Gerrard appointment aside, he has been extremely good in his role over these past 5 years.

Took some doing after years and years of clown shows prior to Purslow but we’re no longer run like an absolute joke so deserves huge praise.

100% this. I guess we will see Chris Heck running non football matters and new SD all footballing matters

    Welcome!

I only have one request, that nobody writes Colombia with “u” (Columbia), does my head in! 😅

Colombia is a country, columbia is a film studio

  4. We can all see there are serious issues with our squad mainly that they lack enough ability, application and desire. Fortunately our new Manager will see this also and will correct it. We need to continue to be patient as the set up for the next decade looks like it will take two or three seasons to get the foundations right.

    In Unai we trust!

ps excellent management last night not to put Kaden Young on and endure that shit show.

He would NEVER have signed that contract if he didn't know. I'm certain of it.

Also Marca saying that we spoke to Emery as early as August...

That last line renews the faith in the believe the owners know what they are doing and DO really care for our club.

    I hope it's Emery, that way I win £60

Me too, the reported meeting with Purslow, very quiet from us, Lyric saying he couldn't take job until Nov and his pedigree being very high but maybe not Poch Klopp level all made sense to me. Good punt at 6/1. Kerching!! hopefully. His tactical abilities will suit our squad now as well.

Emery - the step just below the elite, massively experienced in good leagues, has managed in the Prem to a good standard, has achieved success with teams below the elite standard. Plays a style that we can probably emulate reasonably well with the squad as is, though with additions in January needed. He would need persuading though - he turned down Newcastle because he wasn't sold on their project - but he had the conversation.

Poch - out of work, successfully managed in the Prem, is coming off a slightly disappointing short tenure at PSG, seems to have been overlooked for a few big jobs in recent times. As with Emery, probably could work with what we have with a couple of additions. But he is on the CL hype train - he took Spurs to the final and went to France's biggest club to try to win it for them. He's going to be a hard conversation to persuade to come here, as he may be prepared to sit and wait to get a CL club. We'd be relying on him bring won over by big money and wanting back into management in England now. Unlikely.

Tuchel - ain't happening. He's only just been sacked, he's a CL winner, he'll sit and wait for a CL role. He's also renowned for falling out with people, which we probably don't want right now. Dead in the water, won't even be on the list.

Amorim - gamblers choice. He's had a meteoric rise and success, but he's young and only worked in Portugal, realistically with 1 job. By all accounts he's got enormous potential, and apparently does very simple tactics in a very disciplined way that mostly fit our squad. But he apparently has a huge release clause. Could be amazing, could be a disaster, we'd be putting a lot of faith in him taking his first job overseas in a potential relegation battle.

Rodgers - been there and done that in the Prem, to varying degrees. But struggling at the moment and struggled last year as well. He's a couple of games from the sack at Leicester and looks burnt out. Needs a few months out IMO. On a personal level I can't stand him either, so colours my view.

Dyche - he's a solid Premier League manager. But a very particular type. He stayed at Burnley for 10 years, and I'm not sure that's all loyalty. Nobody looked at him and felt they'd take a shot on him. A club with our stature and alleged ambitions should not be gambling on Dyche. It also indicates the wrong things about where we're going. If we hire Dyche, something has gone wrong.

    Benitez - no.

Frank - decent manager. Brentford play effective football and punch above their weight. But the issue with Brentford is they're a machine, the manager isn't running the whole thing and as such it's hard to judge him. If our aim is to emulate that system, might be decent. If we don't... Shrug.

Favre - my choice when we sacked Smith, an old hand with a record of developing players and tactically clever. But he's just gone to Nice. Ain't happening.

Gallardo - know nothing about him. He's apparently River Plate's most successful manager ever, which is nothing to sniff at, but like Amorim you're gambling on his first overseas job being a relegation knife fight. On the plus side he should do well with so many South Americans about the place. Oh and the Lamborghini jokes would drive you mad.

On the basis of all that, it's Emery for me. No easy job to win him round, but I'd have greater faith getting him on side than Poch. There's a project to be sold here, a good one. And we're supposedly ready to sweeten things with a big wage - we were paying the clown formerly known as Stevie G £5m to do nothing.

Have to agree with the analysis. I also see emery as the best, safest, gettable coach and have put money on it but I could get behind Amorim for the potential of getting a top elite manager at an early age. Must be the gambler in me.

Dyche has rejected an offer from Bournemouth..

Which is odd because it is a potentially good opportunity for him..

I think that he is holding out for this job.

I also think that we are interested, mainly because of what West Ham have achieved with a pragmatic manager..

Dyche with a budget would make us extremely difficult at Villa park.

I would also say that Burnley had an extremely low budget and brought players of a specific identity.

In your fifth sentence did you omit " to watch" in error?

There is no way we would pay anything like 30 mill euro to get Amiron released from his contract. If he shows a desire to join us then with just 18 months left on his contract we'll negotiate a much more palatable release clause sum. I'd be amazed if we paid anymore than £15 mill to get him.

Apparently Sporting want Ronaldo but Amorim doesn't so it might be possible to do a deal that suits everyone

The Yellow Submarine are actually a lot of fun to watch, too, even when they've lost. We have some players, like Bailey, that I feel would be able to find direction and home in an Emery set-up. He might even be able to get Coutinho clicking again. Kamara would be a natural fit. Not sure about McGinn.

No McGinn you say.......Emery is the man for me

He inherited a good team & has slowly made it worse. His style of football is a slow  & possession based which is brutal to watch & he builds vendettas against certain players & refuses to play them. He does not promote youth & is an egotistical prick. But other than that, he's ok.

    Just like Stevie G then

  13. Whilst my first choice has been and still is Unai Emery, the prospect of Amorim is attractive but very scary! so inexperienced going into the PL with our squad.

The prudent way forward may be to hire Dyche who I think is very capable of uniting our squad, coaching them properly and would ensure PL survival this season, He would get us to 12th -8th next season and when a better option is available and keen to take us into European competition make the "elite manager " move then.

Sounds like Sawiris is handling this appointment himself now.  Emery could well be the main target with some of the rumors last week of him meeting with Sawiris alone in Spain.  I would love him here...  Very very underrated manager and for some reason isn't seen as "elite" in England, even though he has this CV:

    • Won 4 Europa League titles  (Sevilla 2014, 2015, & 2016, Villareal 2021) and lost another Europa League Final (Arsenal 2019)
    • Won the French League once and both French cups twice with PSG, where he was poached by Arsenal
    • 70 Million pound net spend at Arsenal and managed a 70 point total (which Arteta is yet to match with more money and only 1 game/week) with 2 points off 3rd
    • Took Arsenal to their first European final in 15 years
    • Is only 50 and in the prime of his coaching career

    My choice too

Poch was passed over for United and Chelsea jobs. He’s not getting City, Liverpool or Arsenal jobs. And Unless Conte leaves Spurs he’s not going back there. His stint at PSG might show he can’t handle big names, so Real, Barca and Bayern will pass.

Newcastle aside, we’re the next club that can pay him a big salary. If he wants to come back to PL, it’s us or nobody.

You make a strong case but my money went on Emery last week. Would be delighted with Poch but also vry happy if its Emery.
