spot, not one goal today down to him

Drops Guilbert after a great display the other day, Elmo comes in, garbage, terrible for the second goal.

Brings Drinkwater straight in who has absolutely no match sharpness and plays pathetically.

Drinkwater, Luiz and Hourihane starting, absolutely weak as piss combination, leaves a defensive specialist in Nakamba on the bench.

    'Clueless' springs to mind.

    have to agree 100%

I don't think they will just drop Nyland, but we needed a keeper, if Nyland gets injured we're screwed. The fact it's an experienced and exceptional keeper is a big bonus for us. If he trains better than Nyland then it's competition for places and we win whoever is the better of the two being pushed to play better.

Benteke a loan is the only way he should be coming back and even then it shouldn't be as our only striker. We should be looking at an attacker who can play either wide or up top and a number 9.

Drinkwater, Reina and those two would be a great January for us.

Read somewhere Reina only agreed to sign if 1st choice but I agree Nyland should keep the jersey

Whilst true, that's the reason he's here. Because McGinn isn't.

I think Dean is thinking Drinkwater will sit in with Nakamba and free Dougie to get further forward until McGinn gets back

  12. Said all along a back 3 suited our available players, makes us stronger defensively whilst keeping our attacking threat real. Dependant on opposition and with Targett back for Taylor we could also go 3-5-2 possibly having AEG up front with Wesley (if fit). I wonder if the players pushed for this given Jacks post match comments.

My main concern is the effort and fight, defending as a team etc, or lack of all those things.

It's like people turning on Nakamba, when he first came in to the 11 people were praising him, and I think he works hard, ibalso think one of the main issues is he was working hard and few others were which was leaving him isolated, even the best players can look poor when isolated (not saying he's the best player, just that he was isolated).

Most of our players just look like they are hiding and not helping defend as a team, I honestly don't think the "defence" itself isnt a problem (not the main problem), I honestly think its partly that we play an open(ish) style which is prone to leaving them exposed, ESPECIALLY when 50% of the team isn't defending from the front, tracking back or pressing properly, or just hiding and not offering out balls.

I can forgive a lack of talent, but I cant forgive a lack of effort or fight, and I think a fair few of our players are hiding.

What shocks me more is that it has been allowed to happen, maybe deano is a little soft?, but with someone like JT and Mings in the dressing room, I'm surprised they haven't been beasting anyone who doesn't work hard?

I said it in another thread, when watching liverpool v wolves is it was insightful how hard both teams worked right from the strikers back, players on both sides offering themselves for the ball, tracking back and working hard, its embarrassing when you compare that work rate to ours, that's not skill, thats just pure effort and work rate.

Is it that deano has lost the players and they aren't working for him?, i don't know, but what I do know is the lack of effort and work rate is criminal, no excuse for it.

Cant put it any better than that.

You are forgetting.... i suggested on here  both James Maddison & Callum Wilson when both was in League 1 for Coventry on here ;)

I knew both could step up and i feel same about Toney. He is best player in League 1 by some distance.

Must of been asked before, but wtf are you not working for Villa?

  15. for me:

                                        Heaton

                 Konza              Mings        Hause

    Guilbert           Mcginn     Luiz             Targett

                            Grealish        Hourihane

                                        Wesley

subs:  Nyland, Engels, Nakamba, El Ghazi, Kodjia, Trez, Lansbury

I think this team would transistion better back to front, McGinn deeper along Luiz = more aggression. Jack, connor and Wes playing in triangles. Width from full backs who are covered better by quickish CB's all with height for headed clearances. Simply this manager lark innit
